I swam a 10k open water race (WITHOUT a wetsuit) on Saturday.

Then did the Boulder 5430 HIM the next day.  It was amazingly my third fastest HIM swim despite the 10k of swimming the day before!

Did my first sprint triathlon at age 50, three years after having open heart surgery.  Finished close to last in 2h:02m.

Did the same race a year later in 1h:30m.

Did my first open water tri (and my 2nd race ever), with a taped-up finger that I had dislocated and fractured two days before.

Won my AG in my 2nd tri...after falling and breaking my wrist coming into T2.

Honorable mention:  At the new SF Tri at Alcatraz last summer, had the 21st fastest split overall up the "sand ladder" (out of about 700).  Definitely didn't see too many other peeps running up that thing like I did.

Learned to swim at age 45

First in my age group (45-49) at last years Black Canyon Sprint Tri

Still not very fast, but I make up for it in determination!

My claim to fame is the best entrance to t2.

I was flying into transition at about 15 MPH when I hear the volenteers yell "Slow down you are going to crash". My first foot hit the ground 6 inches before the dismount line and and ran at full speed into t2. The Crowd standing by the t2 entrance started cheering and I was later told that "that was the fastest dismount into t2 that the had seen in all of the years he had been working the t2 area"

People seem impressed that I finished IMCdA after crashing on the bike at mile 67 and breaking my collarbone.

I've completed a brick session consisting of a 100 mile ride and 10 mile run or 56 mile ride and 15 mile run just about every weekend for an entire year on top of all my other training.  Basically my claim to fame is my yearly total mileage on the bike, run, and swim.  Also my claim to fame is participating in the sport without actually competing in races I need to pay money for.

In sprints, I have not been passed on the run.  Also in sprints, I believe everyone has passed me on the swim.

Did 4 sprints last season -my first - managed to take 2d in my AG in each race.  Nice and yet frustrating at the same time.

I was 3/268 out of the water in a sprint tri and won my AG (holding on for the win was the hard part). I came in 26th overall. The year before in the same race I was 3/328 out of the water, but only managed to be 2nd in my AG.

I was 4th out of the water out of 65 in my AG in a sprint last year, and managed to hold on for 10th in the AG. I also finished my first IM in 12:34 last year.

Triathlon claims to fame:

Father of three teenage sons who are willfully doing triathlons. Just acquired USAT memberships on the younger two, who are finally big enough to ride my road bikes.

Continue to be a positive active role model to friends and family.

Founding member of local triathlon club, administrator for the third year, helped it grow to 90 members last year with a USAT regional club championship.

Race director, Sugarman Triathlon, 300 participants and raised mucho dinero for charities.

USAT Cat 3 official.

"Podiumed" too many times to count, enough to realize that it's more about who shows up than how well I perform. My best triathlon performance *ever* got me only fourth in my age group, while some of my worst personal performances have resulted in age group wins.

No real claim to fame other than I've done seven IMs, one or two each year since my first in 2006.

Not fast, not slow.  Just steady.

I am not a strong bike rider, so I was very happy with a 3rd in my age group (45-49m) at an Olympic last year.

However, I think the thing I am most proud of is that my little boy is proud of me and looks up to me for doing triathlons.

That's me in reverse.

My claim to fame is winning my AG in the swim at four straight races.  And won my AG out of 19 at a 3.3 mile OWS race.

I had more medical assistance at the end of my HIM than I did at my last 3 births! (I birth at home with a midwife). The words you don't want to hear while seeing tweety birds... "Is she seizing?"

I was the 1988 Ironkids Overall National Champion

USA Triathlon had to change their age rule for the first world championships in Avignon, Fr when at 15 I beat all the 17-19 years olds in one of the junior national team world qualifiers

I led the Ironman World Championships in Kona as a pro.

I got to see parts of the world for free thanks to tri.

I had some great moments and races, of which only a very few were ever caught on video...like this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQ3bWEwghDI

I've qualified for Kona 5 times, raced it twice.

I got to train with the likes of Nick Radkewich, Becky Lavelle, Laura Bennett, Hunter Kemper, The Debooms, etc., roomed with Cameron Brown and partied with Macca, and learned volumes in the process.

I used to race Lance on a regular basis as a kid.

I owned the swim course record for 70.3 Buffalo Springs and the Wildflower Triathlon (HIM) for a number of years.

I'm all washed up now, but can still break 50 min in an Ironman swim.

I've won the swim leg twice.

Last season's swim placing's were 3/2/1/3/5

In my 2nd race I won the beginner male division (out of ~350)

I've averaged over 20mph on a bike with platforms (no toe clips)and running shoes.

I'm the fastest swimmer in my tri club

At my tri clubs mini race last weekend I was in first place after the bike was over

All of this occured while being well into the clydesdale division.

Despite being a, ahem, work in progress on the swim myself, I've successfully taught my two oldest sons, 6 and 9 to swim to the point where they think they want to do a kids tri this year.  I think I'm more excited about that than any past or future race of mine.

Otherwise, last year I placed in roughly the top 20 - 25% overall in all my sprints with a best of 6th in my AG in one, and finished my first Olympic.

My first tri was the Bud Light USTS race in Baltimore in 1988.  Me and Lance were the youngest competitors, the only 2 sixteen year olds in the race. I had never biked 25 or ran 6.2 before.   I did swim sub 19 without a wetsuit. Lance beat my by an hour. I have since taken 55 minutes off that time.

Took 15 years off to swim through college and then chain smoke

Returned to the sport in 2003 and won 20+ overalls since including sprints, olympics, running races, bike races and a couple aquathons. Nothing major.

Best of the US qualifier twice. Went once and got 13th with 3rd fastest bike split.

Recently 2 time overall Virgina State Time trial champion.  This was the best.  Nothing like a Cat 5 triathlete knocking off some Cat 1-2s, Kelly Benefit pros, etc... "Dave who?"

And finally learning to be a semi-decent runner.
