I like the idea of a swim challenge too.  I need the extra motivation to get to the pool, especially now that it's starting to be cooler in the mornings.  My nice warm bed is just so hard to get out of!

How about a tiered swim challenge?  Divide up into teams again...

Race the following distances over 2-3 weeks:

100yd

400yd

825yd

1650yd

Average all times within the group and then do points for each distance- Fastest group = 1pt, slowest = 4pts - lowest total points wins...

I haven't been in one of these yet.  Can I get in?  Please, please, someone pick me, pick me!!!  please, please!!

Of course!   Look like most people here are scared of The Deuce though so we might be picking new teams.

dalessit - 2009-10-05 11:26 AM Only thing is Suzy you go from being the hunter to the hunted.  When I was on my road bike it was always sweet to pass folks riding a nice Tri-Bike.

Now I have people that want to pass me, because of my tri-bike.

Nah....as someone who is usually BOP out of the water, the free world is long gone!

Tracy--the Zipps are NOT part of the deal.  I have a hard enough staying aero in a cross wind.  I've been told I can get a set of race wheels, but not nearly that aggressive.  Paco is my expert on all things bike!  He will actually buy the frame set and then we can pick all the other goodies individually.  I think he is as excited to build it as I am to ride it.  A true bike geek if there ever was one.

I would be up for a second challenge, but can we have a good long time to get it done? I have a couple of running races  coming up and would like to use one of those.....we are all sticking together for next round right?

Did everyone notice that ever since Kim and I told Trevor to "MAN-UP" and sign up for Galveston he kind of disappeared? what do you think that means?

You girls scared me thats why!! I wish that was why. Just silly busy at work right now, and spend most of yesterday hobbling around. Man did my quads burn. Had a tough time going up and down the stairs.
Virtual challenge right now? I'm planning on taking it easy for a month....so don't want to committ to alot.
Then start training up for next year.

Ok, did anyone notice that Trevor blessed us with his presence, gave us his sob story about sore legs, but didn't commit to anything? Boo Hoo... I am beginning to think he is wearing a skirt!Laughing

Count me out for  the swim challenge....it is the one area where all technique all the time is the name of the game for me through December. If we were doing straight total yards, I could see sinking you guys, but speed ain't where it is at for me, now or probably ever Tongue out.

I was thinking more December like for a challenge.  I am just so focused on running right now.  I figured that Dec we should all be getting ready for Lonestar or in off season mode.

Remember everyone these are just for fun, if you are slow, who cares.  Some of us are faster at somethings and some are slower.

Who cares? - Says the man with winning tag line still in his signature

December will be fine - How about anytime between the first and the last of the month?

Yeah, but when all you do is focus on my limiter it isn't very motivating. While I am over being neurotic about swimming I have my pride!  I'll pound out the yards you all be MP in the pool.

Anyone else doing weight training?  I started doing bits and pieces of p90x--love Ab Ripper X, but am not sure exactly what muscles I should consider strengthening for triathlon.  I am already a bit of a beast so I don't want to build up anymore than I have to for the sport.  Thoughts?

I should be doing it, hope with this new plan and coach in december I can figure out how to work it in.  I had it in previous plans but it was always the first thing to go.

I think anything that works the core would be great.  You use it in all 3 disciplines.

I'm all for the P90X stuff.  Suzy, you know, I've been quazi-doing it for a few weeks now.  The real advantage to the P90X system is that for every workout you have the option to go heavy (low reps w. big weights) or build strength/endurance (higher reps less weight or no weight).

I like the Chest/Back workout and the Legs/Back or Arms which ever it is.  But I'm really digging the Plyo, Kenpo, yoga and stretch.  Those last 4 are great anywhere.  And at 1 hour most of us can find time to squeeze it in as an exchange for another workout.  It's the 'off season' now, or it will be soon, so changing things up like this is critical to next years improvements!

Lastly, I am also adding some Kettlebell workouts into my strength routine.  It's a great alternative to conventional weight lifting and you utilize more muscle groups in each workout.

If anyone is interested in P90X, a buddy of mine is the poster child for them - literally.  He is in one of their infomercials.  I could see if he would be interested in joining the group next time.  I got him into tri's this year.  He did the Rev3 HIM in June.  I'm sure Jeremy could give some pretty good insight too.

Steve, sorry if I came accross being mad at Doug.  By all means I think he is fabulous for offering to run and I love him for it.  It is my pride and ego being crushed if he has to "bail me out" that's all.   I mean, in the world of triathlons what says I Love You more than offering to run your first marathon with 5 weeks training right after a 112 mile bike ride?!  Men are not the enemy - it is my WOMAN POWER PRIDE!!

I have a suggestion for the virtual challenge.  How about we do a time difference challenge.  We repeat the distances we raced in the first one but determine the difference in times (hopefully improvements) and the team with the greatest improvements, wins.  Help me out with ideas of how to incorporate first time racers - I am drawing a blank but want to involve everyone?

Suzy,  I do lots of core work and upper body.  I have pretty large thighs already so I work more on flexibility for my lower body but love the Roman Chair and dumbbell work for shoulders,  back, triceps and biceps.  Still working on completing the six pack.  If you are worried about too much bulking up then I would focus on core and lat work -that will help with the swimming.

Replace them with the MGer's that departed.

Calculate score by % increase of each individual per discipline per team.  Team with the highest % increase wins.  Therefore number of people per team is taken out of the equation.

edit. my .02...  i like your idea tracy but i also really like the swim challenge.  and it looks like we have enough people to do something.  either way...

I like it.  Can we do the swim challenge in November and the virtual tri in December?

BTW John, where in the world do you get your QUOTE video links?  What is the story behind the latest one?  You can still see air bubbles on the plants.  How is the water not filled with silt?  I love it.  Looks cold though.

I'm definintely up for a virtual and the swim and maybe a separte run and bike too. It will give me a good winter goal. And keep me even more motivated, I am going to put my name in for the KONA draw. If I was ever to get picked I think I might pass out.  That would mean an HIM and a IM in the same year. I certainly don't know how I would train but I would do it somehow. OK back to work Some of us have real jobs.

Works for we.  What does everyone else think?

A buddy from grad school sent the video.  It was filmed in Green Lake, Upper Styria, Austria, in Northern Austria.  This meadow dries up every fall and then floods in the spring.  Funny thing is videographer wrote that the night before this was shot it rained so the there is lots of pollen in the water.  Clarity could have been much better...amazing!  Water temp was 5-6 degrees C.
