Hang in there.  We are fortunate to have such good diagnostics and specialists nowadays that they can do something about it.

I was chatting with a friend the other day about several different things I've come through that would've been untreatable just a generation or 2 ago.

Hoping for the best in your situation.

Well you've got a 50-50 chance at getting the best doctor in the entire country, how many people can say that?  I bet running up mountains will be even better once it's all done and the only pain is in your legs!

Thank you everybody.

Ya, I have to have a MRA... a MR angiogram. Doc says it is a huge breakthrough and much much better way of finding these things over how they used to do it. I guess that was pretty dangerous too.

My doc said if he would have opened me up and found it, they would have just closed me back up. One guy is in Phoenix and he has worked with him. Watched him do one and he still does not get how he can do what he does.

However... it took me a bit to get my head wrapped around Door #1, and that is what I am sticking with. That this is just being overly cautious, and we will reschedule and give me time to get over this sucky cold. Ya, have not had a cold in 2 years and my co-worker Typhoid Ryan gave me a doosy. I have not got off the couch the last 3 days. Off to work I go, it should be a fun weekend.

I always ask for bionic parts when they open me up.  So far no luck, but someday...

This x 2 exactly what I was thinking. My grandfather died in his 50's from a heart attack. Fast forward and  my dad had quadruple bypass in his 50's but is now in his 70's. He has had cancer, an aneurysm, and follow up surgeries for all of the original work done 20 years ago. Modern medicine can do amazing things- believe it.

BUT I've been praying for you too. And now you get a giant, heartfelt cyber hug.

Now I'm really bummed. I have to go to Phoenix. It's an arterial venous malformation. I really really did not want to have to go to Phoenix. Go in a couple weeks. 4-5 days in the hospital before I can go home.Frown

On the positive side:

Now there is no chance the tumor I thought I had turns out to be cancer which was a possibility.

The guy in Phoenix is the the guy that wrote the book on these things. So I am going to the best hospital in the world for this.

And... when these things are fixed, they are fixed, done, end of story.... other than the risks involved with surgery... which it is a risky surgery.

The surgery is the same though... laminectomy... cut a few vertebrae, dig around in my spinal cord, but now I have the risks of blood clots and strokes. It's been a sucky couple of weeks... but I am going for a run now in the snow. Doc said I can go back to doing what I want I'm not at any particular risk of anything.

Glad to hear there is no chance of cancer. Also glad to hear you get to go to the best to get this taken care of!

I'm sorry to read about your health issues Powerman.  That does suck.  I'm glad you're going to see the world's specialist though--that's the way to go--even if it does mean having to go to Phoenix.  Sending lots of positive energy your way :)

Thanks Aaron and Switch. I guess it will all work out. It's just been a sucky couple of weeks.

The frequency and intensity have been getting much worse. My skin hurts to touch/hyper sensitive. They gave me some Lyrica which I think is helping, but I do not know. If it is, holy cow, it would be much worse. It's getting pretty painful. I read some stories of other folks... needless to say that was pretty depressing. I hope it get's fixed.

My flesh and blood friends have been great, and my virtual ones are too. Thanks for all the thoughts.

I hope your surgery goes great!  One of my friend's husband's just had an amazing experience at Mayo in AZ.  He flew in from Denver.  They said the whole process went way smoother than they expected.  I hope the same is true for you!

So the saga continues.... Phoenix said it was indeed a tumor that is bleeding. My doc said Phoenix is more able to handle any vascular problems if they occur... so, I'm off to Phoenix Sunday am, surgery Tuesday. Phoenix said at least it looks even more unlikely it is cancerous, but obviously won't know until biopsy. And the bleeding part actually makes it easier to get out. Who knew?

So the kids were right..." it is a toomah" (Arnold voice). I'm just ready to get it over with.... but still not real thrilled with the whole digging around in my spinal cord thing. I'll let you know how it goes.

Well that was a big kick in junk. Holy crap. First night was a big hoot. And, the morphine drip wasn't that fun. We'll, it went great. It was benign. They got all of it out, and they only had to cut two vertebrae. Right now I have some serious deficits from surgery. My left leg is numb. But that will get better. Hopefully it won't take long. Thank you very much for all the prayers and good wishes along the way.
