Best of luck to all BT-ers doing the Half tomorrow.  No fog and wetsuit legal would be nice and hope the rain stays away until you finish.  Bob

Oh, FYI, the run is hot and boring. Actually, the ride is hot and boring. But the run is more boring. And hotter. Didn't slow you down though lvis!

Nice race Alan, I followed your progress on the Live Race link (Bib Number 67).  I thought that the heat would affect everyone.  I'm nursing some injuries and hope to be competing starting in July.

What an experience for my first HIM.  Tough conditions with the heat.

Scottie, it was a pleasure meeting you right before the start of our wave and then to give you a little encouragement on the run course.

Weather almanac says last years race day high temp (may 7, 2011) was 77 degrees. This year, 91 degrees. Was anyone able to match or beat their times from previous years? Despite another year of conditioning and experience I was 1 min slower off the bike and 6 min slower on the run. This year KICKED MY !

It was indeed wetsuit legal! I was one of like 14 people who didn't suit up - didn't have mine with me...grrr!

I found it interesting that wetsuits were allowed (I wore mine).  It was so close that they wouldn't announce an actual temperature.  Official word was that water temp was "just below 78".  That was the case for both the Half and the Sprint.

USAT rules state that competitors may wear wetsuits if the water temperature is 78 degrees or lower.

I talked to Benji, the prior day it was 76 in the am and 78 by 3pm. I figure since we had a cooler evening that the water temp would have dropped a few for race morning.

Same for the sprint on Sunday - couldn't get anyone to give an official temp., but I talked to a guy (a competitor) who said that his wife measured it at 77 F with one of those IR devices.

Windier and choppier than for you guys, but at least we didn't have to deal with the heat!   Nice job all.

Everyone keep your fingers crossed that NC DOT does not run out of money....lots of road paving going on down here at White Lake.  Hwy 701 has been freshly paved and just talked to Benji Jones and he said they are paving the road around the lake.  Also, he **thinks** they are paving Hwy 53 as far as the money will let them...........

Let's also hope they move the race day, otherwise the participation will likely be way down due to the Raleigh 70.3

Why would participation be down? There is a month in between. Should be enough time to recover for those wanting to do both.

Because most people will choose one or the other, over 1900 in The Raleigh Half already

x2.  I agree....a very few will race WL Half and IM 70.3 Raleigh, IMHO.

ETA: I would not be surprised if Set Up Events has a little something up their sleeve...........

Hmmm...would be nice if set up bumped White Lake HIM up to an earlier date.  That would allow more time between White Lake and the Raleigh 70.3, and hopefully cooler temps   I'm probably just dreaming though.
