![]() gdale - 2010-09-10 10:49 AM badgerintx - 2010-09-09 9:51 PM I was struggling with keeping up with all the racers this weekend so my operations background (or my OCD?) took over and I thought others might want the executive summary for the weekend: (if I missed you...speak up!) With that list, you would think we are in the middle of the season! Awesome to see some many of you going this weekend. Good luck to all! Looking forward to a lot of RRs next week! x2 - a crazy busy racing weekend for the MG! Racers, don't forget to check in and let the rest of us know how it went. And have fun! |

Off to swim and bike before picking up my daughter from pre-school then off to Gymnastics then pick up my son from school. Its funny, my wife stays home with the kids all day, every day and manages to feed and dress them, teach them a few things and keep the house orderly. When I have the kids for the day, I feel like I deserve a medal of honor if they get some food and the house doesn't burn down. I think I'd go nuts, drunk or both if I had to work that hard every day MWUAH!!!! (that's me grabbing you and giving you a big ole' fat kiss!) I love hearing dads say that sort of stuff. We stay-at-home-moms often feel so underappreciated. So tell your wives that, OK?? And yeah, just keeping kids fed and the house standing is sometimes the best anyone can do. We muddle along. How's our Ironman-to-be today??? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Dropped off my bike today...hanging by the top frame with at least 4 inches off of my front wheel. Guess what I noticed today? My seat has be set a little further than I normally would have. I must have been riding around like that for a long while because I didn't notice it until today. I know people have said not to change anything on race day. Should I change it or not???? If I don't hear from anyone tonight, I will only nudge it just a little bit (usually I have the seat a bit WAY forward due to being short), but I figured if I do it half way, it still should be decent. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good morning MG'ers!!!! For those racing day, BE TOUGH, BE STRONG and report back asap on your successes. Raining here today, but supposed to clear in time for the Badger game and bike drop off! Weather tomorrow is looking beyond stellar, sunny with calm winds and temps in the 70s. Yesterday was a crazy windy day...two IM swimmers were rescued by the fire dept.. Many who went in to practice had that "OH SH$T" look. The way the course is set up you are basically swimming in almost a stadium atmosphere on one side and there is a cement wall that allows waves to bounce into it and back out at you. I am fortunate that i have gotten to practice what that washing machine feels like, but with white caps yesterday, not so easy for the new folks (not ez for anyone really). I told them wait a day and it looks like my 8 ball supports me! Enjoy the weekend! |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() What would today be without a blunder?? I'm at the expo, drop off my bags and then my bike and am buying a water at the vending machine. It doesn't drop and the machine jams so kic it, nothing and I leave. I walk around the farmer's market waiting for Steve and then head over to Walgreens to get a water. Go to get my wallet out and its GONE! I think someone stole it out of my tri backpack, but go tearing back to the EXPO at record pace thinking Paul is going to kill me. I whizz into the information booth and the lady smiles and me and hands me my wallet. Someone turned it in after finding it at the vending machines. It was totally intact. What are the odds??? Anyway home for the duration until tomorrow at 4:30am. Finishing mixing fuel, going to try for a nap and then just chill. Over and out! |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I am back home from White Lake. I had a great time even if my numbers were not what I hoped for. It is a beautiful place for a race and SetUp Events did an awesome job! I have never seen that many cones on a course. So how did it go you might wonder? Well, I could have used some of Suzy's organizational skills. Good news: no shoe issues! As soon as I started to wheel my bike into transition at 6AM I noticed that I forgot to switch to my racing wheels. No big deal except that I set up my bike kit for tubulars! So I bought a tube and re-packed (adapt and overcome!) I will save most of the details for my RR. The biggest issue was a cramp in my left calf about 80% of the way through the swim. Probably because I forgot to take my salt tablet and Thermolytes before the race. D'oh! I only stopped for 20 seconds but te cramp was at the surface for a long time. I felt it on the bike. I DID manage to slow down on the bike. I think I averaged 19-19.5 mph. As a result the run was good in the beginning! It deteriorated after about 1.2-1.5 miles and I instituted a walk/run strategy. I was 20 minutes slower than at the Washington Olympic. Oh well. It was more about trying some new pacing to adapt for Augusta! The racers were great as were the locals and the police! I will do this race again! I think I need to make a list of "What to do" before the race and NOT just what to bring. I hope others had a great day. I thought of a lot of you during the race, especially Suzy because for some reason I had IMOO on the brain. Doug Edited by DougRob 2010-09-11 3:41 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Too late for advice now - I changed my seat! It turned out that one of the bolts weren't tightened enough, probably slipping little by little at a time during training. I'm glad I did though, I felt WAY more comfortable today than the last few weeks. It always seem like I was "slipping" to the front, and I didn't think twice of it. I just dismissed it as a little weak abs. I will take it to the bike shop and see if I can get it refitted. Short version: (at least my short version) Swim - Major confusion of what to do when I started to do my mass start wave, then was called back. I am deaf, so I had NO idea what the heck was going on. Finally after what seems to be a bunch of groans, they stuck by the waves plan. Good swim, feels a little longish. Swim the entire time, unlike last time...so I'm not sure why it took me a minute longer to finish a 800m swim than IronGirl, hence why I think the course is a bit on the long side. *grumbles* I think they combined the swim with the "run" up to transition, which I don't think is fair at all. Irongirl had the mat RIGHT on the beach, and that's the start of T1. So, even though I may have done GOOD for the 800 m swim, but 1/4 mi walking/running to Transition really swallowed a lot of my time. Although, the OVERALL time will still be the same for everyone, but still. Makes my pace look poor and slow. :-*( Bike - Top speed: 39.7mph (Soooo close! But fastest speed ever) - massive hills (some small areas are 6-8 maybe 12% grade). Could have done just a little better on the ascents, but then again, everyone was doing the hills, and I passed by a few people. I was kind of hoping to avg 15mph, but with these massive hills, I think it's good enough. ![]() Run - Did better than my last tri, but only by a few minutes. Again, big hills, very rocky terrain. Paced myself better this time around. Stupidly forgot recovery drink, but legs and body are great shape, unlike last time. It feels like just another training day. Stomach - not so much. I feel SO queasy and sick, even at 1:30pm. Maybe that meant I pushed it hard? :-) (I think it's from swallowing a couple gulps of lake water). Secret goal today was to do 2:15, and I did it in 2:12. While I feel like I could have gone a bit faster, but I'm happy. While I was faster in this race than IronGirl - By FAR IronGirl was way more organized. I am actually SO surprised that no bikes or anything has been stolen - there was NO one there manning the transition area when I was leaving and the Olympics were still on the course. When I was doing the run course, grumbling on how slow I am and feels forever to do a 3.11 mi course, and grumbling on why the hell did I sign up for a half-mary - then I thought of Suzy preparing for an Ironman...and she's doing a frickin' marathon AFTER a 112 mi bike right. Doug--if you paced the way you wanted to because of an upcoming race, I would consider it a success!!! We'll see how well they work in T1 and T2. Never changed 100% before. So where's Dineen with an update on those 8 minute miles? I'm going to bed in less than 90 minutes and sort of need to know if I have to try to blast through the last 5K or not!! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey, all! First 10k done......and I'm happy! 48:34, 7:49 pace. Only 30-40 people raced, the oly and the sprint are the big deal, and this was the first time they added a run race. I was 3d among all the women, 7th among all. My version is that I'm first for 45-49 women. Woohoo! Jeff rocked the oly, including a 29 minute swim in the ocean! Beat me by 40 seconds in his run part, too...after that little swim and bike. Nah, I'm not competitive! Zach races tomorrow, should be fun! Off for some recovery wine!! Sending good thoughts to Moo........and can't wait to read everyone's rr!! |
