Are they anticipating a breach of protocol by the czar? Or they expect it to be resolved completely in 5 months. Or less. I'm leaning to less personally. It would have looked bad if they said this position was expected to end within a week after the November election. |

Originally posted by tuwood Shep did a pretty good job of pointing out how ridiculous the hysteria is. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/15/shepard-smith-ebola_n_5992510.html I'm flying to Boston with my son this Saturday and flying to Orland in 3 weeks with my whole family. My biggest fear is the airline losing my luggage. Funny I heard this report and later that day I was watching the hearings on fox news and I learned that ebola very well gets spread by dogs and that the government is covering that fact up. |

I'm not sure if the government is capable of creating anything temporary, so I got $5 that says it will be a permanent position. ;-) |

Champion 7821 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: EBOLA on American Soil!!!! What we SHOULD be doing, if we're really concerned about an outbreak of Ebola on US soil is doing everything we can to control the outbreak in Africa. That's not a popular view among the people who want to wrap the US in plastic wrap and duct tape, but it's a much more effective strategy long term than trying to ban flights or putting hundreds of people in quarantine. Currently, we're a long, long LOOONG way from there being any significant chance of an outbreak among the general populaion in the US. But, if we (and by "we" I mean the global community) don't do everything we can to control the spread in West Africa, the more likely it is that it will spread to neighboring countries and become harder to stop globally. It's possible to prevent the entry of an affected person now, even without West African travel bans. If the disease spreads well beyond Liberia, Sierra Leone, etc, it will be more difficult to prevent from entering the US. |

Pro 9391 Omaha, NE | Subject: RE: EBOLA on American Soil!!!! Just got back last night from Boston and it was kind of funny how many Ebola jokes I heard at the airport and on the plane. It's good to see that people aren't buying into the media's fear campaign. I saw one lady at O'Hare that was wearing a surgical mask, but other than that it was business as usual. |

I haven't read all the specifics yet, but as with the others he's a medical professional who was treating ebola patients in the late stages where the disease is most contagious. I'm sure the media will soon vilify him to the point where they start using his middle name as they do serial killers. |

Everything I have read is not only are they vilifying him, but also Obama for not closing the borders. Again, it is a "meh" situation. He went in on his own after developing symptoms. And to date the only ones to contract it HERE are health care workers. Even Duncan's family in TX didn't get it. Much ado about nothing. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: EBOLA on American Soil!!!! Sigh. Been through all this stuff with SARS in China. The US has been very lucky not to have been hard hit by too many scary/emerging diseases in recent years. Just surprised (or maybe not) how long it has taken them to start quarantining high-risk arrivals. In my mind given the severity of this disease and that we are still learning about it, it really should have been done from the get-go. High-risk= pretty much anyone from the seriously affected countries, definitely medical workers or others with probable exposure. In reality, perhaps best to quarantine anyone, since we are talking about fairly small numbers of people, and voluntary quarantine, even if the person follows it, could still put family members at risk. Medical workers can usually be relied on to disclose potential exposure, monitor themselves for symptoms and isolate themselves if they develop. Others may/may not have the knowledge or integrity to do so. Voluntary quarantine in China was often not effective for the simple reason that people want to get on with their lives; some will also be in denial after they develop initial symptoms or perhaps confuse them with another disease (in the case of SARS, there were simultaneous outbreaks of flu, whooping cough, and a virus similar to rubella, so it was hard to tell without testing who had what). People are vilifying the returning doctor who went bowling, out to eat, etc, after returning. It's only natural to want to enjoy some comforts of home after time in a desperately poor country with a high-stress job. Though he most likely put no one in public in danger (patients are only contagious when symptomatic), he shouldn't have been put in that position in the first place, in my opinion. He should have been in involuntary quarantine until the incubation period had passed. |

Champion 15211 Southern Chicago Suburbs, IL | Subject: RE: EBOLA on American Soil!!!! And now there is the nurse who is put in mandatory quarantine even though she has no symptoms. And the girl who returned from Nigeria (ebola free) who has not been allowed to go back to school. And the two boys in NYC who are from Senegal who were beaten up while their attackers chanted "Ebloa". Ugh! The fear caused by scientific illiteracy in this country is STAGGERING!. |
