DougRob - 2010-09-23 9:44 AM Hey Suzy: I thought it was really interesting that you were 7th OA in passing people (you passed 719 people on the run)! Only 6 people passed more than you! Puts your effort into amazing perspective. something to keep in mind when we're pedaling away on sunday. |

Master 2501 | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! Jim Steen, the swim coach at my college (Kenyon) is retiring from coaching the women's team after this season (he'll still coach the men's team). He is an amazing coach -- the Kenyon swim teams have won more NCAA titles than any other team or division in any sport -- 31 consecutive years for the men, 23 non-consecutive years for the women. Yes, they are Division III, but to me that only makes the accomplishments more impressive (no athletic scholarships). In any case, I had the priviledge of swimming under him for 4 years (yes, we won NCAAs all of those 4 years). Anyway, there is a big celebration this fall for his retirement and we've made a Facebook page with photos and are currently putting up "Steenisms" each day -- quotes that he'd use during a season. I need to go through my old workout books and find some of his quotes to submit, but I really liked today's quote. Use it!! "Keep something in the back pocket. Never put it all out there before the championship meet. You want to build up that big something that no one knows about during the year and hang onto it until the last meet. That's when you drop it all on the line and set the water on fire." |

It is a 6 hour drive from Raleigh. What does Linda (Havin' Fun) say? I have two kids 10 and 12 and we tried going to a race together and it messed with my focus. (All of them expected me to handle everything for them and I was busy trying to organize and then execute a race). So I would hav to do this solo. I'll give it more thought after the weekend. I now have the added pressure of knowing that you all are going to follow us on Sunday! That is going to make my slow run worse! (Or I might just have to do well. There is always a first! Run-wise that is). |

Extreme Veteran 689 | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!! ok i need to vent a little. As some of you know we just completed a beautiful renovation on our new condo and have been living there since the end of July. A few weeks ago we notice our brand new wood floors starting to warp in our office, we notified our contractor and the super. They found out that there was a leak due to a clog in pipes in a wall. It's been almost 2 wks and it seems like the moisture in the floor and the walls are still there and it looks as if it spread into our closets. They tested 2 of our bathrooms and there is some moisture in the grout there too. So now they think there may be a leak elsewhere. They may not want us to use 2 of our bathrooms for a few wks. Also they may need to go through our bathroom walls.. did i tell you we have custom tile in our bathrooms that took forever to order.. What a headache. |

Hope things get fixed for you in a hurry. Be sure that before you sign off on anything that they check for mold. As long as this has been going on you are likely to have some growing somewhere because of all the moisture. |

Contact your insurance company right away and figure out what they cover relating to leaks, etc. We did a huge remodel about 5 years ago, then had a tree fall on our house about a year later. Ugh. THEN we noticed a leak awhile ago... finally had it checked out, and it had been leaking for at least 2-3 years. Failed shower pan in the master bath, potentially caused by the impact of the tree. Long story short, total remodel of bathroom again (tile, floor, etc -- fortunately not cabinets and such), but insurance is covering, and we also took the opportunity to tweak some things we didn't like initially. Sucks, though. Huge suckage. |

I was super busy yesterday getting a pedicure so my toes will look super pretty when I wear my sandals at my cousin's wedding in MAUI!!!!! this weekend! Good luck to all of the racers, looks like everyone is ready, especially j.o.h.n.!!! I meant to wish Tony well on his 10k, I want to see how you do!!! You will certainly beat my p.r. and then you have to go get my marathon p.r. after that! You have gotten super fast! 10k's are so hard for me...it is surely a mental thing. I am looking for a 10k to run prior to the Vegas Half. Stan, sorry about all of the frustration with your remodel. Hope they can resolve the issue soon and save the beautiful hardwood floors!!! aiyah. This, from my blog this morning. I think I need to remember to eat something either before swimming or before running, so I won't be so clumsy.

Oh no!!! How will you look super girly if you have road rash? I mean it's not like you can wear pants in Maui!! But more importantly, should you really be wearing heels if you are doing the Boston marathon? They shorten your calves and wreak havoc on your achilles! I'm telling. |
