Master 2501![]() ![]() | Subject: RE: swbkrun Mentor Group II- CLOSED FOR BUSINESS!!!trying1 - 2010-11-01 12:22 PM Linda a huge congrats! the family had a good weekend. The kid was just getting over a cold and missed his school Halloween party so we wanted to make sure he had fun yesterday. He had a blast, several streets were blocked off and there was a massive block party. Lots of interesting costumes and many haunted town homes.. I also had a little 5 mile race in central park Sunday morning. PR in time for me 38:10! pretty happy with the time. The race was pretty competitive. Lost to a guy in a full out Gumby outfit and a girl in a mermaid outfit.. Not sure how they ran 5 miles in those outfits.. Not sure if this is common but it seems that for the 5 mile race my garmin was .15 mile over in distance.. Is this common or is this due to the weaving to get around people? Congrats on the PR! Zoom!!! And yes that's common... and yes it's due to weaving around peeps. That, and not running perfect tangents. .15 seems a little high for a 5-mile race, but it definitely creeps up to .3-.4-ish for a marathon distance when you consider water-stop-weaving, people weaving, and not running perfect tangents (sometimes parked cars don't allow for that!). Sorry to hear Gumby took you down, ha ha!! |

I found something to fill my time other than just running this month. Found the pool (twice!). Found my bike (4 times!). Found the Yoga studio (3 times!). And Steve found me a run clinic that has me doing all sorts of crazy drills before every run. Good times. Hot instructor. This month I passed up last year's run total, and am now just 40 miles shy of my 1200-mile goal for the year (something I've never done). Go Giants! | |

All satellite based GPS units are NOT continuously receiving satellite data, just periodically. Therefore they are commonly off from the measure distance. If it is a certified course it is done on a special bike multiple times to ensure the distance is accurate and then just to be sure they add a little bit to the course so that it is actually a little bit long. |

That is fantastic!! Doug, glad Claire thinks she can help. And that she gave you clearance to run. Trust me, she doesn't give that lightly ![]() I know most people post pictures of thier kids on Halloween, but I want to brag about my friend's costume. For those of you who met Katie at Augusta, this is her husband Paul. The four of us went to a restaurant that, unbeknownst to us, was having a costume party. Our friend, the Mad Hatter, won 1st prize ($1000) for best individual costume. All home made (except the wig and hat). Pay no attention to the lame- on the right. That is an awesome mad hatter!!! Very cool what mad hatter are you looking at? i can only see a couple things just north of the two of hearts. |

I just had my first PT session this AM. The ibuprofin the doctor told me to take iss doing great for my achillies. This will not, however deal with the cause of my pain, hence the PT. From the 1st session it is clear I am tight in my legs and my hip flexors. I mean really tight. The PT said that since my pain is only on one side there is probably an inbalance. She tried to work the muscles out to get an idea as to whether my legs are of different lengths. After working on my hip flexors for awhile she thinks my right leg is longer than my left. She gave me some exercises/stretches to do before my next appointment on friday. I have appointments about 2 x week for 4 weeks. Hopefully we can isolate the underlying cause of my inbalance and then plan how to correct it. I may need a lift in my left shoe. She did note that with my FLAT feet it is a wonder I do not have more problems, e.g., PF. I'll let you all know how it is going. She did say I can run, but NOT to run up hills for now.Doug As someone who has trotted down this path, make sure you have a real anatomical difference before putting in a lift. Often times people have a pelvic tilt due to imbalances. Very easy to determine, a simple xray measures the bones in your leg on both sides to determine their exact length. Also consider an insert vs a lift if you do have a difference.. Insert puts pressure on the forefoot which can lead to SFs in some people. No worries Suzy, we are a long way from that right now. Still need another sessions just to figure out what is going on here. Tracy, don't you know you never want to be the crew member in red! When you go down to the planet surface you're the first one to die! |

Little guy had cross country champs. 2.97 mile HILLY course, 20:31. I'm blown away, need to get some tips from the 14 year old. Big guy had water polo playoffs - lost - in the most complicated game I've ever seen.....bad refs, bad scorekeepers, clocks turned back - both teams even agreed it was a cluster-*@.*. Ah, well. 2 college coaches called before we got home, and he got his first acceptance letter/offer in the mail. On the way home from polo - did I mention the game was in SF? - we listened to Renteria go deep - YEAH!!! lights flashing all over the 280 freeway!!!! Massage scheduled for tomorrow.......hoping it helps. My race was 26.46 miles - and I don't care what they say, I want a 2 minute credit. |
