Pat and I usually get Pierogies (mmm nothing says lovin' like onions!) and watch horror films.

But this year , I think my international friends are going to get together and make really stinky food and eat ourselves silly. mmm...curry and german sausages.

I agree.  Nothing sadder than some poor person sitting around just hoping and wishing that their SO would do something unexpected and wonderful for them on Valentine's day when it would never, EVER occur to them to do it any other time of the year.  If you have to bundle up all your hopes for overt expressions of love on one day of the year (or two - your birthday or three - your anniversary) then I would say your needs are definitely not being met in the relationship.  If they are, Valentines day is just another day in February that was a lot of fun back when you hoped that cute boy would put a "Be Mine" pepto bismol tasting candy heart in your cubby.

I once did the big valentine's day thing with an ex -- flowers, stuffed animal, fancy dinner, and the whole thing felt really forced. Haven't been doing it since, which seems to be much better. So this year, since I'm dong the long-distance thing, I'm on my own, and I have great plans --

Going to the Westminster Dog Show!!! So I get to spend valentine's day with hundreds of dogs and other dog lovers!!!!

Did the massage thing last weekend.  Premature Valentination?

OK -then take RGRBILL's adivce.

Damn!  I cashed mine in yesterday!  Oh well!

We're going to 2 concerts at the House of Blues  (Marc Broussard and Better Than Ezra) the week after.  Seems like doing something on that day is a little cliche' after being together 10 years.   I have my Valentine all year long!

My husband and I decided a long time ago that we would not celebrate Valentine's Day, except for the kids. Our anniversary is coming up, my birthday, and mother's day are all in a 5 week span of time, so I don't expect my husband to do anything more than he already does. He did tell me that he got "us" a gift this year, so I am very intrigued.

I'm going to do a Max here and take the fifth on what I ordered and where I ordered it from.  Other than that, I'm going to babysit while she gets pampered with a massage and facial.

"When I was in college, my mom would send me 20 bucks and a some chocolate on Valentines Day. It's cool when parents do stuff for kids.  I kinda wish she'd still send me the 20 bucks, but, as she says, growing up's a bitch." ... by Chipmunkheart ...

The best part of growing up is when YOU start buying presents for your mom and/or dad.  I love to lavish gifts on my mom for Valentine's, Mother's Day, her birthday, Chritstmas and sometimes just because I love her.

A flaming, heart- shaped box of dog crap at his front door?

diclaimer: I am in the process of getting divorced.

BEAUTIFUL!

I am recently divorced. And not generally bitter--I save myself for the truly inspired moments, like above.

The last two V'days have been better than the previous seven I was with my ex. At least I know going in that anything I get will be from myself or someone I used to sleep with.

I will probably go to the gym. I am also doing my taxes tonight and thus on that day I am going to get myself a massage and a bunch of bulbs. And possibly some saucy toenail polish.

Of course, my son and I both have dentist appointments, which shows you what I really think of the day.

I also may take another solo friend to the cool local wine bar, but then we'd have to see all the couples. Blech. Nah. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.

Im relieved Im going to be away in another city for Valentines Day - travelling for work sometimes has its advantages!!!

I know the boy would probably try to make an effort but we arent quite serious nad any extra attention always makes me feel really uncomfortable...

Having said that he has alway wanted one of those Robosapien Robots to terrorise th other staff at work so Im contemplating getting one  of those delviered

Just in time:

Let's face it, getting lingerie and chocolates for Valentine's day is alright. But this year, why not treat your valentine to something they *really* want! Maybe a new TYR swimsuit and a box of Luna Bars? Or a 2006 Louis Garneau race suit, and a box of Gu? That's more like it! Take advantage of this rare opportunity to save 15% off your entire order, including closeout & sale items!* Use coupon code "VALENTINE" and save big! Happy Valentines day from your friends at TriSports.com!

every day is valentine's day in my house!

bill and i don't really do the valentine's day thing. sometimes we'll give each other cards, but there's no expectation. this year i splurged and got him some crank bros candy pedals on clearance and a cyclocross dvd called 'pure sweet hell'. he would have gotten both anyway, but it was fun to make them a present.

ella and i just finished decorating a 'mail box' with pictures of flowers and fairies and hearts...and got all the wee little valentines cards ready for her classmates. i have to admit, that part of the holiday was quite fun. this is the first time i've done those little cards with her. i still remember giving them out and getting them when i was in school.

I think I came up with a good one.  My wife has never been interested in massages before due being a little self conscious but I noticed a flyer in her ob/gyn office when we went in for an ultrasound a few weeks ago.  They offer a pregnancy massage.  My wife's 7+ mos. preggers and I think she'll love it.  I just bought one for her and I'm going to arrange for someone to watch the kids so she can go next Friday and enjoy!

Woohoo!  I think I finally did one right!

(beats the year I bought her a steam cleaner)
