Veteran 163 California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread bheemeryck - 2010-04-24 3:36 PM We made a reservation at the Cedar Park Motel & RV Park a few months ago. ...... If anyone has experience with travelling and could let me know what they think I'd feel much better... have enough to worry about in terms of training, I don't want to worry about our accomodations too!! I stayed in the motel part of the Cedar in 2007. A friend camped, and folks were in the RV part. Here's what I can say: The hotel ain't luxury. Think small rooms with wood panelling and green shag carpet. But it was completely adequate. The RV area seemed as good as any for what I know about RV lots. It was pull through, tho you have to watch for branches. The swimming pool was small and unheated, but that made it refreshing. The people there were super friendly. The management and the local residents were all really nice. The bike goes right past the front door 4x (each direction, 2 loops), and the run goes past the side and back 4x. All roads at the Cedar are closed (if family wants to drive on race day, they need to park about a block away the night before). The best part: Since the race is going on and they have nothing else to do, the management and local all set up chairs, drink beers, and cheer all day long. And since they know you from staying there, they cheer extra loud when you go by. Built in drunken loud fans... I loved it. |

Regular 56 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread April was a pretty good month considering I had to build in some taper and recovery time for the two half-marathons. I was happy with both outcomes considering how challenging they were. It was a brutal month on the bike with all of the wind. There were days in which I couldn't decide which was the lesser of the two evils, the wind or the bike trainer... It made for some slow training which in some ways was probably good. Swim: 35,700 Yards (11.38 hours) (long swim = 3,250 yards) Bike: 503.2 Miles (29.08 hours) (long ride = 100.3 miles) Run: 102.5 Miles (13.57 hours) (long run = 20 miles) I imagine most of you are going long this weekend. Have fun and be safe! I have a 112 mile ride planned in the morning with an 8 mile run following. The unfortunate part is the forecast. Wind predicted in the 20-25MPH range with 30% chance of rain and a high of 52. Where is Spring??? Jodavis21, your numbers are insane! Great work.... |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Wow! I am going to have to combine March and April to look any good in this crowd 8). It has been snowing all week here. Hopefully we can get through the weekend without any more of that. We may hit mid 50's with that good ole 20-25 mph wind to make it feel oh so much colder on the bike. Edited by Baowolf 2010-04-30 6:22 PM |

Got in a 108-mile ride on the course last weekend, and planning on another century tomorrow. Long run so far is 15 miles, done 2-3 times. Long swim was 4100 yards last weekend. And today I got in my first OWS in water about 57-ish degrees (brrrr). |

Extreme Veteran 483 San Diego | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Ok, so not the greatest numbers: Swim: 2 hours. Bike: 8 hours. Run: 15 hours, 207 miles. Hoping to make up for it with a monster May. Got my first century in today, so added almost 6 hours in the saddle (woo!), but definitely need to get going on the swim. Good news is that I think I'm pretty much recovered from the marathon. Got in 8 miles last night at a pretty good clip and felt no pain. Got a little sprint du tomorrow that I'm just training through. Will probably go for a 10-mile run or OWS in the afternoon. Good job everyone! I feel like I have my work cut out for me to catch up! |

Alrighty well that's all I got. Hopefully it is enough of a base to build on crazy fast in May. I am able to walk, bike and swim.... on the calf, so we see how it goes. In 3 more weeks I can start run/walk to try to get the mary functional to at least make time cutoffs. I am more confident that I can finish before they turn off the clock now. |

Wow, I knew you were fast, but sub 4:30 per mile is crazy fast (207 miles in 15 hours)! Do you have rocket launchers attached to your shoes? I don't think we got a race report on Boston. How did it go? Also, did you stay near the finish line? I am trying to get my plans ready to go for next year. Any specific recomendations? |

I am trying to get my plans ready to go for next year. Any specific recomendations? trilund - good catch. One of my 8 milers was entered as 87. I guess I'll have to settle for 128 miles for the month. That makes a bit more sense. I posted a Boston race report on the general forum. I finally figured out that the personal reports can be publicly posted to the forum, so I didn't want to jack this thread talking about it. If you're interested, you can check out my report here. And yeah...I did stay near the start again this year. There are at least 4 hotels in Milford (about 10 minutes from Hopkinton). I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott and a friend was across the street at the Comfort Inn. I would just check to be sure that wherever you stay has a shuttle to the start (ours did, Comfort didn't and I know the Holiday Inn Express did). The only challenge is getting back after the race. Last year, we took the train and then a cab. This year, I had family staying in Boston, so they met us at the finish and took us back to our hotel. Some people like staying in the city so they can experience the buzz of the weekend. I'm a bit more into minimizing the activity around a race, so I try to stay away from all of the hubbub. Felt a bit sluggish at the Du today, but I guess that should be expected after a 100+ mile ride the day before. Hope everyone had a great training weekend! |

I did skip a 40 miler on the bike to get a slight taper for Bloomsday (12k in Spokane) AKA the largest timed road race in the world. Was anyone else out there for Bloomsday? I hate to be that guy but I'm so pumped about my time I can't help but tell everyone I know. I ran a 42:40 and felt great at the finish.

No problem being that guy, but it just opens you up to having people say, "if you felt great at the finish you weren't pushing hard enough" haha! |
