Holey moley! That hill is huge! OMG, 20 miles of uphill climb....twice! This looks out of my league. I'm not sure I can climb that hill. Somebody please tell me climbing 2,000 feel in 20 miles is not as bad as it looks and sounds!

~Mike

You call that little thing a problem? This is a mountain. 1000+ ft in >5 miles..it hurt.

Honestly 2k in 20 miles isn't all that bad. Now put that in half that or less...then it could really hurt.

Wow, tha looks like Batman's mountain.  :-

I think I'm about to get me head around the bike course.....still not sure I want to start my long bike rides in Feb/Mar.  Still cold and wet here in this time frame.

Nope... no whining... it is hot at the bottom and cold at the top. Mt. Lemmon in Tucson.

Looking at the profile, it look like you go out, then do two loops of climb...  I could be guessing though.

It is, per the map.  Those climbs "look" bad but about 1700 feet over 20 miles, is not bad at all (well, not for a normal bike ride, it is tough in an IM ) .   Just have to settle in and do it.  Plus you get a nice long 12 mile downhill to T2.

I'd be more worried about the run

That's what I saw to!  I good 20-25 min rest before having to run.  Nice!

I wasn't too worried about the climb either.  My "flat" course is 750 of vert in 20 miles.  I can double that...  No prob.

Just saw the run course profile (went up on the site today, I think). Nice. For a change, I might just have a chance to catch a few of the guys in my AG who inevitably blow by me on the bike and then only suck just enough on the run that a flat course lets them hang on. I'm actually sitting here looking forward to the climbs on my trail HM this weekend...

That run looks insane. 500 ft vert in first 3 miles at elevation. There is not one flat part the entire mary. So much talk about the bike, the run is where the pain will be. Holy moly.... I'm in

Wow, a trip to Florida is sounding better and better :P. Would we consider this the hardest IM in the states at this point? Or is there worse?

I did the Grand Columbian a couple of years ago. I think that the hills on that bike course had this one beat by quite a bit. It was 6-8% grade for 6 miles followed by 20 miles of steep rollers for one loop. This was done twice as that year, because of a forest fire they had to change the course the night before, we had to do two loops. The run wasn't so bad though. The night before they had to change it from a flat packed dirt run along the river to a rolling run along the highway, but it wasn't bad.

Maybe it is because I live here in Utah and we have mountains everywhere, but I don't think that it is going to be so bad. I think that if we could put those charts to scale it wouldn't be so scarey. Think about this for a moment, that course is used for the Utah Senior Games every year. I'm not senior yet, so I think I should be able to handle it.

Because of the run course it has to be the toughest IM in the states. The second 500 ft climb at mile 13 is going to make your calfs pop. Better be hydrated for that one.

Interested to see how this works out with Wildflower (should be same weekend). Would attract many of the same type of athletes from the same part of the country. Maybe that will delay both races selling out for a while?

I'm sitting at my desk at work and just looked at the run profile.

And started laughing out loud. Luckily my co-workers just ignore me, they think I'm nuts.

Thank you god that I train alot on hills. Looks like thats all I'll be training on!

Spots are going at about 200 a day.  Roughly 1000 left so you need to get on it before it sells out.

I am the volunteer director so bring some friends and sign up to volunteer.  All is done on the website.

I've been curious about the numbers. This got me out of my procratination to do an Ironman, and I signed up the day it went up, expecting it to sell out sooner.  Still its going to be fun, I'm trying to egg on some of my co workers to do it, but so far no luck.

In the 110 deg heat and you also didn't whine I bet.

Nope... no whining.... I am doing it again this year too.

Just like you can put on extra gloves, shoe covers, and jackets... I freeze water bottles and put them in my jersey and have to drink extra.
