They were canned because of driver complaints .... not because of dangers of rush hour.

I was wondering how the intersections are handled. My first tri was done on a closed course through a park so there was no traffic to contend with. How do they deal with intersections? Who stops? Are there people there? I know it sounds silly but I'm a trafficphobe and I know the first and last mile and change is a pretty busy section of road. Thanks!

All major traffic intersections are controlled by the local police.  The only big area you have to be concerned with is the Green Bridge road.  Its a hard down hill sharp left turn.  Police are at this intersection but just with the degree of the turn you need to be cautious.

Later in the race last year it started raining and the roads were slick around there.  Some dude went down and they ended up getting a Medivac at that corner.  Held up a lot of the ladies field for like a 1/2 hour.

Welp, we got the instructions email and wave assignments, much more real now.  Am I reading correctly that bike inspection isn't mandatory this year?  I thought I read earlier that they were doing it.  Just want to make sure I'm not missing something.  TIA

And the slow Clydesdales. It did make for lots of fun 5-wide passing after we started back up again. Looking forward to going off at 7:15 with my age group this year instead of DFL.

Hey gang, I'm not racing this year, but am volunteering.  Went to the Mid Maryland Tri Club meeting at Princeton Sports last night and picked up a couple nuggets of info:

  • Bike inspections not mandatory this year
  • The Tuesday night Princeton ride is unofficially still happening.  It's an unadvertised, fast ride, for advanced riders only.  I think it's going off at 6:00.  It is NOT a no-drop ride.

That's all I got for now.

Bozzone and Shapiro hands down.

But I met M. Lovato down at IMFL (he gave a breakfast talk to the IM Community Fund people) and he is a really nice and funny guy.  Sentimental favorite for me there .....

Looks like Chris Lieto has Columbia Triathlon listed on his schedule on his website.  Although I like Yoder to take it this year, if Lieto is in fact there he's going to kill the bike course, just as he did last year.  He'll have to then prove it on the run, something he's been struggling with as of late.  Regardless, all the pros are class acts.  Can't wait for next Sunday!!!

Yeah, I went by when they were strapping him to a stretcher with an ambulance.  I had to slow down, but I was the first relayer to go through so I wasn't losing any spots for our team.  One of the guys friends is over on ST and he said that other than some deep scrapes and bruises the guy ended up being alright.

I am going to try to race Columbia. I have not run much in the last 3 months, but should at least be able to swim bike pretty well on the course. Definitely interested in seeing some BTers.

That is great news Fred - it will be good to see you out there!

If anyone waits till the last minute like I do and has not booked a hotel, the host hotel has availability.  Sheraton Columbia Town Center.  $125/night.

I'm planning to arrive sometime Saturday and am up for meeting BTers for dinner Sat night.
