Fresh out of pork bellies I am. My home-made bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches were the hit of the tailgate last week. Gotta get another batch in the queue as you need 3 weeks before it's ready.

I'm kinda surprised that it is Thursday, already.  Leaving work early tomorrow and taking the gf and her daughters to Cedar Point.  Their "Halloweekends" start tomorrow night, which is where they makeover the entire park with a Halloween/haunted theme, so it should be a lot of fun.

New job duties today and learning things. Linux and Web Administration techy-geek time.  More fun than desktop support any day!  Finally get a raise after 5 years with taking this job, too (working for the State issue) - drawback is having to be on call every so often, but that shouldn't happen for a couple of months, unless they feel I'm ready.

Thanks for asking, 2Goggs.  A fellow Donkai, Dave (who coaches), has prodded me to keep up the running for the Fall 50 Ultra in October.  I bought some compression sleeves before the IM, have been wearing them, did some short runs, then did a touch of stretching.  It's AMAZING how much the sticks have recovered!  I'm not hobbling around like the past 2 days!

How's your new job?  If I make it down to Chicago in the future (won't be for the marathon), I want to check out a restaurant I saw on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, and see if you and the Mrs. would like to go.  'K?

That's scary.  Do you feel that your job is secure, though, and they feel your value and are confident to keep you?

(KNOCK ON WOOD) Yes. The first round we lost one of our three staff members - so there are only two of us now under one manager. This time we were told we are safe, but cautioned that productivity and adding value will be more crucial than ever in the future.

Putting the scare tactic in to make you work harder, and with less.  The thing about having ONE manager for TWO workers seems like a cost issue for the company, to me.  If they could redistribute the two of you and give you a small increase from the removal of the one manager, would it work, or, is the manager worth retaining for other reasons?

Stressful times for sure.  Been there done that.  You'll be fine.

Would it be worth looking for something new?  Maybe get out of there before anything bad happens and you have a gap in your resume?  Not that hurts you THAT much.  Everyone understands there could be gaps over the last 5 years.

Yes my manager is amazing - they need him and they know it. There is another manager in my group though, who... manages... no one. It's perplexing. He is in the 'good old boys club' though, so he isn't going anywhere.

Are you looking to stay in your city and/or state, or is moving out of your state an option?  Would Chicago better interest you?  There's always those Pros/Cons weigh-ins to sort through.

I'm having the oddest conversation via text.

Started with one from a number I didn't know that said "God you are incredibly desirable"... and it just got weirder. And super-cryptic. He gave me a name I didn't recognize. Then, when I asked for a picture or something to see if I remember, he sent me to a LinkedIn profile with a different name (first and last). Won't really specify where/when we met. I think it's time to just ignore it.

Yay!  Glad to hear the sticks are recovering nicely - I was walking like a broken penguin for 2 days or so after IMAZ.

Definitely YES to checking out a restaurant on DDD, which restaurant?  We watch that show fairly often so it's possible that we've already got the one you're thinking of on the list of places to check out.

Hey, Monica!  I hope they like the trip and stay, and your husband.
I think the ticket price would be WORTH seeing Wicked!  I saw the show here in Madison.  I do not get into Broadway shows much, BUT, Wicked was VERY, VERY good!  Great storyline, characters, stage setup, and musical score!  GO SEE IT!!!!  I bet it would be even better in Chicago.

Training our bodies to work efficiently in Zone 2 will help us keep our HR and pace even throughout an Ironman. This theory would hold true for the bike and run portion of an Ironman race.
