I've thought about that for a gift for the BF... but worry that it could be taken the wrong way. He DOES like gadgets and this is probably the only one he doesn't have... I dunno. He is trying to lose weight - we talk about nutrition a lot, purposefully cook super healthy together, and have signed up for a half marathon in April  - but this seems like it could be viewed as me pushing the envelope.

I intentionally don't talk a lot about his weight, except to tell him when he is visibly smaller for encouragement. He's lost 15-20 pounds and wants to lose another 20+.

I have NO other gift ideas for him and I've been racking my brain for at least a month. I hate gift giving!

you're welcome.

I also bought a new to me Harley and I sold my triathlon bike and I am working on a deal for a new to me Specalized S-Works Tribike if my friend comes through.

It has been a whirlwind year but I wouldn't trade it for anything. My divorce is complete as well.

only thing sad about this year is that I lost my dog in Feb and I still suffer from sadness every month when I think of her.

oh and we already had damn SNOW on the ground.

LOL I am not sure that's my style!

What are you getting Mr MEH? Or you guys don't do gifts? I can't recall.

I have even been trying to listen HARD to what stuff he says he likes when flipping through the Sunday ads, or in general conversation. The problem is, he's the type of person where if he likes something he will go out and buy it for himself that day.

And I usually like giving tickets to a concert or event, but with his crazy travel schedule there is no way I would know if he was free...

HALP.

we actually do gifts at christmas and i hate it.  i am trying to talk him out of it yet again.  gifts stress me out and we both buy stuff when we want it.  luckily he's been dropping hints hard and i know what to buy him if he doesn't agree to no gifts.  i make stuff for our house a lot.  a map of the places we've been, photo collages, stuff that i find on pinterest.  how about something like that?

but seriously i stand by my boudoir pic suggestion.

I totally SUCK at giving gifts, but I've known what I want to get Tony for a few months now, so this year will actually be pretty easy this one time.  It usually stresses me out too, especially with family gifts and I never know if what I got was complete crap or not.

It's tough when if the person you're giving the gift to will just go out and get whatever they might fancy.  The only other thing if you really like giving concert/event tickets it to go the GC route?  Maybe make a homemade GC and say it's valid for the event of his choice when you'll both be free to go?

Though the boudoir pic idea is also pretty awesome.

As a dude, I think the boudoir pictures are a horrible idea to give while you are dating someone. It's not like you can get them back if you were to ever break up, wait till you marry this guy and and then do those pics for him if you want.

I lean this way a little... I like the idea of having a boudoir session in white lace pretty things, garter, etc. - and give to your husband the morning of your wedding. Thanks Pinterest!

i'm just saying marriage is not necessarily a forever thing for most people.  you are trying to make it sound like it's completely dangerous to give it to her boyfriend, but safe for a husband.  i don't really think that's right.

IMO I would rather give those type of pictures to someone that made a committment to me rather than someone i was just dating. Yes any type of EX (BF/GF/Husband/wife) could do anything with those pictures; however I think there is more of a committment involved when someone has a longterm committment.

I CAN'T look at the pics - it just makes me want to adopt them all, and then I get all sad that I can't adopt any, and then I get even more sad that they're even up for adoption in the first place, and then I start looking for bigger apartments so that we can have pets.  It's a vicious cycle.

Have a non-dog-friendly dog has cured my desire to adopt for the time being. I guess he's good for something While he's still around, I won't even look.

I have one...  I like it.  I like it more at certain times than others.

A couple thoughts.  FIRST, I'm on my third.  I lost two already.  I had the kind you wear on your belt or in your pocket.  One just disappeared, one I accidentally left on my car, drove off, then it fell, never to be found.  The last is almost two years old since I am very careful with it.

Just like anything, it's how much YOU put into it, is what's important.  Honestly, it's just a glorified pedometer.  That's it.  It also can track vertical movement, and counts them as "steps".

At the end of the day, it will count steps, stairs, and calories burned.  It tracks your sleep (which is sort of a guess).  If you toss and turn a lot, it counts that as "awake" and can estimate your sleep efficiency.

But YOU have to input food/calories.  YOU have to put in weight.  You have to put in workouts other than walking/running.  But once you do all of that, it's a great way to track calories in/out for the day INCLUDING calories you burn just moving around during the day.

If you don't put the work into it, all you get is how many steps you took and how many calories you burned.  Not very useful.

SO, the software is actually more important than the device.  They also have fun goals and benchmarks and little things to remind you and keep you motivated.

I would get the bracelet one in the future to avoid loss.

In summary, it's a cool gift if someone REALLY is ready to make some changes and put in the data to track.  If not?  It's fun/cute data, but that's about it.

They don't run or bike per se but both play a good amount of basketball and a fair amount of walking in their day to day lives. I'm kind thinking too that the more they can track on what they're doing the more they might get into it and take to a higher level of fitness.

The wife got me my first one about 4 years ago after hearing about it on Oprah (favorite things show).  That's when I was heavy into tri and she was frantically trying to find something to get me.  I personally didn't find it insulting.  I was into fitness and it was a fun gadget.  It took me a little time to warm up to it.  I had tracking abilities on BT which are actually pretty good.  The only thing it DID add was it tracked activity during the day outside of my workouts instead of just depending on a assumed metabolic rate.

Sort of a repeat from above.  SOME people might find it a burden to input all their food data and other things to get the best output/results, so you may burden them with a "chore".  But I like logging and tracking, so ended up liking it.  I think I got a little OCD about it at times though.  If I forgot to hit the button before going to sleep or forgot it at home for a day, it would bother me to have gaps.

For about 11 months now, I have had it on out of habit and since I don't work out, tend to fall short of all my daily goals and weight and don't log calories.  So it's a bit of a depressing reminder of my lethargy.

PS4 is out today!

As I arrived to work, there were about 50 people lined up waiting for us to open. I also checked the cameras at other stores and saw that there were lines at all stores waiting for this release.

Anybody getting a PS4???

I can't decide.  Since you can't play PS3 games on it anyway, I may switch to the Xbox.  But PS4 is cheaper.

My current plan is to wait till NEXT fall when there are more titles and maybe it's a bit cheaper, then get the PS4.

There is not the huge step up like there was from the PS2 to PS3, so I'm going to live with my PS3 for a while and I won't feel like I'm really behind.
