I want to add something to my streak-green smoothies in the morning.

I had a friend have a C-T-J talk with me about goals last night.  She was brutally honest.  I need to lose weight.  I am going to see how much I can lose in 8 weeks as part of my base building/prep for MCM training.  Focus!!  Green smoothies are my breakfast weapon.

Jo, I love that you are working on your mind as much as your body in your build to MCM. I think it is one tool that I have not trained nearly as well as I could. Well see this weekend for me.

I need to get on trainer, but wanted to throw this out before I forgot to ask.

Has anyone had odd reactions to chlorine? I had my swim last night, and shortly after I got home my nose was running uncontrollably and I was sneezing like crazy. It was so bad I couldn't lean over my daughter's crib to put her to sleep without grabbing one of her shirts to plug my nose. When I went to bed I stuck tissue up my nose...and was still sneezing. I think I netted 2-3 hours sleep.

I know I have allergies, but they've been better the last week, and this reaction only started after swimming. It hasn't continued throughout today even though I've been outside for several hours. I also noticed the pool guy was just leaving as we checked in at the gym. Lots of times my nose is runny after a swim, but this was ridiculous...and the sneezing became painful.

When I swim at the gym, I have "swimmer's nose" for hours.  When I swim at the aquatics center, no post swim dripping/blowing (and my hair is less straw-like).

Yes, most times when I'm done swimming my nose is a wreck.  I've found blowing my nose ASAP (like as soon as I get out onto the pool deck, they have boxes of tissues there) and showering ASAP (in the locker room at the pool) and breathing in some of the steam through my nose seems to help a little bit.  Some days are worse than others, don't know if it is varying chlorine levels or me.

I don't have much to do for a couple of weeks so I signed up for a Red Cross lifeguarding course.   This afternoon was the pre-test and consisted of a 300 yard swim, a two minute treading water with legs only and a 20 yard swim and dive for a 10 lb weight  and return 20 yards with it.

Let's just say the teenagers were in awe of me.

The things we do when we are bored.....    Cool

Artemis - 2013-05-09 6:30 PM Salty, the Starbucks Lime Refreshers are super addictive.  I think there is crack in them.  Also, the VIA packs of it aren't as good.  Adding some extra lime slices helps, but there's something different in the store version.

Not being a coffee fan, I don't get to Starbucks often.  Are the Lime Refreshers a non-coffee drink?  They sound good.  Congrats on getting to yoga, glad it helped!

Love it!  I teach that course this time of year.  Usually only do about 6 classes in the spring.  The teenagers come in all cocky with their chests puffed up thinking they are all that and a bag of bagels.  Then they get in to do the 300 yd swim and it CRUSHES them.  That's my favorite part of the class.

No pie and no beer (sad face).  Not sure how it got that name, but on Mother's Day weekend they have the Mrs. Smith's Challenge (with rolling pins as AG awards, not that I'll be getting one) for women only and Father's Day weekend they have the Mr. Smith's Challenge for men only but it's a 10K instead of 5 miles.  The men win trophies that look like the Incredible Hulk ripping his shirt off.  It's a trail run.   I love running in the woods. Fun!  It would be much more fun with beer and pie.  Or ice cream.

Oh dear, so I forgot to tell you guys about my first training session for the beer mile.

First of all the rules are tough,

in case you don't know it's:

1 Beer, 1 Lap, 1 Beer, 1 Lap, 1 Beer, 1 Lap, 1 Beer, Final Lap

The beer HAS to be at least 5.0% so, no pansy light beers. It also has to come from a regular, un-tampered with can or bottle. So no shot-gunning etc.

If you throw up, you have to run an additional quarter mile Surprised

As it turns out I have lost all of my college skills for chugging beer. It is going to exceptionally tough with the 5.0+% rule.

I'm sure you could finish just fine.

It's probably going to be that 20 minutes or so after finishing that's going to get sketchy.
