But PayPal will take a cut of your proceeds

Definitely thanks to Bear for the link. I actually applied for the team as well, as I had seen Javelin bikes out at races, but didn't know about the Team (figured that people just loved the suits and wore those to race in).

Both Geoff and Dave were great to work with, and happily signed me up for a Parma and a Varese. Amazing deal getting two bikes for under $800 that potentially retail for over $2200.

Thanks Bear for posting the information, it is much appreciated, this is a great opportunity for someone like me who is just getting started, I got a bike for an incredible discount, and maybe if they accept my application to the team I will get a uniform to compete in too...

Looking for Pedals for the Fara bike... will the Crank Brothers Mallet C ones work?

I found a deal that comes with shoes and the pedals. I already have SPD road shoes but they have no traction on the bottom. Not so good for riding around Chicago.

jdwright56 - 2008-03-11 7:06 PM Mine were delivered today - I ordered them on Friday.  It came with the back wheel attahed to the frame, handlebars off, seatpost off but seat attched to the seatpost, shifter and brake levers attached to the bars, but all of the drive train is disconnected and must be assembled.  All of th cable routing must be done.  I guess I have a weekend project.

I spoke a little too soon on this.  The back tire and all of the cranks,bb,fd and rd are already connected and secured.  All you need to do is put it together and run the cable routing.  You can do it in a couple of hours if you have the right tools, which you should have anyway, since you need most of them for bike maintenance and such.  I did most of mine last night and all I have left are hooking up the FD and RD and adjusting the tension and such.  Plan on taking it for a little spin tonight or tomorrow.

Thank you. I'm going to look into them more. Anything beats a $99 Walmart bike.

or my 197? Takara! My bike weighs so much that I knocked the whole rack over at my last sprint. I'm sure it wasn't funny to all those who had paid more that $25 at a yard sale for their bike!

Wahoo! I ordered the Garda today! I thought a new bike was years in my future, but this was an opportunity not to pass up. I would have liked the Fara, but they don't have them in a size 59 anymore. They have a couple 59s in the Narni, and the Garda still.

This should be a picture of the Garda:

divemed06 - 2008-03-12 3:20 PM Anyone know the cost for shipping to Canada?

Not sure on Canada, but for Illinois to Virginia he quoted me $30 for UPS Ground. I would imagine that customs would stall delivery for a day or two as well.

I just dropped my bike off at the local bike store. It's a very high end LBS but I figured it was close by and they would know how to treat the bike well instead of some kid in the back throwing it together, and it being my first I didn't want to muck it up myself.

I got a "Whoooaaa" out of the guy. He was totally impressed with the bike for that price and said the components were worth $1000 alone. He said they used to sell this brand but they never came grouped that well.

I know we all knew it was a great deal, but was just pleased with his reaction so I thought I'd share.

Almost wishing I had sprung for a Narni now too.

Well, it isn't too late!

The owner of my LBS had a similar reaction when I showed him the price list. Sure gives you a little boost of confidence in your purchase!

OK, so my first post went blank, let me type this all out again.

Hi, I'm new to this site (as of 2 days ago) and plan on doing my first tri this summer. I need a bike but I would like to get in as "reasonable" as possible, which is why I was really excited when I saw this thread.

My problem is that I have no idea what size I would need, I am 5' 9" and 180.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

FoodK:

The best thing you can do is get measured at a bike shop.

That being said someone on another forum gave me this link:

http://www.wrenchscience.comChoose "road" and on the upper right hand side is a tab called "fit system" Go on there and put in all your measurements. You have to sign up, but it's free.

Geoff helped me out with sizing when I spoke with him (or it could have been Dave... I was transfered in the middle of the call after starting the conversation with Dave, so assuming Geoff).

Both he and I are 5'10" and ride a 57cm. A friend of mine is 6'1" and rides a 59/60cm.

If you are of average statue (ie. legs and core/torso are fairly proportional, neither being exceptionally long), I would think you could comfortably ride on a 56cm frame.

Does that sound right to other people?

When I bought my Javelin last year Geoff originally recommended a 56" to me based on my measurements over the phone, but I went with what I had been recommended by Endurosport in Toronto and bought a 51" and it fits like a glove. I'm 5'8", 31" inseam FWIW

Shipping to Canada took a couple of days longer due to customs and I believe I paid $75 shipping but also was dinged with $160 brokerage fees by FedEx.

The guys at Javelin are a great bunch to deal with - I've made a few other purchases from them (accessories like socks, water bottles, T shirts) and they're always great to work with.

I didn't have to sign for mine, it was on the front porch, it was nice to have it there, however, anyone could have driven by and picked it up. I'm thinking a call to Fed Ex may be in order, unless I was supposed to tell Javelin to ship it differently?

Hey, just wanted to say thanks for this. I just bought a Sizzano for me (wanted a Narni but they were out of my size), and a Garda for my DH. Can't wait to get them!

I bought a sizzano and a parma, and did the assembly last night, although the headset and bottom brackets were installed, I pulled them and applied lithium grease. Both headsets were almost dry. So be sure to check those areas out. Any aluminum to aluminum thread should be lubed to keep the medals from oxidizing. Just an FYI. Otherwise they are really easy to set up, nothing difficult at all. If you do any maintnance on your bike, you shouldn't have any trouble assembling.

Just FYI for new people finding this thread - I just called to check to see what is left in the multi-sport bikes in 51cm and 47cm he said they have them all in those sizes. Guess there are less of us shorties/girls buying Tri Bikes.

I'm realllllly tempted to get a second one but I wouldn't get the free shipping deal and you know It's hard to justify a Tri bike even at that stellar price.

Anyway if you're shorter there are probably bikes still left for you.

I was told a couple of hours ago that all they had left in a 51 was the sizzano, because I really wanted the Narni. Do you remember who you talked to?

I am really glad to hear that all they had was sized for short people available and I am guess from the beginning now I don't feel so bad plus I just got my bike.
