Hi everyone,

sitting already at the airport to catch my redeye back to NYC. Was a great raceday did 10:17:33 and I'm more than happy about it - first time, got the swim done even if I didn't train for the last 2 months and got my marathon in in 3:37.

Only downside was that some moron stole my Garmin from my bike transition bag. So in the end it was a good but a little pricey weekend. Hope you guys have fun tomorrow and enjoy the party tonight for me.

Sorry that I could not catch up with everyone - I enjoyed reading the forum here and actually learned a lot. Next year I'm moving back to Germany. So who knows maybe we see us then at Roth or Frankfurt (if I'm going to do another Ironman...).

Will do my race report later.

Take care everyone!

Yup, I'm walking around like Frankenstein.  It was a great race though and I couldn't have asked for it to go any smoother!  Full race report coming later...

Congrats to all who raced this year.

I just got in for 2012.  Any recommendations on where to stay?  I will be there with the family (wife and 2 boys - 14 and 10).

Thanks,

  Chris

Congrats to all the racers!  I had a great time, spending the day taking literally thousands of pictures.  I was able to get over 30 photos of specific BT-ers, by basically shooting at random and luckily finding many of you.  This was the only way to do it, since it's so difficult to remember 4 dozen race numbers and pick you out in a matter of a couple of seconds.

Here is a list of everyone I got a shot of.  I'll send each one of you a private message and if you're willing to provide me with an email address, I'll send a full size copy of whatever I have of you.  They were shot with a Pentax 10 megapixel SLR.  Some are good, some a little less so, but they're available for free if you want them.  I figured I'd put the list here in case you miss the private message for one reason or another.

Way to go BTers!  It was an awesome day out there.  I hope everyone enjoyed the "close to perfect" weather (except that brutal wind on loops 2 and 3 of the bike).

I cannot wait to read everyone's race reports to see how your day went.

The most unusual shot of the day was this one...with 2 BT-ers in the same photo!  On the left is Kathleen (Kath2163) and on the right is Chris (cordova78).  I'm not sure if you two were aware at the moment that you were forum-mates!!

I saw him too!  He must have had a support partner on the street...as there was a similar dude but dressed in green, with the full outfit!

Well, not the outcome I was hoping for, but it could have been worse.  I was really hypothermic out of the water, had a way slower than normal swim and not sure why.  Gut wasn't working in T1, so no gel pack as planned.  Got out on the bike, and started to feel weird around Mile 10.  Witnesses at Mile 15 saw me slump forward on the bike before crashing to the ground.  I managed to come around, took in some gu chomps and liquid nutrition, and decided to keep going.  Bad road rash, but oh well.  Didn't realize I had 4 good breaks in my helmet.  Front wheel was messed up and against my break the rest of the ride.  Lost my back cage and my nutrition, used race stuff but my gut didn't like it.  Rode another 60 miles before missing the 3pm cutoff by 2 minutes.  Good thing.  They took me to medical where the helmet issue was discovered.  Trip to the ED.  Head CT is normal.  Lots of road rash, stitches for a gauge in my hip.  Egg on my right forehead and blurred vision.  Ugh.

Better today....bruised right side.  Bruised ego as well.  Time to heal....then look for a race with a warmer swim???

Sorry to hear about that, its good you're turning it into positive energy for another race.  My father in law saw a few people just get out the of the water from the cold just after the race.

I am sorry to hear about what happened to you!  I suffered through the swim also and spent 20 minutes trying to get my core temp up before getting on the bike.  If the swim had been much longer I don't know if I would have made it. My legs were  shivering at the turn around and it just got worse. If I hadn't had a  neoprene cap on and booties I don't know what would have happened. Like you said, finding a race with a warmer swim is a necessity. Again, sorry to hear about your experience.

My race report is up.  I had an incredible day.

I noticed a couple of BTers out there: furiousferret, isis, mathias (flying on the run), and of course Brittany.

I hope you all had the day you were looking for.  Best of luck you all in the future.

Chris

Nice job everyone!   I had a pretty good day, with the exception of some stomach issues on the run.  Still, set a 45 minute PR and feel great today (really sore though) after the drive home.  My report is posted if anyone is interested.

You might want to check to see if your Garmin showed up in a Lost and Found if they have one. I worked Gear Bags for part of the day and things were constantly falling out as bags were moved from place to place. I hope they saved at least the labeled and big ticket items in some sort of Lost Gear box.
