Is it helpful to track your workouts in so many places?  Maybe you should change your screen name to "Data"!

My Garmin goes to Strava and Training Peaks. Then from TP I upload it to BT.

I do the same.  It really doesn't take long.  And soon MapMyFitness will be automatic as well.

You know, I would expect Garmin and BT to be automatic at some point.... Does anyone know if there are rumors (I almost spelled that rumours, which would mean that I'm spending too much time reading English soccer (er, football) (parenthetical inside a parenthetical > bonus points!) sites) about this?

Like this?

This is a random question that popped into my head on last weekend's ride...and kind of fits into all the tracking/training talk (most of which I still need to read this afternoon ). Is there anything that includes a weather component? Yes, I realize manual notes work just fine, but was curious if there was one that will track along during training session. Like a Strava/WeatherBug type of pairing. Does Garmin include weather aspect?

Garmin includes weather.  It will either get it from the device or from your nearest weather station, depending on what the device supports.

The weather station one gives you one data point (average? start? finish? dunno)

The device version gives you average, min and max.

This is visible in Garmin Connect.

Whenever I upload data to Garmin Connect, it says there's no weather data available.  Maybe I don't have it set right?

I don't have Garmin, but something to think about later on. Did you ever hear back about your trainer issue?

My journey has taken a little detour with surgery and everything. Then, I got bit by a bug or something and have had serious wanderlust. I'm not joking. I have this desire to be out in nature that I just cannot ignore. So, I've been doing a lot of hiking and exploring. I still have run every day and my running fitness makes me able to cover a lot of ground but it hasn't been the kind of running (in combination with the surgery) that will product a HM I would love.

So, that being said, I decided to drop the summer HM and just launch right into marathon training then maybe do a HM about 6-8 weeks out from the actual marathon. I think that will be more helpful in terms of giving me feedback on my marathon training.

I am racing in the regional 10K road championship this weekend, which will more or less kick off my marathon training. I'm still not totally where I want to be running fitness-wise, but it will be a good check in.

I'm going to multi-task marathon training and cross country racing. Cross country did some things for my running strength (mental and physical) that nothing else has replicated. So, hopefully I can harness that (and not burn out!) This is partially why I am giving myself a summer pass on my running and caving to my wanderlust. What I see happening is a hard cross country race (or practice) on Saturdays followed by long, marathon specific runs on Sundays.

I'm open to hear any feedback on this, too. But that's kind of where I am at right now.

Excellent plan!  You really seemed to enjoy XC last year and I'm happy to see that you are planning to do it again this year.

This is supposed to be fun, after all :-)

I like the idea too. There needs to be some room in the training schemes. I get that wanderlust too. That's exactly why I made the 8 hr trip last weekend to do some dinky non-standard race that no-one has really heard of before. It was out in the woods and along the shoreline of one of the great lakes I hadn't been to in like forever. Lots of opportunities to see waterfalls up there as well. Shorter midwest ones, but I'll take what I could get. Some of this off the path running may not seem to be *perfect* for building up to a marathon, but I think it still is helpful. It's still running and even more so it's taking care of you mentally. I don't think it's necessarily a good idea to continually just go from one marathon build to the next even if you took an appropriate amount of time to recover. The mental aspect is tremendous. You have to keep things fresh at times and you  have to do some things to make that so. The cross country season should help with that. It may not be quite *perfect*, but I think it brings a lot for you. Having a singular focus can be good for a time, but over a longer haul it can really burn you out.

I appreciate your feedback, Ben. There are so many helpful tidbits in what you said.

I feel comforted in the fact that even YOU get a little wanderlust You should come over to the PNW and I will show you some amazing stuff.

I have been working on figuring out such a trip!

Well, if you get serious please let me know. I would be happy to show you around or join you on an adventure or whatever.

There are so many to be had around here!

Next week I am going to hike up to about 10K on Mt. Hood with my snowboard, camp so I can see sunset/sunrise (it's south facing so you can look east and west for rise/set) snowboard down then run a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail.

Is there anything specific you were looking to do or see?

Definitely will! I don't really have specifics for up there yet. With so much there it can actually make it harder to pinpoint anything. Kind of like the Glacier Park trip a few years ago, but had my brother there to figure things out. Him and one of his roommates would pore over maps all evening and just look for interesting routes. Brother just liked going out and the roommates job was in trip planning for visitors there. I could just let them do there thing and eventually say "that one"! Mostly it's just hiking up high for some views. Nothing tricky, just a lot of it. Then some waterfalls here and there. I have to get through the next 6-7 weeks first though, as there are like 10-12 events that have my attention. No way I can do them all! Be happy to know that interest in running more has been coming back around with the increased wanderlust over the summer. Have to get through these next few weeks and see where it takes me as this could grow substantially and hang around awhile.

That trip sound fantastic! Exactly the kind of thing my brother would do with his girlfriend, only telemark skiing instead. She may actually be up in the area now.

I also found this awesome recipe for balsamic dressing from scratch and I have some tomatoes, basil and mozzarella that are calling my name, begging me to make the dressing.  *droooool*

Lately we've been finding the specialty oil shops and LOVING all the vinegars!! Currently in the house we have the following balsamics:
vanilla
maple
fig
espresso

ALL SO GOOD!!

We are on a vegetable cooking tear too LOL - we are in a farm share and we have so many veggies we don't know what to do with them all?! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH #fwp

If you go into Garmin Connect, I assume that you are getting a map?  And that your GPS is on (no weather for indoor workouts like treadmill and swimming).

For example, for my swim this morning I got, "Sorry we do not have weather for this activity."

For my run (outdoor) last night, I got:

Source: KRDU.

79°
Feels like 79°
6 mph NW wind
Humidity 51%

ETA:  It's important that I included the humidity data if only to make Chris jealous!

ETA2:  The Edge puts the data into Strava.  The Forerunner does not.

Nope.  Not a word on the trainer issue, although I was assured, "Your email is important to us, and will be answered in the order it was received."

Janyne, you are now on my short list! 51% humidity! How do you cope with such desert like conditions?!?!?!

Hahaha!  A cold front moved in on Tuesday night (along with 1.5 inches of rain in about an hour).  Trust me, the humidity was much more Florida-like for my Tuesday lunch run!

I think we're at 75% humidity for today?  It was actually really pleasant in terms of temperature this morning, only 19C/70F!  Which will get up to 35C/100F by this afternoon.  I'm LOVING the heat!!

There are some people here that are truly doing their best to live up to the city's motto of "Keep Austin Weird".  I find it quite entertaining!

Sorry to barge in unannounced, but I thought I would pass on the news that the Manatees' own Erin(4agoodlife) is 39 years old today. I am quite certain that this little post will get me in trouble as she is not one for fanfare. So please up the ante and do something to wish my gorgeous wife and my best friend a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! If you guys do something much larger and brighter than I have, she will most likely forget to get mad at me!

Back to your regularly scheduled Manatee Program!

Not only is he a great athlete, he is a great mentor. I have been in his mentor group for the last two rounds and he inspires and encourages our entire group daily.
