Suzuki Aerio Hatchback 2003. I can fit tons of stuff in there: two bikes and still plenty of room for luggage.

My next car should be the newer Honda Fit model. The interior of the 2009 model is just about the same size as my Aerio if not roomier.

BMW X3. Mileage is OK (24 highway). I carry my bike on the roof, but it can fit in the back if you want. Tons of storage space if you fold 2nd row down.

Wish I had XM. Sirrus sucks because MLB is on XM.

2001 Honda Civic LX sedan. Love it. Slap on the trunk mount rack and go. Honda reliablity--zero mechanical problems so far (sound of knocking on wood). 30 mpg city 35+hwy.

Toyota Tacoma light truck - 22 MPG city / 26 HWY (I drive like an old man - I can honestly say that I have put more miles on my bike than my truck this year!). Plenty of room in the plus cab area for gear - a real person cannot sit back there.

2009 Honda Fit, ~50 miles. We actually picked it up yesterday and I put the bike in it for the first time this afternoon. I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to do that. I'm a guy, so my bike's kind of big and I'm not sure if I would be able to put the bike in upright with the front wheel off. It's a possiblility. We've got an old Yakima rack for our older car and next year we may look into putting it on the new car. For the size of the car, it's got a ton of cargo room. The back seats fold down flat. The horizontal portion of the back seat folds up, so you can put big things behind the front seats. Best thing, in my opinion, at nearly 6'5", I'm comfortable in the thing and there's space for people to still sit behind me.

So far our first tank of gas is averaging 39 miles per gallon in city/highway driving. I've heard stories of people getting over 40 regularly.

I have a Mazda 3 Hatchback and it's a great tri car. Didn't know a thing about triathlon when it bought it, so it was a lucky mistake. I have a pretty small bike, but I can toss it in the back with the seats down and even leave the wheel on. I get 25-30 mpg depending and a TON of compliments. It's really cute.

However, I covet Honda Elements. They have great durable interior, no nasty carpet to mess up with bike tires and road salt in the winter. And you can strap in two bikes upright! Wow.

Toyota 4Runner, two years old 96,000 miles on it and have had NO problems what so ever. I've only had to change the oil since buying it. It held THREE bikes and THREE girls and all our stuff....on the INSIDE.

Oh, and I LOVE the thing. LOVE it, don't even miss my previous way overpriced (yet sweet as h*ll) yuppy german made sedan.

Nice choice! I also just got a 2009 Honda Fit. I've had it for 2 weeks now and am averaging 38 mpg all city driving!!!! I got the Fit Sport, so the spoiler on the back makes it impossible to use my strap-on bike rack. But my bike fits great in the back with the rear seats folded down flat. I'm 6'3" and ride a 58 cm road bike with a pretty tall seat. It still fits upright in the back without having to remove/lower the seat, but with the front wheel taken off. Just get a piece of plywood, cut it to fit in the back between the rails they have along the side, and put a fork mount on it. Then you're good to go (yes, I've done this and it works exceptionally well). You can also use the tie downs if you feel the need for some extra security, but I haven't felt this was necessary yet. This way you keep your great gas mileage and keep your bike protected inside. With the bike upright there's still plenty of space for the rest of your gear.

With a smaller bike you could probably get it in using "tall mode" where the rear seat bottoms are lifted up. But my big bike just wouldn't quite fit that way. But that's ok, it looks cooler and fits easier in the back with the fork mount.

I gather you do not have kids?

I drive a Chevy Tahoe Hybrid. I needed the third row of seats and ability to carry gear with the kids.....

This summer while they were in camp I commuted mostly on my bike - which was great but now school is back in session, as is fall baseball......

Pontiac Vibe GT

Like the other Vibe/Matrix drivers have said, its a great multi-use vehicle. I'm willing to say you could get four road bikes inside the car and still have two passengers. There is lots of room in the car.

Mines the GT model is it's a 6sp manual. I think its fun to drive.

A really cool one...1984 TDT Wagon with Lovecraft veggie oil conversion. The Mazola Benz: $1.00 a gallon, 28 to 30 mpg, rides like a cruise ship. Don't try to use it as a get-away car 0-60 in 45 seconds but it will cruise at 80 once Newton's laws take over.
