alcohol is legal and i can get fired for alcohol use from my job (if i'm in an incident at work the first thing they do before they even treat me is take a urine and hair sample.  anything in it and i'm fired and ineligible for workmen's comp).

if colorado is a right-to-work state, your employer can fire you for any reason.

Not speaking for my employer at all, but I hear that because it is still against federal law, the states can't legalize it. So a worker in Colorado can toke it, but if/when he's fired for doing so (because his THC levels are high even if he's not 1 week after) he can sue, but when it goes to fed court, he'll lose.

Definitely creates an interesting discussion with HR...

It doesn't have anything really to do with "right-to-work". If you company has policy against drugs and you smoke (legally) and you get tested, you're done. Even if you have a "medical marijuana card" and can use it, you can still be fired. There is case law upholding this in both Michigan and California. If you can get termed for having it as a prescription, then you can surely get termed for smoking it. No different than alcohol. It's legal.....but if I drink a few beers at lunch and come back to work, I can get fired.

Yeah, but not a complete apples to apples comparison.  Sure, you come back after a few drinks it is still in your system, but if you have a few drinks the night before and then go to work, it is gone and the effects are gone.  Not completely true with wacky weed.  It stays in your system a while without providing the effects.

There are tests for under the influence. Just like all the other drugs. I can't go to work under the influence of opiates even if I have a prescription. I really do not understand how this is confusing. You can't go to work, drunk, loaded, or stoned. Period. And just because it is "legal", it does not make it a "right".

I've been saying we are screwed no matter who won.

Back away from the ledge. We're not screwed. The S&P 500 has gained 54 percent since Jan 1, 2009. It's now down 2.5 percent on the day. I am unconcerned about this expected decline.

powerman.  You are right you can not/should not go to work under the influence of anything (though I knew couple of people who done it)  Alcohol you wait and 2 days later you clean.  weed you smoke it and 1 month after you might test positive.  I think hair sample it might be 6 months (atleast 2 to 3).  So yeah I wonder if testing would be different or kinda like sure you can do it but you better not.

There are test for weed for UNDER THE INFLUENCE. I'm not really sure how else to say that. Drugs are illegal, so they only test to see if you have broke the law. Simple, easy. There have always been tests to show you are UNDER THE INFLUENCE of marijuana. But up until now, there has been no point.

Lots of happy dancing in my state since we legalized recreational marijuana haha.

Right there we just improved the economy by increasing the junk food markets!  I am happy!

I'm not on the ledge. The country is screwed though. The debt crisis wasn't resolved, if anything it's gotten worse with more people underwater than ever. Student loans are about to become a massive drag on the economy. Wall street is still pillaging. Government spending is still out of control. Congress is still incompetent and beholden to corporations. Incomes are still falling. Not a lot of hope and change for me.

This was expected. The fiscal cliff still looms, Europe still sucks and everybody is moving toward risk-off. Take your money and put it under a mattress. Or buy gold. Those are your options. People will chill out in a couple days. Besides, aren't markets cyclical in nature?

Markets are mostly rational but when they go off the rails they do it in grand style!

I knew I should have sold everything yesterday!

Just hold onto it. It'll bounce later this week. The green line is going to cross the red line soon.

I am not so sure it will recoup that much this week.  Over time yes, but we still have Taxamaspendamageddon to worry about aka the fiscal cliff.  If it looks like Cap gains will go up there will be sell offs around the end of the year in addition the normal amount of profit taking that goes on.  It will go back up eventually yes but I think it will take some time simply because of the uncertainty we have right now.  It may however be close to time to start selling off the gold I bought a few years ago.

The markets are really weird (shocking I know).  I was actually expecting them to go up today because the markets really like the perpetual QE and Obama will quite likely continue with that.

The other factor is the value of the dollar effecting the markets.  If the dollar crashes due to continued printing of money the markets theoretically go up.  S&P 1400 (current dollar value) would be 2800 if the dollar crashed to half value for example.  Dow would double.

I say this somewhat tongue in cheek, but Obama has inherited a real financial mess.

In some ways I think things are every bit as dire or potentially more dire than in 2008 simply because we're still in deep doodoo and the debt and spending is a whole lot higher.

Yes we are. Nothing has been fixed, only made worse. We're one big shock (Lehman Bro.'s for example) from it all falling apart again.

Most of the people/issues I voted for won so I am happy. I am more concerned that fewer people voted this election than last despite a larger pool of voters. Add to that the nebulous PAC/super PAC dark money floating around and what little return almost 2 billion in advertising gets you I am worried. I dont understand the current dynamic - some people are reduced to spittle flying rants over a simple coversation. I guess the have always been that way but with many of the social media outlets they just become more front and center. I prefer secular pragmatism and compromise ( which is apparently really bad I am told ) and a candidate that can project that has my attention.
