Today was "that day" in the pool.  Cruising easy 100s at 1:16 - likely back to reality tomorrow.

I could do1:16 100

If it was just once.

If I went all out.

If it was yards instead of meters

If I got a 3 second head start

If I dedicated myself to swimming for the next 5 months.

LOL.

Yeah, everyone else in the world uses the imperial system...

Oh, and I'm with you on matching the 1:16 - don't even give me 5 months, I still can't do it.

My goal is to go sub-1:20 (in a scm pool) off the wall....I've been sitting at 1:20 for a while but haven't been able to break that barrier.  I can't even fathom doing 1:16 easily!  Nice work!

Well, as penance for having such a good swim I had to do my bike workout on the trainer due to rain. 5 x 4 mins @ 280w with the humidity at 96%

1:20/100?  Does a downriver swim count?  <ouch>  Nice swim.

James and Fred - great racing!  Jason, what, you can't fake a HIM to get in the lottery?    Salty - impressive, as ever.  Jeremy, my Better Half makes all our insurance payments on time (sometimes I think she makes them early, just in case)!  I'm very excited for you - that is a such a GREAT feeling!

In other news, I got a roll down slot to Sweden!  Not a big deal to most, but I'm psyched for a "reason" to drag the family there next year.  Triple Oly is gonna put a hurt on me, though.  Gotta get back at it in earnest!

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Matt

Another good day in the pool for me.  Today's main set was 5 x 300 descend 1 - 5 with the first 100 fast.  I was hitting 1:09 for the opening 100s and then descended from 3:59 down to 3:48.

I've clearly found something in my stroke, I just wish I knew exactly what it was!

Also, if anyone could chime in here I would appreciate it.

Guessing this came up from the IMMT race thread? Anything else to know that may help out?

Probably normal.

So you guys work or your kick in swimming much?

I feel that after races, pool or tri, and any time I've used the wetsuit, race or not.

I am actually working on the kick. Actually have been from quite awhile back. It was an issue before, but now it's more more to be a complete swimmer. That part should also be remembered for my doing more stroke or IM sessions. The other strokes are more kick dependent and I've had a growing interest in them and the pool. More accurate to say that I swim, bike and run according to my interest level at the time, and sometimes do triathlon.

Fred, you mentioned your goal was one gel every 20 mins on the run, that sounds high to me and more than Shane has ever recommended to me.  Is that something you've just come up with from past experience and how much did you actually take in?

Well, based on my two swims this week, I seem to be better after a race!    A sprint vs a HIM is a bit different though - not much in the way of residual fatigue in my body that would throw things off.

I was working on my kick over the winter and I was seeing noticeable improvements while I was at it.  It's been a while since I focused on it though and it's back to it's current sad state of affairs.
