2009 Honda Fit, ~50 miles. We actually picked it up yesterday and I put the bike in it for the first time this afternoon. I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to do that. I'm a guy, so my bike's kind of big and I'm not sure if I would be able to put the bike in upright with the front wheel off. It's a possiblility. We've got an old Yakima rack for our older car and next year we may look into putting it on the new car. For the size of the car, it's got a ton of cargo room. The back seats fold down flat. The horizontal portion of the back seat folds up, so you can put big things behind the front seats. Best thing, in my opinion, at nearly 6'5", I'm comfortable in the thing and there's space for people to still sit behind me.
So far our first tank of gas is averaging 39 miles per gallon in city/highway driving. I've heard stories of people getting over 40 regularly.

Nice choice! I also just got a 2009 Honda Fit. I've had it for 2 weeks now and am averaging 38 mpg all city driving!!!! I got the Fit Sport, so the spoiler on the back makes it impossible to use my strap-on bike rack. But my bike fits great in the back with the rear seats folded down flat. I'm 6'3" and ride a 58 cm road bike with a pretty tall seat. It still fits upright in the back without having to remove/lower the seat, but with the front wheel taken off. Just get a piece of plywood, cut it to fit in the back between the rails they have along the side, and put a fork mount on it. Then you're good to go (yes, I've done this and it works exceptionally well ). You can also use the tie downs if you feel the need for some extra security, but I haven't felt this was necessary yet. This way you keep your great gas mileage and keep your bike protected inside. With the bike upright there's still plenty of space for the rest of your gear.
With a smaller bike you could probably get it in using "tall mode" where the rear seat bottoms are lifted up. But my big bike just wouldn't quite fit that way. But that's ok, it looks cooler and fits easier in the back with the fork mount.
