OK, some people sound like they are a bit worried about things for this IM.

I will add a few things (never done this course, but have done 3 IMs and about 10 HIMs):
1. Everyone feels beat up right now. From here until just before the race we have to fight off negative thoughts. Injuries, tiredness etc.
2. If you are training properly according to your plan you will be fine.
3. For the first timers it can be especially scary, but I will repeat, this is ALL NORMAL STUFF at this stage
4. I feel run down and slow. I've had a few really bad training days and am questioning my own goals. WE ALL GO THROUGH THIS.

Stay the course, stay strong and remember it's all going to be worth it for a fantastic day!!

I feel exhausted and emotional right now. My legs are stiff and I can neither eat or sleep enough. (EDITED TO ADD: I'm eating like a maniac and sleeping like Rip Van Winkle, though I always want more food. More sleep. My stomach growls and my eyelids droop...)

All normal.

Think of the race as the celebration of all of your hard work all summer long. Go out there, have fun and enjoy the day! Eat on the bike. Eat. Eat. Laughing

Can anyone tell me if on race day the miles are marked on the run course? Are there clocks on the run course? Thanks.

OK, so if anyone is riding Saturday from downtown let me know.  If not, I'll go meet the VQ bunch at Firemen's, ride two loops and then carefully pick my way downtown and back.  The course is supposed to be marked.  If someone who knows the course decides to ride Saturday morning early from downtown, I'd love to tag along.

You will see the clock at "inspirational mile" which I believe is about mile 8 and 21. Also you will see it at the midway point and of course as you hear Mike Reilly yelling your name. I believe there mY be other areas also but I can't remember where.

Hope everyone is feeling better and getting through these last few tough weeks!  I am feeling alright, but I just moved to a new position in the company, so I have been working a lot to get up to speed on my new job in addition to training.  I am a little worried about getting less than 6 hours of sleep per night.  I am usually good on 7 hrs., but 5.5 is not really cutting it.  I already blew off one run this week just to sleep a little more.  Bad timing for the new job but just gotta get through the next few weeks

This is probably a bad thing to say but honestly is there any other first timers that truly feel that they are NOT ready at all and have this feeling that its a bit too late to even get ready?

I am in enough shape and athletic enough that I will take care of this thing (knock on wood that is) to finish but I am nowhere near where I should be.

Are you following your plan?  If so, trust your plan.  It will be fine.  Everyone doing their first IM feels this way.  The training is way harder than the race IMHO.

If you have not followed your plan, just adjust your paces accordingly and go in with the idea that forward progress is good and you might surprise your self.  : )  And, you have a whole month left of training so keep at it!

I'm a 1st timer and feeling this way.  I am following the plan I chose (for the most part), but I can't help compare myself to others and feel that I am not doing enough.  It helps to hear people say "trust the plan".  I am doing the intermediate program, so I know that I am doing enough to at least finish.

I was a first timer last year and while it was a little nerve racking not knowing if I was going to be ready, in many ways it was a beautiful thing.  The expectation was to finish and have the time of my life doing it.  I really do think you should trust the training you are doing, enjoy how much stronger you are than a few months ago and look forward to the race with anticipation. Visualize success in each step and strategize how you will handle the bumps that will for sure come your way. I did those things and  I was that stupid girl who had a smile on her face from beginning to end.   There will never be a first time again.  Enjoy it!

I need a like button! This is what I am going for!

Hello fellow sufferers.

First timer at age 59.  (I was 400 pounds 6 years ago, so it's taken me a little time to get in shape.)

- Yes, I am having doubts even though I am at 16 to 20 hours of workouts a week. Part of it is the unknown.  Part is the constant tinge of fatigue in everything I do. Part is this incessant heat.    We can do it!

- Question:  I've been up twice to ride the course from Firemen's Park.  Coming again Saturday with Vision Quest.  Anyone else riding Saturday?  I need to do the stick in person and on something other than my Computrainer.   We meet at FP in Verona at 8 a.m.  The stick is supposed to be marked but I would like to ride with someone or a group the first time to catch the turns for sure.  Anyone riding from the center that morning?  Want company?  309-275-7120. Or post it here.  There are two of us. Thanks!

We can do it! It's just one hell of a long day of working out. :D

TriWi is leaving at 7 from the center(I think) to do the full course. I will be there! looking at getting a short run in after also.

Finally!!! The weather in Chicago cracked. Early in the week is was so hot/humid I could barely run for an hour. I think I lost 5lbs during that run.

Last night, a cool breeze off the lake and high 70's / low 80's and the air wasn't think like pea soup. Flipped the script and went for a long run in case we go back to a heat wave!

Yesterday I had a big fall on the bike.  Broke my collar bone, scapula and two ribs.  No IMWI for me.  25 weeks of training for nothing, and 8 weeks of inactivity in my future so I can sit around, put on weight and get out of shape.  Plus, I'm past the date for a partial refund.  Sorry to complain, just have to vent.

I'll be thinking about you guys on Sept. 11.  Enjoy the day, and know that when it gets tough out there, it could be worse - you could be home on the couch wishing you were there!

Turns out the Wisconsin tri folks are very happy to oblige.  Apparently Vision Quest was in touch with them to coordinate support.  Maybe VQ was getting other requests for help.  Anyway, many thanks for your help.  I'm going to be able to ride the 112 as it is supposed to be ridden now.  Big deal to me.  I've just been riding the loops up to now because that's what groups were doing.  I've seen the stick on my Computrainer which is great but the real-life experience can't be beat.

Man I really feel for you, just yesterday some idiot came flying out of his driveway in reverse and came about and inch from ending my year. Its the closest I have ever been to being hit and all I could think about was missing the race, then I started thinking, it could have been even worse. So I know you must be crushed and it sounds like pretty banged up, but you are alive and that is a big thing. Have a speedy recovery.

Oh I am so sorry to read this. Yowzers from the sounds of it you must be in some serious pain. I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to get injured like this so close it IM.  You will come back stronger and more determined. I hope you get better soon.

every WTC ironman will have each mile marked. There is a clock at the finish, but I'm unaware of any clocks otherwise, someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

If I recall correctly, there is a clock in Verona.
