Originally posted by Hot Runner Don't have any horse facts handy (will have to wait for Year of the Cat) but "chuc mung nam moi" (Happy New Year) from Vietnam! Spent most of the day cleaning the house--It's Chinese and Vietnamese tradition that you can't sweep or throw stuff out on the first days of New Years since it's really bad luck, so you have to get it done before! I think I should log all that scrubbing as strength training! It's been several years since I've stayed in country for Tet and can't remember how rowdy it gets at midnight--fireworks are banned but they were in China too and that never stopped anyone. But the neighborhood looks/feels empty--think most have gone home to somewhere else. Hoping to celebrate with some time in the (bike) saddle tomorrow!

Ha!  I've done that before... I think under the "Home Improvement" label.  I figure that if it makes you sweat, you get to count it!

oMG yes. Horses have to be trimmed every 8 weeks and in the summer when the hooves grow faster 4-6. Add shoes and we're looking at $250 a pop. My horse gets more shoes and manicures than I do.

Yay!  It's nice to know I'm NOT delusional about this, but dayuuummmmm... $250 a pop?  Wow!

a farrier? not a hoofer or shoe(er)? Does that include a custom paint job too?

The depth of my hatred towards Chase bank can not be measured. I've been at this since September 3rd. Seriously. And it's been kicked back again for more information.

A pretty calm start to the Year of the Horse here. Three or four attempts at fireworks in the 'hood, squelched by security on motorbikes. But all the boats in the harbor blew their horns for several minutes at midnight. (I live near the port.), and what sounded like all the churches in town rang their bells at sunrise. Had the industrial park pretty much to myself for my morning ride--unfortunately quite windy in a Kona-like way--seemed to always be a headwind no matter which way I turned, and of course no motorbikes to draft!

Good morning friends - any big plans for the Supa-Bowl? Parties? Good food?
Think we are just going to watch at home and make some queso or something. Wild.

Since the game starts just past midnight here good chance I'll be awake for the second half haha...

Rest of the weekend dinner with friends at the local Mexican restaurante tonight, a bike ride on Saturday, pick daughter up at airport Saturday night returning from The Hague (note to self do not forget this), Sunday a run and grocery shopping... 1 hour and 45 minutes to go and counting.

There's a Velveeta shortage going on. Might have to go to guac or salsa. Just making you aware....

We stay at home and enjoy the game and commercials. We both watch the game and the commercials, so it's better if we don't have distractions. I can't stand people talking/conversating during a game that I want to watch. The last party we went to, none of the ladies wanted to watch the game, and Annie felt obligated to hang with them....she kept coming over and asking about the game, texting me to rescue her, etc.

Plus, with two small ones, one that goes to bed at 7 and the other at 8, it's easier to stay at home, pause the TV when needed, etc.

We're doing skillet queso, loaded bean dip, pizza rolls, stuffed jalapenos, and chicken salad....and beer

I'm planning a Trainer Ride around the whole event. Tempo during the game and sprints at the commercials. I'll only quit when the winning QB says something about going to an amusement park. my food will be gel packs.

Wow, now that's the way to fight the Blerch on one of the great over indulgence days in American culture!

I plan to do an 8 mile run in the morning then spend the rest of the day cooking and eating terrible food at my friends annual SB party.

Picking up our new bikes (cruiser for me, new tri bike for Tony), most likely taking them home either on the train or in a ZipCar as there's NO WAY I want to ride any distance in freezing temps, other stuff, then to the local sports bar to watch the game with the Crownys!  Food will be bar food, and most likely whiskey as I don't like beer.

What is up,with that? Even news casters don't have the expressed, written consent of the National Football League to utter the words, "Super bowl".

Oh crap, guys from that van outside are storming the house. Gotta go....
