I had a BT nightmare this weekend.  In my dream, I was the guy who walked up right next to the only other person in the locker room.  It was horrifying as I found myself using advice I'd seen on this board after I posted about my experience.

Guy at loocker: "Dude!!"

Me: "what? Maybe you should ease up on the caffiene intake"

Guy at locker, closing my door:  "Excuse me"

Me: ~rips his clothes out of his locker and throws them across the room~

Guy at locker:  "wtf is wrong with you?"

Me: "why are you so insecure, are you on 'roids'?"

Guy at locker: "you're crazy, I bet I know what's wrong with you"

Me: ~walking away~ "you better thank your lucky stars I'm not from Minnesota!!"

I haven't slept in two days worried it will be re-occuring.

So last night I walk into the locker room at the Y later than usual and it's empty.  There are a few locks here and there but nobody in the room.  I go over to a random locker and start changing.  I think there are 10 rows of lockers with 15 or 20 lockers on each side.

So I'm standing there half dressed and in walks this guy who kind of stands at the end of the row where I am.  I kind of nod to him and them he walks over and opens up the locker RIGHT NEXT TO the one I'm in.

I say, "dude!"

He says, "what?"

I say, "you can't find another locker in this whole empty room?"

He says, "I always use ths one"

I say, "not today"....and I shut his locker.

He just stands there......and then he kind of starts looking around, and then he kind of starts wringing his hands and looking really distraught, and then it dawns on my stupid arse that the guy is autistic or something similar and he really can't figure out what to do.  I felt like a schmuck.

I said, "here bud, I'm sorry" and opened his locker back up.....he didn't miss a beat, and looked like he just found his long lost friend.

There's a moral here somewhere......mostly it's about not being stupid.

I know there are a lot of responses but I have only read the opening post.  This is wrong. Yeah, it would bug me too...but really I can't believe you would handle it in this way.  It's an open gym and he has as much right as you or anyone else to take an empty locker...even if it's right next to yours.  Glad you realize you were being a schmuck.

Weird stuff goes on at gyms.  I hate going on the weekend as it seems like people are more clueless than usual.  I have my routine, place I like to park, locker I like to use, and lane I like to swim in, even guys that I like and do not like to talk to.  Too bad I have to share the gym with soo many d!*%$ that disrupt my routine.

i probably would have made some kind of smart-asz and comical remark and moved my stuff to another locker.  i like a little personal space in a locker room if i can help it.  i like the urinal pic above....that says it all, kind of an extension of the bro-code.

the bear - 2013-03-08 11:12 AM I work out at the largest health club int the South, HUGE locker room. But I swear if there are only two of us in the whole gym the other guy will pick the locker next to mine.

That said, there's no way I'm going to tell another paying member what locker (or other equipment) he can or can't use. Lighten up a bit.

They are only hitting on you, Bear.

Yesterday there was an elderly man naked and shaving his (ample) stomach while leaning on the water cooler in the locker room. I will be in therapy for months.

He's a paying customer, I'm sure if it doesn't say "please don't shave your stomach in the water fountain" he's fine.

Around here, the locker numbers are written on the locker keys, so you won't forget which locker is yours.

mdg2003 - 2013-03-08 1:21 PM  Hey, on the bright side it wasn't "naked locker room guy."
When they remodeled our Y they put the Sauna's out in the pool area with glass doors. Happiest day of my life. No more opening my eyes to see naked calesthetics being done. I don't know how many times I wanted to wash my eyes with bleach.

Eh.....I appreciate that sentiment but I probably don't deserve it.  It's easy for me to do the right thing when the other person is "weaker" (for lack of a better term) since I hate people who pick on others just because they can.  I'm afraid I wouldn't have fared as well if we had been on equal footing.....then again, maybe I would have been tossed over the lockers. I believe the moral is if you act like a tool, recognize that, and already feel like a schmuk...

Don't post about it on BT unless you are looking to get piled on!

I don't consider anything that happens on BT to be "piled on".....it's just discussion.....doesn't make a hill of beans.  Sometimes you learn something, sometimes you don't, sometimes you're right, sometimes you're wrong....but always it's just entertainment, so who cares?

I'm always "entertained" by the internet tough guys that say that start in the locker room...

and I totally buy that you shut the guys locker on him ... no doubt in my mind [/sarcasm]

Why in the world would you think this has anything to do with being naked?  Where does it say that anywhere in anything I have posted in this thread.  I even wrote that I'd tell my own family members to move under the same circumstances.

It has to do with space........I can't possibly imagine a reason to walk to a locker right next to someone in a locker room that is completely empty......unless you are Rainman...in which case, like in this case, I'll make an exception.

It has nothing to do with being a tough guy.....it has nothing to do with being naked....it has EVERYTHING to do with space, and the enjoyment of it.

If me telling you to move makes me a "locker room tough guy".....then you need to spend more time around tough guys....just saying.
