Subject: RE: Jake the Wonder Dawg, my running partner, is dyingMike, The thought of losing a longtime pet is one of the worst feelings in the world. Last month our 10 year old English Bulldog finally got to point where we could tell he longer enjoyed life. He even stopped begging for food from our three year old daughter, who "accidentally dropped" food at an alarming rate. He had been going downhill since Thanksgiving but you can tell when they are no longer enjoying life. Our bulldog was a huge part of our life. I bought him for my girlfriend as a valentines day present. A few years later, I tied the engagement ring around his neck and dressed him in a doggie tux to propose to the same girlfriend. My daughter adored him. He was the centerpiece of every holiday, getting dressed up in costume for almost every holiday picture. He was also a giant pain in the but he was family. Making the decision is the hardest thing I have ever done (I have done this twice now in the last 4 years and it doesn't get easier the second time ). On d-day, I went home at lunch and just sat with him and balled my eyes out for an hour and half. I still get teary eyed when I talk about him (especially when my daughter still tells me she misses him so much ). There is a reason dogs are called man's best friend. Hope you can find peace with your decision. R.I.P. Edited by bgraboski 2009-09-10 12:00 PM
