After some treacherous swims this summer, the current doesn't bother me and even unclear water is something I can live with.  The snake thing??? well, that same rumor was all over the IM WI forum and as someone who grew up on the Madison lakes, I never saw one...muskrats, ducks and geese? that's another story.   And even if a few are around, I highly doubt they will be interested in hanging out with a whole slew of swimmers.

Come on Doug, say YES!

Sounds like that Adventure race is calling my name again!

Suzy:Despite what John said, I will NOT commit at least until my left hamstring stops screaming at me, and probably not until I get from Munich October 13. I leave sunday for a 10 day business trip.

Tracy is a very strong probably.  Even if I don't race my husband probably will.  He is looking for an early season race.  I have to see what my coach will say.  Because next year it is all about what ever Yoda says.  Maybe the olympic, but to be honest, sitting on the sidelines with John drinking beer sounds GOOD!!!!   We would make great cheerleaders.  I use to be one remember - I'll teach John a thing or two.

So talk to me about the course.  I don't want to watch the movies now and am too lazy to read race reports. Is it hilly?  TRACY MUST CLIMB - GGGGRRRRR!!!!

I did the Olympic last year

The swim is in the Tennessee river.  You swim up-stream briefly then down-stream for the majority of the swim.  There must have been a decent current I swam 1:38/100 and thought I had a horrible swim.

Hop out of the water and run up a dock into transition.  They use boxes instead of racks, last year your name and number is printed on a laminated sheet (I took mine after the race was over).

Bike out is pretty flat for maybe 1/2 mile then there are some short steep climbs through campus.  Then you roll out into the country, up the side of a couple hills, long climbs, not super, super steep but long.  then back into town, I think this was my slowest MPH all year, but I was just learing how to use my PM on hills then so might have ridden a bit to conservatively.  Next year though I will have a bigger cassette for this ride for a bit more gearing going up the hills. 

The only thing I really didn't like about the bike is a lot of the turns going down hill were around blind turns, the foliage stuck out in the road a bit so you couldn't see the road ahead.  I believe a couple people ran into cars during the race. 

Run is pretty uneventful, flat out of transition, up a small hill then down some stairs (kind of strange) down a hill then out onto a multi-use trail, out and back type thing, back up stairs back past transition and up some ramps into the finish, big finish area with huge screen showing you crossing the line.

One other cool thing about transition is that not being a huge race the pro's are right next to you, they have a little section near the front with their pictures and names right behind their bike.

That's awesome!  When you say do the race with her, I assume that means you will be there as a spectator and coaching her from the sidelines correct?

it has just been brought to my attention by a fellow mg'er (the one with little boobs) that today is NATIONAL DRINK A BEER DAY!!!!!!!

You're going to have to narrow it down more than that for us.  We are triathletes remember.  I believe they are called aero boobs in the Birdy house.

And (while maintaining plausible deniability), there may or may not be men in the group who resemble this remark as well...

I will be the first to raise my hand to say I didn't make the remark although I would qualify under John's description.

Re: Lava Magazine... yes, I am getting it. Have not spent a ton of time with it but I will say the production level and photography are beautiful. In general triathlon magazines overwhelm me a bit, because I'm just not into the geeky bike technology stuff (mabye I should be?). Just noticed a new (2nd?) issue in my pile, so maybe I can spend some time with it later!
