Dilemma:

There is a century ride this weekend in Tullahoma.    Weather looks good but still on the warm side.  Tullahoma is a 90 minute drive from here.  Just was reminded that there is another quasi-local century on the east side of Huntsville on the 21st.  Thats a 70 minute drive.      Weather in late September is the best weather we get all year.   Leaves don't turn around here to October.   Scenery for both is about the same.

I would like to do both.   It is too much to do and if I do both if there enough time to recover from the first to do the second?

The first has 5364 feet of climb.   It seems to mostly be spread over a lot of "little" climbs.  The second has just about the same amount of climb, 5000 ft, but it looks to be mostly on one serious climb.

Cheeky answers appreciated.....

Oh geeze. I'm too lazy to look at your training but as long as you have been biking somewhat consistently you are totally fine.

I did a double century, back to back days and you all know how I feel about bikes.

I'm on the Zen training plan.   Sorry, but I don't keep logs.  Be it a busman's holiday thingie or an eidetic memory, it doesn't matter.

Well, at least you have a diagnosis and can get all healed. I had to google "Fluevogs". Interesting. BTW, how's E?

E's foot is better.  She has one blister left - it drained on its own and we're waiting for the skin to heal.  She goes to the doctor tomorrow to make sure it's all healing ok.

Sounds like both you and E are on the road to recovery though yours may take a bit longer.  At least it's going into your off season....

True, although I really wanted to run a marathon in March.  Definitely not going to happen.  Maybe Disney in 2015.

Oh, by then both my Things will be in college.  Though I am not too sure I ever want to do another full marathon.  But a Disney medal would be way cool.

It's really big!!  I had to ask to send it and pay shipping, but it was totally worth it.

E was wearing it.  So adorable.  She wouldn't let me take a pic though.

I AM CELEBRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My PT's grandmother died (that is not why I am celebrating) and I was put with a new PT.  She tried some different things and ordered me to run tonight.  Wait for it........................................................I made it 1.76 miles and stopped because I was home and it was dark not because the pain was too intense. There is HOPE!!!!  At least, I hope there is hope and this made me hopeful that I can run again.

For tonight, at least, CELEBRATING!!!!!!

Welcome Nancy!

I'm Adrienne. I think other bio stuff is in the beginning of the thread but feel free to ask anything that is not covered.

It sounds as though it was a rough race weekend all around, eh? Even my teammates struggled here locally in the PacNW HM championship. Long story but my training partner DNFed and helped another teammate who was crying on the curb (who also DNFed) Yowza!

But the good news? I find you can learn a heck of a lot more from these sh*tty races than you can from the good ones.

Onward!!!

Also, Judi, do you have some specific questions in regard to how a HM plays into a marathon plan? If I haven't covered something or have left you confused, I apologize and please let me clarify!!

My friend Paul Pearson--a character if I ever met one, makes me look dull and naive--always said, "I never learned anything on a good day."

Boooo to the stress fracture.    And more boooo to the boot... hmmm... maybe that can be a new "niche market" for Fluevog?

Heal up fast - and no more stress fractures!

Before reading the Korean Air inflight magazine on the way home, I had no idea that Kermode bears even existed.

They are purdy!  Not that I've ever seen one in person (thank Gawd), but anytime I've seen them on Nat Geo or something I always ooooh and aaaaaah at them.

Jen, sorry to hear about your fracture, but awesome medal!  Glad to hear E is healing up.

Joanne, great news on the running/PT change.

I am taking a couple days off running myself, as my foot is being naughty.  I had a major problem several years ago, when I first started running.  Orthotics fixed the problem.  I have new ones on order, my current ones are 3+ years old.  Hoping that will help.  I am wondering if part of the problem is also that I have let my quads get really tight and my knee has been pulled out of alignment.  Sigh.  I am my own worst enemy...

OOh, I would love to see one in person.  I'm not afraid of black bears.  Respect yes.  Now grizzlies, I would not want to meet in person.

Medals. Happy. Race decisions. Happy. People getting better. Happy.

Otherwise, not so good.

I feel, inside and outside, and look like I got run over by a two-storey mining truck.

Mutti is sick--she doesn't want to eat--this is like me not wanting Pop Tarts (and right now, I don't). Of course, our family doc of 30yrs is on holiday, so we'll get to see some yahoo. Good news: I'm getting follow-up. If Mutti's really not well, she can be attended to. And we have the means and facilities here to be seen.

My BFF of 30 years--we've been best friends since kindy and have kind of followed each other 'round the world, and both moved back to Bali at the same time, and her parents too ... her mom, who is also like my mom, passed away right after IM Japan. Like my dad passed away right after IMNZ. Her folks are in Germany--her mom was looking after her dad who just had surgery and is in cardiac rehab, and SHE'S the one who keeled over of a heart attack. So my friend is going to Germany by herself to deal with her mother's funeral arrangements and take care of her dad.

By the way, she just had a baby 2mos ago. She's leaving the baby with her partner here in Indonesia. They are in the middle of moving from Bali to Jakarta so they don't have a home in either place.

It is killing me that I can't go with her. It was shytty enough when my dad died but I had a whole family surrounding me. She's going through the most difficult time of her life and I am completely helpless and can't be there with/for her.

On the bright side, as life and death things go ... my niece (brother's oldest child, she's like my little sis as we are close in age, and I am not to my brother) is having her baby tomorrow. URRRRRGH I really wish I could be there too! But at least I'm "here" and can see my niece the little one in a few days.

This I cannot complain of: ever having had a dull, scarce life!

Heal quickly and completely my dear lady.    I've had several concussions over the years.  Made full recovery, just took some time.  Mental capacity returned as did memory.

Nice to see your heart and courage are still intact.  Oo Rah.

Non sequitur:  Of all the things I could notice in your avatar I see that we have exactly the same shaped feet.  Paddle feet, we are.  Perfect for aquatic prowess.      And no I don't have a foot fetish....    Innocent

I don't have that famous one at hand, where you can really see the duck feet, but this one of how little (thank God) luggage I was taking to Japan shows it pretty well ...

quack on, my dear mad Polymath.

So very glad to she that you have made it home. I saw the bruises on face book and I must say that they are fairly impressive (and I bet hurt like shyte). I'm guessing that your trip to WA next week and IM WA have both been shelved for a while so that you can recover.

I am very sorry to hear that Mutti isn't well and about your friend's mum and that she will have to deal with this alone. Thinking and praying for her.

I am really glad to hear about your niece though you have to have some sunshine in your life.

I have a new nephew due any day now (kinda sitting here waiting for the phone to ring). That will make 10 nieces and nephews for me and I'm going home next week so hopefully he is born before I get there and I get to see him, otherwise it will most likely be after Christmas.

This is so great to hear Jo (not that your PT's grandmother died, but that it had a positive outcome for you). How do you say that so that it doesn't sound callous?

Very cool that they sent them--nice looking too.  Looks pretty big!

It's really big!!  I had to ask to send it and pay shipping, but it was totally worth it.

E was wearing it.  So adorable.  She wouldn't let me take a pic though.

AWESOME!!!  TOTALLY WORTH IT!!

ABSOLUTELY AWESOME
