It looks like a lot of hotels are either crazy expensive or already booked.

Coeur d'Alene does fill up pretty fast but you can find hotel rooms pretty late in the game if you scrounge.  There are house rentals - try VRBO - which also go fast and they all gouge you for Ironman week.

Post Falls, about 5 miles out has a few more places to stay.  Spokane, WA is about a 30 minute drive on I-5.  It's a large city and you'll always find a place to stay there as a last option.

Perhaps you could combine with me and my sherpa and/or jim sinclair from the team too if he decides to enter. We could all share costs. I am still looking too.

craigslist has a bunch of listings via tawnya mathers but they all seem pretty dear. the host hotel is sold out. other nearby hotels are sold out. i kind of keep waiting for something to happen via the msg boards but nothing yet. PM me if you want to go in together or want more info about what I have learned.

i also hit the Idaho board on BT and st.com but they basically told me to go here too.

and if anyone is aware of anyone local thats looking to make some $ for hosting, please PM me.

I just checked and it looks like the Comfort Inn still has rooms available in both Coeur d'Alene and Post Falls.  Maybe that'll help you guys out.

15step - 2010-12-01 2:28 PM So I don't know if it is too early to start thinking of this, but where is everyone staying? It looks like a lot of hotels are either crazy expensive or already booked. Has anyone used other options before, like renting a house with a bunch of people or getting an RV?

I always use VRBO.  I think I mentioned earlier in thist post there are always places that pop up after the new year as people drop out, etc.  Keep checking that site.  There are usually vacant places at Riverstone which is less than 2 miles from the start.

Not with complete accuracy, (no Garmin yet-using iPhone GPS app) and missing totals for 6 days:
Run:     85mi.                 12-13hrs
Swim:    17,750 yds        5:15-5:30 hrs
Ride      391 miles           22-23 hrs

Never done IM before, just 1/2 and oly and sprints.  Is this too much too soon if I feel good?

Also: staying at Best Western but it is pricey at @ $179 per night.

Wow, thanks everyone for the reality punch in the gut. I knew November was bad but I guess without actually posting these pathetic numbers I didn't realize how far I had fallen.

lol - Don't worry, you're way ahead of me.  I've been in marathon recovery mode most of the month and have done maybe 50 miles running, about 10 biking and zero swimming.  I've needed the mental break though and I'm totally comfortable where I'm at.

So is anyone else off and running on a 30 week plan? I'm officially on my slightly modified Ironfit intermediate plan from now until the race. These predawn Wednesday morning short brick runs after the trainer are going to be painfully cold for a while. But I'm glad to be back on an intensive plan after cutting back for a few months and feel fully ready mentally and physically to do this.

Ah, crap!  I have it in my calendar as starting in two weeks.  Somehow I screwed up the weeks--and the worst part is that now I have to figure out where I put the two missing weeks Cry

So, yeah...I will now be starting the Ironfit plan, too...but maybe a 29 week version.

The Friday am (non-gatorade) swim practice is a must!  That is a great time to meet other BTers.

What does this mean?

Gatorade used to sponsor pre-race swims... they would provide a place for you to check your gear and have their products available.  Since WTC has contracted with powerbar for all their nutrition at the race, there is no more official Gatorade swim in the days before the race... but that doesn't mean you can't swim on your own (virtually everyone does).

Will depend upon water temps for the socks.  At the pre-race swim at IMAZ this year they were announcing that it socks would be legal (water temp was 61)...no reason for the neo cap to not be legal. I've never seen that outlawed, and I could be mistaken, but I think you'd be safe counting on the cap as legal.

Wow - you are all amazing!! I'm looking at the November totals already posted and I am highly impressed.

I'm not going to lie, I haven't even started swimming yet . I've been doing a good job with getting a solid base before starting "officially" January 1.

Am I crazy?

CdA water temp was 60 this year and quite a few people were wearing both.

All I know is that I finally learned my lesson.  After freezing my a$$ off for that last couple of years in Oceanside, Malibu & Ventura with water temps in the 58 - 61 F range, I broke down & got a neo cap for IM AZ.  Huge difference.  I'll never go back for temps less than ~65.  Somehow I think it was the percieved wussy-factor that kept me away.

Party on.

P.S.  It also serves as nice protection from kicks & elbows.  Laughing

The wife and I started the 30 week plan this week.  I guess I should not be complaining about my "cold" 50 degree bike ride.

We booked a house thru http://cdaapp.cdagetaway.com/ The woman who runs it is very nice and can help you find a house based on where you want to be and how much you want to spend.

Not at all - My 20 Week BT IM plan doesn't start til early February. One thing I learned during IM #1 is that there are lots of plans being used and lots of different goals being trained for. It helps to add those racing as friends so you can check out their logs and find some people that seem to be about your pace or have similar goals and then see how their doing. If I compared myself (a solid BOPer) to everyone here I would have given up before I started training.

You'll do fine!
