Sprint_DA - 2008-06-17 10:02 AM And I haven't really figured that out yet. Does having kids sound like that much fun? I can't believe the number of people I met when I used to go out during the week who would just drop their kids off at their parents' house. Seriously, they raised you...why should they have to take care of your kid because you want to go out on a Wednesday night?
Because a babysitter is a sanity saver. A single person can go out when they want and do what they want at their pace and leisure. When you have kids everything is harder - even just going into the store for milk and bread can be a 30 minute stressful ordeal sometimes. You have to get out without them sometimes. If you don't it's very very easy to end up resenting them and it ain't their fault they are kids.
I understand a babysitter. I understand wanting a babysitter and going out on the weekend. I don't understand being a bar regular on Tuesday and Wednesday when you're dumping your kid(s) on your parents. My parents would laugh at me if I asked them to watch my kids (I don't have any, this is a hypothetical situation) because I wanted to go out midweek. They would probably say something about living with the decisions I've made.

Can I ask how old you are?  I know a GREAT girl in Davenport..

A girl in Moline broke my heart.  I'm not a fan of the quad cities.  However, there is a major MMA camp out of there, so that's some redeeming value....

OK, this kind of sucks just a little.

I turn 40 late this year, so I have to compete in the 40-44 AG.  In my race on Sat. I placed 4th (and got passed in the last mile on the run,  grrrrr).

I just looked at the 35-39 AG.  I would have been in 2nd or third with my time.  Sucks cuz I AM 39 and it so happens that the 40-44 were faster at this race...

Oh well, someday it will be my day, and the right people will (or will NOT) show up on race day.

YEP - just checked again, would have been second.....

A girl in Moline broke my heart.  I'm not a fan of the quad cities.  However, there is a major MMA camp out of there, so that's some redeeming value....

A country song for Aikidoman ...

I was out there drahvin' mah Chevy through the backroads of I-O-WAY,
When I saw this little farmer's daughter, truckin down mah way,
I done said to myself `Hey, kiddo, there's the girl for you,'
I didn't know she'd take my truck, my boots and my huntin' dog `Ol' Blue,'

(Chorus)
I had my heart broken, (pause), by a girl from ol' Moline,
I was deep in love with Marsha, or was her name Maureen?
She made me feel like a million bucks, before she ripped out my heart and my spleen,
I done had my heart broken, from a girl from ol' Moline.

(Fiddle break)
Drivin' out in the country, a man gets lonely sometimes,
I done been on the road, one I'd been on at least a hundred times,
That ol' gravel road looked familiar, I knew I couldn't stray,
Until I saw them Daisy Dukes, in a hotrod cabriolet.

(Chorus)
I had my heart broken, (pause), by a girl from ol' Moline,
I was deep in love with Marsha, or was her name Maureen?
She made me feel like a million bucks, before she ripped out my heart and my spleen,
I done had my heart broken, from a girl from ol' Moline.

(Geee-tar break)
She took me back to the barn, for a little, roll in the hay,
She was quite the expert, she kept me up, there, most of the day,
When I woke up, I was feelin' all warm and fuzzy and cuddly too,
Opened my eyes and to my surprise, my stuff was gone, includin' ol Blue.

(Chorus)
I had my heart broken, (pause), by a girl from ol' Moline,
I was deep in love with Marsha, or was her name Maureen?
She made me feel like a million bucks, before she ripped out my heart and my spleen,
I done had my heart broken, from a girl from ol' Moline.

That sucks.  The AG rules used to be weird, though.  I think they make more sense now.

Rynamite - 2008-06-17 11:05 AM I thought they went by your age on the day of the race?

Used to.  Now they are by your age as of December 31.  It made the rankings at the end of the year weird if they went by your age on race day.

yep, meets the criteria for a country song....

  • Mention Broken heart - check
  • Mention of Girl - check
  • Mention of Truck - check
  • Mention of Dog - check....

What happens when you play a country song backwards?

You get back your dog, your truck, and your girl.

chadtower - 2008-06-17 8:06 AM I think it will take an act of Gord for me to ever end up on a podium.

I used to think the same thing.  But I have been getting closer as the training continues.

HOWEVER, like I said, it really depends on who shows up to the race.....  I have been CRUSHED by the field in certain races and been solid MOP.  But the same time on the same course a year later would take a podium spot - go figure.

Well, there's the fact that I'm 33. So I'm solidly in the WTF finishing time age group. Plus I don't know that I want it badly enough to dedicate the time for a podium finish. I'm not saying I'm incapable - I'm saying the competition in my age group is fiercer than I am probably willing to prepare for.

Same here, 32. But sometimes the stars do all align ... it really isn't something you can prepare for. You can nudge the likelihood, that's all.

Although I will say if you do enough tris--particularly small local ones--and can manage to lay down some solid MOP times, over the course of a few years, you'll probably eventually podium.
