Regular 57 Boulder, CO | Subject: RE: Ford Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread running2far - 2011-08-01 10:35 AM PrudenceR - 2011-08-01 10:55 AM It will be posted in the Athletes guide that will be published at months end. You need to start the second loop of the bike by 3:30 (I think could be totally wrong on the time, but the location is correct). The mid bike cutoff is set so that there is no possible way for you to make it in time. You would something like 2 hrs to cover 56 miles. Can anyone give me information about specific times and locations for cutoffs on the IM MOO course? I know the swim is 2:20 time elapsed, and you have to be off the bike course by 5:30pm (this latter is actually on the Web site). However, I know that there's at least one more bike cutoff mid-course, and there are a couple of run cutoffs, and I can't find any information about those... I'm on a team (Team WILD: Women Inspiring Life with Diabetes), and 11 of us are doing IM MOO this year (tell us to 'Go WILD!' out on the course) -- want to share this info with the team for those who need it. If I know about where the cutoffs are, and I'm close, I won't, for instance, stop to check my blood sugar until _after_ I make it past that mid bike cutoff! :-) Thanks Last year's Athlete's Guide did _not_ include information about intermediate cutoffs. So I sent an email to the the WTC and they had the race director answer me: Bike course at the start of the second loop – 1:00pm approx. mile 55 This is really valuable information to me personally, as it tells me the first half of my bike will need to be speedier than the second half. (I expect to start the bike at 9:05am)

Member 51 Cincinnati, OH | Subject: RE: Ford Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread PrudenceR - 2011-08-05 11:28 PMLast year's Athlete's Guide did _not_ include information about intermediate cutoffs. So I sent an email to the the WTC and they had the race director answer me: Really, 1:00pm for the mid-point bike cutoff?? That worries me somewhat. I don't expect to be at the tail end of that, but I am a slow swimmer and am planning on the safe side to be on the bike by 9:15am. That means I'd better keep moving to hit the midpoint at 1:00. For some reason, that cutoff seems to be at least an hour ahead of where you would think. Realizing this came from the race director, does anyone else have any experience with this one? I'd hate to hammer the first half of the bike if I didn't need to. Bike course at the start of the second loop – 1:00pm approx. mile 55 This is really valuable information to me personally, as it tells me the first half of my bike will need to be speedier than the second half. No IMWI for me. 25 weeks of training for nothing, and 8 weeks of inactivity in my future so I can sit around, put on weight and get out of shape. Plus, I'm past the date for a partial refund. Sorry to complain, just have to vent. I'll be thinking about you guys on Sept. 11. Enjoy the day, and know that when it gets tough out there, it could be worse - you could be home on the couch wishing you were there! ugg this sucks! Hope you heal fast. |

Regular 200 Stoughton, WI | Subject: RE: Ford Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread From reading other's past race reports, isn't there a tail on people that are close to not making the cut-off? Keep away from the tail! I do have to agree though. If you make the swim cut-off and it takes you 8 hours on the bike. Assuming you really don't stop -- you could still make the bike cut-off. It should be 1:30 or 2 I would think. What if you are really fast but have a mechanical issue? There really is so much you could freak out about - just do your race and try not to worry about what lies ahead. You have to be present in the moment or your race will fall apart.

Apparently Vision Quest was in touch with them to coordinate support. Maybe VQ was getting other requests for help. Anyway, many thanks for your help. I'm going to be able to ride the 112 as it is supposed to be ridden now. Big deal to me. I've just been riding the loops up to now because that's what groups were doing. I've seen the stick on my Computrainer which is great but the real-life experience can't be beat. Sorry I didn't get back to you! Hope you had a good ride? I was there in my donkey jersey! |

I saw you! I was in a yellow livestrong running outfit coming back from my run in the parking lot. You were on the phone. Noticed the Democrat jersey. Right on. I had a good ride. That was good of the club to let us tag along. I rode out, did two loops and then found my way back in. All good. Thanks. |

I wasn't aware of that either. Not going to be pretty. I was hoping to be able to ride both loops about the same power to pace., make it to the run with lots of time left and run/walk the marathon. I thought the cut offs were 2:20 on the swim, the 9:30 swim and bike. |

Now that you've ridden the "stick", interested in your perspective on how important you feel that section is to ride? Just like you I've ridden the loops a few times, but have yet to ride ( or drive ) the out/back section. How does that hill on the return compare to the loop hills? Good luck w/ your last big training week. |

Not sure if that is a result of location and excitement of getting to the run or if it is really simply easier. That being said, it is always good to have that ride of the "stick" in to know what is coming and where to give that extra little "push" to carry a hill etc... I'm a believer is riding the whole course. |

I have seen the elevation profile but just want an actual number. Just the elevation gain..not elevation change. I have seen some websties put it at 4500 and others at 7500..I was wondering if one was gain and one was change. Thanks a ton. |

Veteran 118 Skokie, IL | Subject: RE: Ford Ironman Wisconsin : Official Thread For those who did the Dairlyland OWS swim and clinic last week, how did that work out? Can you get on the course right at 8 or even earlier. I had already plannned to do a swim in Monona and ride the whole course next Sunday with my sister-in-law before I found out about the Dairyland event. We were just going to have my brother spot us in his kayak, but this sounds easier and better and I don't really mind the 20 bucks, but I don't want to be hanging around all morning to get out there, in fact I would prefer to be in the water around 7:30. Any feedback from those who just did it is appreciated, did you just swim the course or did you hang around for the clinics, etc. |

I am sure if they are ready to take your $$ and sign your waiver you can get out there even a little earlier. Very low key, but it gives you a great perspective on what the course will look like (minus a few spotter buoys). I'll be there for sure. |
