I raced CDA in 2008 at 185.... had some serious personal issues over the next 12 months and gained about 25 pounds. I want to be at 180 for race day. Would like to hit the 20 week mark at 190. Currently I have got myself back down to 205. At my heaviest 2 years ago I was pushing 250 so I am still pretty happy with where I am, racing is just soooooo much easier lighter though!

. Staying with a bunch of other club members in a Roundhouse just off part of the run course, on the lake. Not too far from downtown. I'm already thinking about the hilly goodness that my coach has in mind for me come January. My lodging just tried to bone me for the price, tried to double the price, I lied to them and told them I had no idea what this Ironman thingy was.....may be bad for karma, but it works wonders for my bank account! I wouldn't feel bad since all of the hotels and homes will definitely be taking advantage of racers this year since Hoopfest is that same weekend and lodging will be at top demand. Just don't wear any of your race tshirts or any Ironman branded gear! I just talked to my sister and she has a friend that lives in CdA that may let my family and I stay there for free! I'm keeping my fingers crossed! |

Regular 79 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread If anyone is having difficulty finding good accommodations at a reasonable rate, my husband and I are getting a deal on the fantastic house that we rented last June for IMCDA. If we could even get 2 more people, it would work out to $300 per week for each person. That's $42 a night. The house sleeps 8 people, has a great kitchen that they stock with food before we get there, a garage, etc. It is about 8 miles from the race course, but has this awesome bike trail that takes you right to the race start (Centennial Trail) mostly away from car traffic. It's a lot of fun to use for run and bike training. If anyone is interested just message me. N. |

Needless to say I'm nervous/excited/scared/pumped/etc. I'm not from the area (North Carolina and Washington, DC to be specific) so I'm still working out some travel plans since I know a few people in Seattle and possibly family friends in Spokane. I'd love any and all suggestions/advice on where to stay. Most likely I'll be renting a car and getting to Spokane/CDA on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning and leaving Monday. I'm not really picky about location as long as it's within an hour of the race site and price is more of my concern. Also, I still don't know if I'll be coming solo or with a family member or two, which puts another variable into play. Thanks for the help! If I were traveling to CDA I would want to arrive no later than Thursday and I would not want to try to leave on Monday. I have cramed an IM into a weekend, worked Friday and back to work on Monday, which is similar to traveling on Friday and Monday. It really takes away from the IM experiance. |

When I did IM FL in '06 I left the day after the race and that was awful. I was so rushed the next day havint to pack that morning it was not fun. I decided this time around I wouldn't leave until Tuesday. That way I can take it easy on Monday and get at least one day of R&R before heading back home. I'm actually thinking about leaving CDA on Tues and driving to Seattle and spending a few days there, then fly out of Seattle back home. If I can work the logistics out I'll probably do that- since I don't know when I'll be in that part of the country again to visit and Ive always wanted to go to Seattle. M ight as well make a vacation out of it  |

The Best Western in CDA on Appleway in fact is owned by Hagadone Hospitality, the same company that owns and operates the CDA Resort. I can't specifically speak to a shuttle bus for IM but it does make sense.

Hope everyone is having a great summer racing and thinking about next year's IM. I will be following the "Be Iron Fit" training plan and according to that I will be starting on November 30th. It was around 70ish degrees and I did not wear a wetsuit- wish I would have worn mine. It was pretty cold- and then it made me think of the IM CDA swim and how cold that will be even with a full wetsuit. Does anyone know the average lake temp for the race? |

I have done IMCDA 5x with a sleevless suit and plan to do the same again next year. If you do not normally swim in cold water then you might want to pick up some wax ear plugs. If I do not wear plugs and get cold water in my ears then I get very dizzly when I try to stand up at the end of the swim. |

I have serious trouble with cold temperatures. In fact, I was unable to finish the last (my supposed first) IM CDA because of hypothermia and I have Raynaud's (arteries in extremities spasm and constrict in response to cold temperatures and vibration, leading to severe blanching and loss of circulation). The swim (in a full wetsuit, no ear plugs or double cap) was the warmest part of my day. N. Edited by NLG 2009-08-10 10:24 AM |
