Also, following the IM talk, I did my first 6km run without stopping today & felt awful at first, but then GREAT! Sounds silly in comparison but I have to begin somewhere eh

Ben, absolutely!!! Celebrate those victories! Last summer I trained for an IM, got injured and I'm now back to running 4 miles with walk breaks. Everything comes with time, consistency, and patience. Keep going!

Ben - +1 to what Jenn said. I ran a marathon in early January, tapered down mileage wise for a few weeks, took February off, and ran a terrible feeling 2.5 miles the other day. Cekebrate indeed!

You know what they say--comparison is the thief of joy (or, at least T. Roosevelt said it!). Celebrate your victories! Distance, time, speed, whatever it is you accomplish. You are on a different journey than everyone else with different goals and obstacles, so don't compare yourselves to them.

After eight more days of no workouts, I finally dragged my carcass back to the pool today. Meds are working and the sinus/ear infections and strep throat are under control. Dr. said I could start workout out when I felt better. I didn't tell her today is the first day of my HIM training plan! Joking...sort of. Today is the first day of my HIM plan, but I'm trying very hard not to over do it. I do not want to relapse!!

1500yds in the pool this morning at a slowish pace. I never felt like I was pushing super hard. I tried to work on technique to focus my attention away from abysmal speed.

Oh...and I probably forgot to tell everyone that I've decided to start training for the same HIM I did last year (Route 66 in Springfield, IL). Work travel may still change and I might be out of the country for two or more months. If that happens, I'll shift to a HIM in September, there are two to choose from local-ish. If it doesn't happen, I'll be on my plan for late July. Delusions caused by codeine?

CONGRATS ANDREW!!! I'm sure that was just an amazing feeling to cross that finish line. Your post, although brief, made me feel a little emotional. So excited for you, and can't wait to read the RR.

My swim meet went really well! Definitely better than planned. I will work on the RR now. I definitely had some "Why the hell am I doing this" moments, but mostly it was a super positive day that ended with a VERY SORE me.

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Gretchen, I'm glad you are feeling better! Ben, I agree with what others have said. Eating lean, clean and green is ideal, although takes lots of planning and food prep.

Originally posted by nicole14e Good luck, Andrew!!! What is the forecast looking like for the race? Ran a mile and played two football games yesterday (we won our league!). We went out to celebrate, which included drinking bud light from Das Boot (our trophy for winning). Got home around 11:30 and woke up at 5:15 for masters practice. 2600 yards. My arms were still dead from boot camp on Wednesday and he crushed us. The meet on Sunday will be very interesting. Still haven't decided what races I'm doing, although I'm thinking 500 fr, 200 fr, maybe 100 fr, and 100 bk. My coach told me to do the 1650 and I laughed at him. I want this to be fun, not torture! Will probably do a relay or 2 as well.

Congrats!!!

And, good luck on Sunday!  Can't wait to see the RR, haven't read one for a swim meet!

If you'er super interested and don't want to wait for (original) Nicole's race report, you can dig through mine....I have one in there from November, 2015

So I'm having trouble figuring out how to set up the RR and can't see yours from November 2015. Is there a chance it's not public? I had to create a race, but it's only really letting me put in 1 event. I did 6, and will definitely not be doing 6 different RRs haha. I had to add the meet, and am thinking maybe I didn't do it right?

Also I might have to stop calling you ON and start with a swimming-related nickname like 'The Torpedo' or something.  Holy cow a 1:11 100...

Very nice!  Can definitely see the fatigue starting to hit you on that 200.....that's a LOT of events for a single day!  I can't believe the pool is only four feet deep where the blocks are!  That would freak me out.....I dive in at the shallow end from the pool deck, but I'd be seriously concerned about hitting the bottom if going off the blocks!

I forgot that I posted my RR on TrainingPeaks and as a post in one of the mentor groups, not as an official race report.  The meet I did was a two day event, and I only did two events per day....had planned to do a relay on the second day, but we didn't sign up in time or something, so it didn't happen.  I wasn't overly heart broken

Nicole - nice race report. Glad to hear it went so well.

Gretchen - very good to hear your on the mend and awesome to hear about signing up for the race in July or September.

How was everyone's weekend? For me it was the usual ocean swim group on Saturday morning and then my run Saturday afternoon. Sunday was 30 mile hilly bike ride. Slow and painful. I need to do that route more often!

Run on tap for later this afternoon.

Just wanted to check in and see if anyone is paying attention to the "End of Tri Talk" thread in Tri Talk. It in interesting, with several good points on both sides. Of course, this kind of discussion in the mentor groups is exactly what some are blaming the decline of BT on. If you haven't seen it, give it a gander.

Hadn't seen that previously but I've given it a look.  Ironically I'm never in the Triathlon Talk forum, I spend all my time in the mentor area  I've always spent all my time in the mentor area since I started here.  I guess I'm part of the problem haha.

I'm with you, John! I just read through it, but I definitely spend all my time in the mentor area. I think I just like that I "know" the people I am sharing with or asking their opinion. Specifically our group, because I was in a mentor group the year before but it wasn't nearly as active or supportive.

I spent the first two or so years I was on BT reading the TT forum and not being a part of a mentor group. In the year I did my first tri (yes, I trained for two years before doing a race!), I joined a mentor group. It was cliquey, and I wasn't a huge fan (NOT BDAS, of course!). I still spent a good deal of time in TT. Now that I am in BDAS, I will admit to spending more time, and posting much more often, in the mentor groups, but I still read through the forums in TT every dayish. Those who say it is dwindling aren't wrong. It certainly is down in terms of both content and number of posts. I have noted a distinct uptick in posts and responses since the "kill tri talk" post went up, though.

Well I'm guilty of not even knowing that was going on :-)

I'm off swimming for a week as my husband is out of town. I need to get up and at least do elliptical or stationary bike while my daughter is sleeping. But sleeping in feels so good! Consistency is not my thing.

Congratulations on becoming an IRONMAN!

This weekend I joined a local trail running group for a run. Turns out it was more of a hike than a run with the starting climb of 1,100 feet in the first mile! From there a little running before going down the backside of the hill. My goal was about 2 hours on the trail (hoping for ~8-10 miles) however just the first 2.5 miles consumed the first hour so I turned around while the rest of the group pressed on. Sadly the trails got badly washed out during the rains so it was hard to run without risking ankle injury.

The rest of this week will be some mid-week road running and biking. Hopefully find some better trail conditions on Saturday and some paddle-boarding on Sunday.

Beerwise I was able to try the first of Firestone Walker's "Leo v Ursine" limited release series: an unfiltered double IPA called "Fortem". Very well balanced hops and malt, highly recommend if you can find it.

Anyone watching Paris-Nice coverage? This race, along with the rest of the spring classics, is like Spring Training baseball for me - a warm reminder that spring is coming. Makes me happy!

Didn´t even know TT existed, I am too part of the problem then - I really enjoy posting and reading this groups of e-friends, and hardly have time to keep up, so cannot read any other areas.

After 6 days of just work in south east Asia all day and drink King Fisher at night, I got off the plane yesterday and went for 3000m swim and then 1hour run - felt so much better! Today planned 45 min bike with short 15m run brick.

I am joining a cycling club this weekend - I usually ride alone, sometimes with cycling friends but due to schedule issues mostly on my own. But I will need long rides (over 100km) looking into IM Austria in July, so decided to join a big club. They have 300 members and usually on sundays go out 60 to 80, in 3 groups according to your fitness, and bring a car to pick up those "in troubles". So should be a great experience!

I record them all and watch them throughout the year while I"m on the trainer - so I get Paris - Nice, Giro d'Italia, Tour de California, Tour de France, and Vuelta a Espana, plus I also record the UCI World Championships  That's a couple hundred hours of cycling viewing while slogging on the trainer.
