It was an enjoyable bit of conversation to read as I finish a lengthy Monday at work.

Almost time to cook up some Brats'n'Beer and watch some (DVR-delayed) Monday Night Football!

Wow I'm sorry you feel this way about your contributions.

I had no idea my little TAN rant would result in such a detailed analysis/conversation!

Why?  Not sure why you would feel sorry for me or sorry I don't feel the the same way as you - as long as I'm happy with MY life, that's all that should matter, no?  Would I be happier if I told myself I (or my work) was more valuable?  Maybe.  I look at my friends, family, and wonderful wife and feel SO blessed and happy - that's my gauge.  I think of all the most happy times in my life and it was my vacations with my wife - just being with her.  Nothing I did for work comes CLOSE to that.

Should I feel my contributions are superior than the homeless guy?  I'm not better than him in the history of the world or in God's eyes.  We will both be dust in a short time.  I guess SOCIETY might value me more - which goes back to the flea analogy.  As long as we can both can bring some happiness to others - is all that matters to me.  Not accomplishments or job or money, etc.  I TRY to establish value to people based on how they make me feel, or treat others, or bring happiness.  It's hard to avoid it, but I try to NOT establish value by society gauges such as education, salary, type of work, religion, race, sex or whatever litmus test people like to "rank" other people.

If you are good to people?  You are good in my book.

I think we are talking about some very different things.
Peace.

We must be - not sure how I got sidetracked.  It thought we were talking abut assessing someones value to the world and it appeared to be based on education or salary or job/employment - specifically, some uneducated, unemployed (in the conventional sense), girl you know that is taken care of by your rich friend.  That's not what I personally gauge value - so I guess It's just my personal spin on it.  But hey, if we all thought the same, how boring a world would it be!

I have worked hard to move up the "corporate ladder" with limited education.  I am currently a "Plant Manager", but would be just as happy doing art work and having a big enough garden to sell vegetables at Farmer's Markets.  I don't care what you do in life, as long as you treat others well and have a good time doing it.

Training our bodies to work efficiently in Zone 2 will help us keep our HR and pace even throughout an Ironman. This theory would hold true for the bike and run portion of an Ironman race.
