DAYUM - everyone has waaaaaaay more pairs of shoes than I've got... I've got ONE pair that I wear at the moment. Sad, I know.

Ben:  Yes, I clearly need red running shoes, though I'm pretty sure they would do nothing do help my speed, I run like I'm attached to a cinder block

Debi:  so very sorry to hear of your loss - the furry kids never live as long as we'd like them to.

Erin:  I like tri shorts, but everyone's different (and, of course, if you want any Betty gear I can help you out with a 10% discount)

TJ:  I'm totally judging you on the "veggie" sandwich.

Sooooo, any word on the job situation???

Eeeek - sorry, I totally forgot!

I have a Skype interview set up for Monday morning at 9:30 with the partner who will ultimately say yea or nay.  WOOT!

Way COOL!!!!!!!!!!!

Well as everyone (else) knows, you need the run shoes to match the bike. So either you need some new run shoes, or maybe a new bike.

I vote for new bike!!!

But... my racing kit is pink and black, so I don't know that the red would go?  I guess I just have to buy some new shoes to find out... lots and lots of new shoes.

Ha, Ha, that is quite some sandwich. The only things I could eat from it are the bread, lettuce and sunflower sprouts

Pink has a lot of red in it? Not entirely sure how far off this can go and stay effective.

Thought you had mentioned the potential of discounts around when you got on the team?

And poor TJ, makes an innocent post having no idea it would cause her to become today's sacrificial ... celery?

I've come to the realization looooooong ago to realize who the hell cares what the model looks like, get what you like in the size that you are and ROCK IT!

TJ, TJ, TJ, you need to pay more attention.  I saw that Betty option months ago.  Why do you think I have the World Champion tri suit on my goals list?!  As sooon as I bike 12 miles, that baby is MINE!  Just missed it by 0.3 mi. the other day but already had my bike in the house when I realized I'd pulled up short.  I've been going back and forth between the 1 piece and the 2 piece, in case anyone has any opinions.... (not that I think anyone would have opinions in this group )

Ha! Funny.

As for 1 piece or 2.... I've worn both to races. In a one piece I felt like a sausage, but it didn't have the cool chevron's that this one has. Also, a two piece is more convenient for... um.... port-a-potty use.

I'm impressed by your self control. Calling it a no-go for .3 miles is impressive!

Kirsten - I'm officially stalking you via IMTrakr.

TJ - yup, I decided to ride.  DH is really gung-ho on wanting to do the ride and since he's not as independently operating as myself, I decided to do the ride with him, plus, there's ice cream, plus this ride is special in my heart because it's the first of such activity I ever did when biking and I got reacquainted.  Someone at my old job (who himself was incredibly overweight and out of shape) told me I couldn't ride 20 miles (they have a 6, 20 and 51 mile option).  Come h3ll, highwater, or hurricane I was going to ride 20 miles if it killed me, on my knobby-tired crazy hybrid to boot.  And I did, and I loved it!  On the ride a stranger befriended me and said I should get a road bike, it would be so much faster and easier.  For the ride next year I had a new road bike and did the 51 mile option.

Debi - ((hugs))  I'm so sorry to hear about Kirby.  Pets are so special.

But I'll be spending a lot of time on the trainer and we're getting back on the road again now that J has his bike built, so the extra padding could be nice.

Oh, and since the birthday tooth, I'm working on a budget...so I can't buy both.

I use bibs & suits, no shorts. Don't like the waistband. So I use the cycling bibs everywhere that's not a race. If the tri shorts are comfy, then go ahead and get another pair to train in. Does more extensive use of them cause issues?

My 2xu shorts have a nice waistband...half the reason I find them so comfortable. I've not had any issues with them and they seem to be holding up well.

I like riding in tri shorts, I rather prefer the lighter padding. The down side is that they will wear out faster with regular use so wouldn't last as long for racing. I have a pair of DeSoto tri shorts that I got from the clearance rack that are my favorite pair of bike shorts. I think I also wore them for my first tri this year. Sooooo I vote tri

I have 2xu shorts that I love. And I see tons of good reviews on the DeSotos. When I try on the bike shorts...well, they feel so bulky. But I know the bulk is there for comfort. I haven't had any issues with the tri shorts up to our 70ish mile rides. Guess that may change as we build up our rides again.

Purely for potty purposes... I like the 2 piece for longer distances, but I tend to use a 1 piece for anything shorter than HIM distance.  I LOVE the chevron design, so I'll probably get the 2 piece to wear for training.

Purely for potty purposes... I like the 2 piece for longer distances, but I tend to use a 1 piece for anything shorter than HIM distance.  I LOVE the chevron design, so I'll probably get the 2 piece to wear for training.

Hmmmm.  I like the way you think.  I was planning on the 1 piece for my race, and then I could to set some new goals to earn the 2-piece....

Unlike my numerous shoes, I have mtb shorts for trail riding, an old pair of pearl izumi bike shorts for on the trainer, and when we do road rides I've been wearing my tri shorts. Q: Which should I get, another pair of bike or tri shorts? I'm leaning towards tri because they're comfy and one of my goals is to get better at running off the bike (i.e. no shorts changing). But I'll be spending a lot of time on the trainer and we're getting back on the road again now that J has his bike built, so the extra padding could be nice.

Oh, and since the birthday tooth, I'm working on a budget...so I can't buy both.

GOODY

You can get brand-name, quality tri AND cycle shorts on chain reaction cycles dot com, swim outlet dot com, sierra trading post dot com, and tri sports dot com for a total of $60.

Alternately, I'm happy to part with my SOAS tri shorts so you can splurge on a pair of good cycle shorts. I've worn them 2x (never peed in!) and they're size L (which in SOAS as you know is more like size M). I like longer shorts and these are mid-thigh.

Erin, shorts seem to be a point of concern for many people. If you find one you like, get a few if possible, the manufacturer will change them eventually. That said, I have recently gotten a pair of Speg bibs from a guy in town. Inexpensive, comfortable and they seem to be holding up pretty well. They are online http://www.cycle-clothing.com/  If possible, you may want to try bike shorts and tri shorts, one for training and one for racing, like Ben mentioned. You don't want to wear out your racers during training.

WELCOME RORO

I noticed you didn't admit to knowing me, but I don't blame ya either

I wondered about the connection

Welcome Ro!!!!!!!!!!! BTW I LOVE that you are a Bible translator!!!!!!!!!!! So cool! If you need help with accountability, this is the group to do it (in love, of course)

She is insanely smart but stupid humble. It ain't just one language she's translating ... and she's creating dictionaries and apps and all sorts of cool stuff.

She does, however, need some serious stalking and nagging in terms of doing strength training. Post-meno female with osteopenia. Let the accountability commence.

P.S. None of you will believe this, but she is in fact crazier than I am. I have proof.

She needs to open her training log to us so that we can harass inspire her!

I'll harass her about her log tomorrow so that we can all harass her. It's past midnight her time. Oh yeah, someone else explain the inspire system because I'll forget. She gets how to inspire other people but not how to reply to inspires.

So she's not the insomniac you are?

No, but like me she's not a morning person either. Tomorrow at FIVE FACHIN' STUPID THIRTY O'CLOCK is the first training session with the traveling team for Indonesia Masters. We'll see if I make it ... ha ha ha.

You can DOOOOOO EEEEEEET, then go for a donut  Can you find those there?

How else do you think we bribe Indonesian cops? *ducking and running*

I do actually know three people who have done it. I may or may not have been one of those people. I may or may not have a photograph of alleged cop standing outside alleged Dunkin' Donuts waiting for his treat.

Funny, i hate that stereotype... but I do love donuts  Maybe I hate the stereotype of the fat lazy cop eating donuts... though I know they exist

Sooooo contemplating upgrading my Iphone 4s to a 5s. Best Buy is running a sale so the 5s would only cost me $50, plus probably another $35 to switch the service (thanks Verizon). However, my cords would no longer work and my Mophie would no longer work because Apple went away from the traditional charge thingy on the bottom with the 5.

I hadn't planned on upgrading but I broke the back glass on my 4, so it's covered by the Mophie, and there are days (like today) that it's being cantankerous.

Thoughts?

Get a Galaxy S5.

^^^^This

Same price and I'd have to deal with conversion nonsense

Guess you're stuck with iphone

I learned in this race that in order to finish the swim, you have to know where you are going. And in order to know where you are going, you have to learn to sight.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
