Snow & ice are the limit for me.  Drivers are bad enough when they have traction.

Hi folks.  Now with IMAZ out of the way, I can concentrate on getting in shape.  CdA will be way cool.

Party on.

welcome aboard trinitwit. lot of us are coming off IM novembers and heading right back to it after a bit of recovery.

I like to throw monthly totals out there to help with accountability. Ive done it for IMAZ and IMFL boards and many have followed suit. Others say, I prefer to keep to myself. To each his own. Hope y'all don't mind and I would be glad to see yours and your analysis. Recall that quantity/volume does not equate to quality/intensity.

Monthly below is pretty weak for the phatman but it was a A race month and there was taper and recovery going on.

November's totals:
Bike:19h 14m 43s  - 380.03 Mi
Run:12h 50m 55s  - 94.56 Mi
Swim:3h 16m  - 10336 Yd
Strength:10m
Stretching:1h 20m

quick ? - I know it is early,  but I want to go ahead and block off for work in June.  When should I get to CDA?  I am flying in from Georgia.  I was thinking Thursday to get to "play" on the course and get settled in.  What are the thoughts of the group?

Participant check-in is your choice of Friday or Saturday, and then bike check-in is Saturday.  Since you're flying in, I'd probably try to arrive sometime Thursday afternoon / evening just to give yourself a little buffer in case of travel problems.  You'll have plenty of time to bike or drive parts of the course, as well as test the cold lake water

I am traveling from Virginia and face the same cross country travel as you.  In 2007, I flew in on Wednesday and left on Monday.  In 2009, I flew in on Thursday and left on Tuesday.  I liked that much better.  I like the extra time on Monday to recover and you don't miss much on Thursday.   The Friday am (non-gatorade) swim practice is a must!  That is a great time to meet other BTers.

Run:17h 20m 13s  - 131.11 Mi

Needless to say, I was marathon focused, and this included Taper and the race.  I did get on the trainer twice, and in the pool once!  Next month will have much more trainer time, much more pool time and much more skiing Cool

In town housing is full week only.  Hotel is sold out.  I may play the course on the day after IM CdA.

Wow, thanks everyone for the reality punch in the gut. I knew November was bad but I guess without actually posting these pathetic numbers I didn't realize how far I had fallen.

Month over and time to get serious!

I don't track miles anymore per my coach, although I guess I could if I wanted to go back and do the math.  Here is my November.  My program kicked off this month for New Orleans in April and CdA in June:

November's totals:
Bike:18 hours
Run:19 hours
Swim:13 hours

Per Week Avg:
12.5 hours

Edit:  Ok, am I the only one doing this many hours?

Here are my numbers--Thanksgiving week meant lots less on the bike and pool--but Dec. should be a decent month and then Jan will see it all GO UP! Good running month though--nothing longer than 10 miles, but just more throughout the week.

Rough start of the month with insane travel for work.  Things settled down later in the month and I was able to start some quality butt meet bike time.

What is this swim stuff everyone is talking about?

For me a "normal" week (e.g. non-IM build) for a good base is around 10-12 hrs/wk.  Looks like you're doing OK.  I think this is good maintenance volume.  Just make sure it's good quality.  My $.02.

Yea, I am being told to maintain 12 hours until the end of January, before slowly building.  I'm a sprint distance guy who is still working on my swim and just did my first HIM in October (Longhorn).  My coach thinks I need to train my body at this level for a few months so it can withstand the 12 weeks of hell from Mar-June.

So I don't know if it is too early to start thinking of this, but where is everyone staying? It looks like a lot of hotels are either crazy expensive or already booked. Has anyone used other options before, like renting a house with a bunch of people or getting an RV?
