New user![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First: Black Sabbath reunion tour 99 Favorites: Usually boils down to the smaller the better. The Vans Wapred Tour is a good time. My recent favorite was The Black Keys. I've also seen Mushroomhead dozens of times, but the fans have changed so I dont go anymore. Most disapointing: The Misfits around 2002. Biggest Suprise: Slitheryn, while opening for Mushroomhead, a band of 13 year olds killed it.

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First concert: Kiss, the Dynasty Tour at Madison Sq Garden in...going to guess 1978? It was pretty unbelievable. They were definitely at the height of their power at that point and the theatrics were amazing. Favorite Concert: Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, and the Grateful Dead at RFK stadium in DC in 1986. I wasn't (and still am not) a fan of Dylan or the Dead; I was mostly there to see Petty. It was easily 95 degrees and with that crazy 90% DC summer humidity. We had floor seats and got there really early to get up close. I had brought a big garden sprayer full of water (back when you could bring stuff like that into arenas) and kept us and other nearby fans cool in the heat. For which I was rewarded amply with food, drinks, and...other stuff. We got there at 10, the arena opened at noon, concert started at 2 and ended after dark. It was an amazing day. I get why people followed the Dead around the country. I don't know if it counts as a concert, but my favorite live music experience was going to see CSN at one of the very first tapings of MTV Unplugged-- probably91 or 92. We won tickets on the radio and sat up on stage right next to them. Inever saw the show (pre-DVR) I found a video of the show on YouTube and it was fun to see our much younger selves on tv. My girlfriend (now wife) stole one of Steven Stills' guitar picks off his mike stand when the show was over. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First concert was Van Halen in 1984. Several favorites out there - Pink Floyd in 1988 comes to mind as one. Just saw Rush last weekend for the first time since 1992. That's the 5th time I've seen them and they are still incredible!

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jmk- I just noticed your post above mine. I was at that same Petty/Dylan/Dead show at RFK! Good show but you're right, it was insanely hot. And if I remember right, Dylan had black leather pants on, how the heck did he not pass out from heat exhaustion? |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Springsteen, 1975, Born to Run tour in a small venue before he went big. I was lucky enough that my best friend's dad was a record executive who got us great tickets and convinced my parents it was safe for a group of 13 year olds Best concert is impossible to say, I've seen a lot of shows and many great ones. Hard to compare different types of music and venues. Bowie in 1977(?) was a mind blower for a 14-year-old, and they made a live album from that performance. I was at a rehearsal concert for Pat Metheny in a 100 seat auditorium and that was pretty amazing. Loudest concert was Todd Rungren at the Tower. My ears rang for days. Second was Neil Young, who absolutely rocked. I saw the Wall Tour last summer with my son, who wanted tickets for his 19th birthday. 9 rows back from center stage. Unbelievable experience. Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() scoobysdad - 2013-05-09 1:51 PM First concert? INXS opening for the Go-Go's at Summerfest in 1983. It was also among my favorites. The festival is outdoors and it had been raining all day long with extremely dark and threatening skies. It was doubtful the show would even go on as scheduled. Then just around the time the show was supposed to start, the clouds broke and a huge rainbow appeared directly behind the stage. It was magical. INXS was one also one of the greatest live acts in their day. They always gave it 100%. As for favorites, I have a few: Danzig in Madison in 1991. The original line up of Danzig were all incredibly talented musicians. I was jammed right up against the stage with a mosh pit roiling right behind me and the energy was just incredible. At one point, I have my hand up and Glenn Danzig came stomping over and accidentally flails his head right into my hand. After the show, I found some of his hair still tangled up in my ring. Later, SPIN magazine featured a huge photo taken at the show and I could make out my hand right next to Danzig's head right before the tangling incident. My other favorite was just last Fall, when I got to see my all-time favorite music artist, LLoyd Cole perform an acoustic solo performance at the City Winery in Chicago. The show was great, then afterward I had the chance to have drinks with him for over an hour and just talk music and life. Then my wife and I even got to give him a lift back to his hotel. Can't beat that. Wow... INXS in the 80's......that would have been really something. First concert. I think it was Larry Graham, SOS band, and Chic. (Chic was really good). Best concert: James Taylor in 1982 @ Carowinds Park in N.C./S.C. Airliner flew over as he spoke for first time and he said "we'll let the nuclear holocaust blow over". WTH ?? LOL... everybody went ape chit. Edited by tri42 2013-05-12 8:56 PM |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First concert: Alice Cooper in 1990 at the Fabulouis Fox in St. Louis, with Danger Danger as the opening act Favorite concert: Doro Pesch, that woman is hawt and still is. I've not been to many concerts, but have seen Marylin Manson, Metallica, Ozzy, Faith No More, Skid Row, Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Republica, and several second tier blues performers. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First (With Parents): Charlie Daniels Band on the Million Mile Reflections Tour. I was about 8. Devil Went Down To Georgia was a new song. First (Solo): 2 actually, since they were back-to-back. Van Halen (w/Hagar) on the OU812 tour on a Friday, then Robert Plant the next night. Ruined for life after that weekend. Favorite: Metallica, '92, LSU Pete Maravich Assembly Center. My ex and I won snake pit passes, and watched the show from the middle of the stage. I stood about 5 feet from Hammett's guitar tech. Amazing show. Amazing experience.
Recent surprise: Saw AC DC a couple years ago and they were way better than guys their age have any business being playing loud, hard rock. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First : New Kids On The Block, 1990. I was 11 and obsessed with Joey McIntyre. Best : honestly I probably had more fun at that show than any as an adult (been to Dave Matthews(meh), Indigo Girls (too preachy), and Mighty Clouds of Joy (for my mom). Call me what you will, but I'm not much for concerts. I'd rather listen to the radio. Of Montreal was very interesting, though. |

I saw them something like 5 -7 times after that - small venues around the country. I still consider them one of my favorite bands of all time. One of my favorite concerts was Bruce Springsteen that same summer at Alpine Valley. It was his Born in the USA tour and he played for over 3 hours. It was incredible! Another very memorable one was U2 in Tampa in late 2002 when did they did a tribute to 9/11. It was surreal to be listening to a band that pretty much played the background music to all of my college days while watching the names of some of my classmates scroll on the screen as victims of that day. (I just got chills again while typing it.) |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First... The Cure. I believe was 12 or 13 years old. The Best... Seeing Paul Van Dyk (a German DJ) in Ibiza, Spain. He played for a good 4 hours and I watched the sunlight stream through the ceiling windows. Amazing. Life changing. Honorable Mentions... Depeche Mode, New Order, and Morrisey. I haven't been into bands since I was 18/19 years old... so my "concerts" consist of going to see the DJ's I love at clubs and festivals. Edited by KSH 2013-10-15 12:47 PM |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() First: Steve Miller Band 1992 Best: Probably Metallica 1997 (the tour with the figure 8 stage, we were in the 8th row and it seemed like they played forever.) Some other notables: Springsteen solo and acoustic at the Cleveland Music Hall. KISS in full make-up, the experience itself was really cool, their music I can take it or leave it. Oasis, small venue, they put on a great show before Liam and Noel stopped talking to each other. I have been to a lot of great shows very few bad shows. I went to see Dave Mathews solo and since that concert I can't listen to any of their songs the whole way through. I don't know what it was, but the show just sucked. The crowd ruined it for me I think, a bunch of wannabe hippies spending their parents money. I said this in the thread I started about the winter concerts people are going to, but I really need to get to more live shows. Small venues, arenas and stadiums I love them all and am going to try to go to at least 1 a month going forward. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a very eclectic taste in music and having seen many different bands of all kinds of genres over the years.
I started out listening to rock and saw many great bands in the 80s and 90's including Kansas (my first show), Heart, Chicago, Beach Boys, Rod Stewart, Dave Mathews Band, Elton John, Billy Joel, Tori Amos, Sum 41, Breaking Benjamin and others. My favorite was when I scored 11th row center stages seats for Billy Joel/Elton John at the Citrus bowl in Orlando FL in the early 90's. It rained the entire time but the musicans made up for it by playing an awesome show. In the 90's I developed a taste for classical music and for a few years kept season tickets for the Orlando Philharmonic. I saw many great shows performed with them supporting world class soloists. My favorite classical show when I saw the St Petersburg, Russia Symphony perform Beethoven's 9th symphony Ode to Joy with the full choral backing. This ranks in the top 3 of all musical experiences I have had in my life. Then in the mid 90's I discovered electronic music. I have seen many many DJs since then at both big and small venues. Some of the best were/are DJ Icey, Baby Anne, Rabbit in the Moon, Tiesto, Arman van Burran, The Crystal Method, Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, Moby, Carl Cox, Deadmau5 and Ferry Corsten. This really just keeps going, there is hardly a DJ act I have not seen. My favorites small venue was Rabbit in the Moon. They were experimenting mixing DJ music with elaborate stages in the mid 90s before anyone. Large venue is no contest. The Ultra Music Festival. I have gone 6 times in total I would say my favorite was in 2009 when The Prodigy was there. They put on a epic show. Many festivals come up since then but they were the ones that made going to a EDM festival an Epic experience. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() First-- Phish Waterloo Village, NJ. Had to walk over a mile after we parked on the off ramp. After, people were hopping on cars to get back. Somebody got run over and died. Best--Hard to call it. Probably a Super Jam at a Berkfest: MMW, String Cheese, Moe, and DJ Logic. Kept building up the jam in the pouring rain. OR it was Soulive at a festival in my hometown. Musicians were just walking around the village like nothing. And little impromptu sets kept popping up all over. |
