So for you veterans out there, I am constantly sore, what do you do about it? and if you're gonna tell me I just have to HTFU, well , that's the answer I'm expecting anyway.

Where are you sore/what is sore?

My first suggestion is a foam roller or Stick. I need to get better about using those BEFORE I get injured, but they have helped me tremendously in the past.

Other ideas are Bio Freeze, yoga/stretching, massage, and rest.

I personally don't think you should be sore 100% of the time - gotta give your body a chance to heal and recover before you can make more forward progress. But I'm no doctor or coach

Agh!!! Lisa, why , why do you have to bring up the foam roller, what did I ever do to you????

Yeah, you're right, for as much as I hate the roller, I feel a whole lot better after. Now all I have to do it find where I hid it.

devilfan02 - 2012-12-18 12:10 PMSorry to hijack your thread but how fast does this race usually sell out (both 70.3 and full)?  Seems like a great race to target in 2014.
THE 70.3 IS ALREADY SOLD OUT. IT SELL OUT VERY QUICKLY...LIKE IN 20 MINUTES. I DON'T THINK THE FULL SOLD OUT LAST YEAR.

The waiting list sold out on the same day as well on the 70.3

I just bought a foam roller.  I have never had ITB issues before, but it is killing me so I thought I would take the week off from biking and running and use the roller.  THAT SUCKER HURTS!  The roller is a torture device!  haha.  I guess I was hoping for a miracle cure and would instantly feel better.    Once I do...I'm going to hide or burn that thing!

I have been doing monthly massages and foam roller in between. Has really helped me especially with my calves. Going to con't both until race week.

Running didn't happen last week, but on Sunday I did a Jingle Bell Fun Walk with my dog  He's 12 years old and running is not his thing.  Got on the dreamill today for 6 miles...racing a "double" this weekend.  It's a 10k run, a quick break and a 5k run.  The faster you run the 10k, the more time you have between the 2 different runs.  Should be interesting.

Got in the pool 3 times last week!!

Just read your race report from last year.  Made me laugh and tear up.  Thanks for sharing it!  What hotel did you stay at?

Is anyone else training tomorrow? I've got a 1 hour trainer ride scheduled, maybe I'll turn on the lights on the tree and watch "It's a wonderful life" while I ride.

That sounds like a wonderful idea.  I did a 45 min. run in the rain.  Am suppose to swim 2500 continuous, but no pool today.  Will get it in sometime this week.

So what's everybody else got going on this weekend, I've got my first brick of the season planned, 3 hour bike and 25 min run.
The nice thing about living in Vegas is it's usually nice enough to train outside all year long, the bad thing is that it will still be cold enough that I'll be wondering what the heck I'm doing on a bike outside

Lol, no Lisa, you're not slacking. I have a half in April that I am training for , also I am really anxious about the bike portion. In my last attempt at a full, I completely screwed up my nutrition, and I crashed and burned for it. I don't want to make that mistake again, so even if I don't go fast , the goal is to go long and learn to eat and drink on the way.

I just finished a Very Hilly hour run (got me to 5 miles); 1 hr. 45 min. Bike tomorrow (on the trainer) and another 1 hour run on Sunday and a makeup swim. Some where in there I am suppose to do strength training? Right now it is off to tape and mud some drywall.

In as far as renting the house, i'd recommend forestille, rio nido or guerneville - all are super close to the starting line.

Anyone know about camping in the area?  I would probably get the best rest if I was able to haul my 5th wheel up there and sleep in my own bed.

Quite a few campsites are available along the river rd between forestville and guerneville. Some of them have RV hookups.

When I raced the full my coach had another athlete in Santa Rosa, and I stayed at his house.

Working hard to drop ~10 more lbs before getting into heavy training.
Anyone else have a weight loss goal for the off season?

Keep in mind these places are a bit further out, less restaurants, etc.  Also Guerneville is an "interesting" place....cute, tiny, town....think Deliverance meets The Castro District.

The race has 2 transition points and parking is usually not that bad on race day if you decide not to stay close to the swim start.  Even better if you have family with you, let them drop you close to transition while they find parking.

I am staying at the Flamingo and have a couple of people coming with me. So drop off at Transition while they find parking willbe so helpful.

Not really trying to lose any weight, I can't seem to eat enough to keep my weight when I'm training. This year it's more about eating smart through the day instead of eating junk and then eating like a madman after a training session
