Master 1790 | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May journey - 2007-05-03 4:15 PM Just wondering is it too late to join the chalenge Nope, journey, come on in. You'll be starting the challenge on Sunday. Just post your goals for next week, and I'll post a new chart later to see if there are any others who want to come in. I have a 65 mile bike and a 9 mile run to get done this weekend Yowsers! Best of luck. I'm thinking about attempting a 35-40 mile ride (would be my longest in recent years), but I'm hesitant because none of my family or friends would be around to pick me up if I had a mechanical problem. I'm not the most mechanically inclined. I can change a flat Edited by Offthegrid 2007-05-04 7:12 AM |

Expert 783 Spokane, Washington | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Ack! Friday morning already - what happened? This week I: Ran 3X (one was a short transition run, still hope to get one more in) Next week I will be on Vacation, so my goal is to work out only if it won't impact my family at DISNEYLAND! From previous experience, my feet may be too tired/sore to run, but I'm going to take my stuff. I'll be back on schedule the following week. Have a great week, ladies! Good job so far! |

Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May I think I was overzealous this week with my planned w/o's. My PT advised me to stay off my leg so no biking or running this week. But I did manage to get in a few goods swim sessions. I really really enjoy swimming. Anyway I'll be doing my first organized road thingy and longest distance to date this weekend: 38 miles w/ 2000ft elevation! There are some nasty climbs, but my goal is to finish the thing. I'm sure in a few months I'll be saying "oh, pfft 38 miles, lets do that x 3" but right now, my heart is racing. Have a good wknd! |

Kristen Wow! It's Friday afternoon and I've already hit my goals...if this were a more cut-throat challenge, I'd worry y'all would think I'm sandbagging. I'm soooo having a good week. If all goes well, I'm going to the gym to bike for a little this afternoon (have the kidlets home with me this afternoon, so I can't get outside). Tomorrow, I have at least a swim on. Good luck, ladies! Kristen |

Expert 1022 In limbo | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May lil_turtle - 2007-04-25 7:19 PM Run x3 This is a rough week for me....very busy with school work and today I woke up with worse cramps than I've had in years!!! Once a month I hate being female!!! I usually get semi bad cramps but these ones are near bringing me to tears horrible and I can barely even sit up. So it's snuggle w/heat pad day today instead of working out. I've gotten 1 run day and 1 bike day in so far.....tomorrow will be a run day (my race! Yay! hopefully i won't be in so much pain tomorrow) and i'll try to squeeze something in a swim on sunday so I can get everything but the third run day in. Ugh. For now the mere thought of running is painful! (sorry but I figure here is one of the few places I can whine about this. Thanks girls! |

Veteran 183 Manor, Texas | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May I can't get as many workouts as I want this week. I'm working double shift at my job. My boss is on vacation so I'm having to pull for him being gone. It's been raining cats and dogs. I'm crumpy. But I'm hitting the gym after work to get in a swim and do some situps. I've also been walking alot at my work. So that's gotta count too. Everyone is so inspiring. This is such a great thread. Go Get'em Athena's!!! |

Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May lil_turtle - 2007-05-03 5:56 PM Nancytris - 2007-05-03 6:55 PM WAy cool!! I have posted my week so far. There is not a place for Yoga, so I put it under strength training -- which it doesn't look like I will be getting to this week!!! Recap goals: swim x3; bike x2; walk x3; strength x2; yoga x1; rest somewhere! I won't make strength this week, and probably not a rest day although I kind of think of yoga as rest if I don't do something else that day (this week I walk and yoga same day) Thanks again for doing this. Nancy Way to go! You can actually log yoga as a sport...look in the list of sports and yoga should be in there. It will show up as "sport" time on your graph but on your time for the month thing and in your log it will list it as yoga. Thanks, I will go check out sports and yoga on the log. I have to report that I did not get in my third swim this week -- my body just said no! |

Master 1790 | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Cadreamer, you are SUCH an inspiration. C.O.N.G.R.A.T.U.L.A.T.I.O.N.S. A half-mary. That's amazing. You are my hero! I have big news, too: today I jogged 5 miles. My previous longest jog was 3.6 miles but that was with a walking break. Although I did stop to get Rita's at the 3-mile mark today. This has gotten me to think half-marathon, baby. Disney? Hmm... I want to go on a long bike tomorrow, but not sure how the newer saddle will treat me. I met my athena goals this week and threw in one weight training session. I will say several times the alarm clock went off very early in the a.m. and I did NOT want to get up but thinking about all the athenas in this challenge helped get me out of bed. Anyhow, next week I have an all-day drill at work that's going to mess with my bike commuting schedule. My goals are: Run 3 times Bike at least 2 times, preferably 3 if it's not raining Wednesday Swim 1 time Weights? Should, but I'll only be able to squeeze it in if it's raining Wednesday and I skip the bike commute. |

Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Reporting in: Last Week's goals (4/29-5/5) Swim 3x -- Actual 2x; Walk 40 minutes 3x --Actual 3x; Bike 2x -- Acutal 2x (1 Spin, 1 outdoor); Yoga 1x -- Acrtual 1x; Strength 2x -- Actual 0x Not bad fot the week, but am a little disappointed to have "slept throug" one of my early morning swims! And just had not time for strength training -- having a hard time fitting this all in. New Week's Goals (5/6-5/12: Swim 3x; Walk 40 minutes 3x; Bike 2x; Yoga 1x for an hour; Strength 1x; Rest 1 day I will work on getting in that one rest day as I ended up being tired, and feeling a little stale. Need refreshing rest I think. As most, I have a very hard time taking a rest day even though I KNOW how important it is and how much it helps my performance. So I will prioritize that for this week! Have fun this week everyone, Nancy |

Master 1790 | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Hey athenas, There is apparently a new book out detailing research on why it is so hard for obese people to permanently lose weight. It confirms what I am experiencing right now: The more weight I lose, the harder and harder it is to lose a smaller and smaller amount of weight. I started a thread with the article if you'd like to read it. |

Elite 3020 Bay Area, CA | Subject: RE: *new* Athena challenge for May Ok, my plan for the week is to recover from the 1/2 marathon. Still feeling it a bit. So, I will workout but mostly swimming/biking and only easy stuff most likely. I'm going to just base this week on how I feel. |
