I just mentioned to Monica that I had a quick "where the heck are my arm warmers" sanity check last night.  It's supposed to get to arm warmer temperatures here on Friday night/Saturday morning (high 40s/low 50s, Real Feel of 49) and I wanted to make sure that I could grab them quickly if I needed to.

The 2013 Swim/Bike/Run Gear I use List (guys version)

The Girl’s 2013 Swim/Bike/Run Gear I Use List (obviously this is the girls version)

What gear do you use?  Do you have any particular favorites or new (to you) discoveries?

I had a mini panic attack this morning looking for my arm warmers (found 'em right where I left 'em) while wondering if I would need them (I didn't).

Funny, I was just looking at this list last night!

Swim

Suit: I have a Nike suit and a Speedo that I alternate between

Cap: various from whatever race

Goggle: TYR Nest

Bike

Bike:  Cervelo P1 (George!) and looking to outfit him with Flo wheels when they go on sale again

Shoes: Shimano somethings... but I got the mens version as it has a wider toe box for less squishing

Components: Shimano Ultegra

Helmet:  I can't remember, but it's red to match George

Shorts: Pearl Izumi sugar shorts.  LOVE THEM!

Top: Betty Designs - comfy and I like the pockets in the back

Hydration:  PD aero bottle, one on the down tube & 2 behind the seat

Run

Shoes:  Asics... um... I dunno what they are, but they're comfy!

Shorts:  Pretty much anything, I don't care as long as they're not too short and don't chafe!

Top: Again, pretty much anything as long as it keeps the girls strapped down and doesn't chafe

Socks: Balegas - they're awesome

Visor: Headsweats

That's about all I've got... I just use my trusty old Timex for a watch for everything and still trying to nail down nutrition for the run.  Eventually I'll figure it out, right?

I keep my arm warmers in my bike clothes drawer, very loosely knotted together as to keep them together but not strain the fabric.

One of my favorite pieces of gear is my reflective vest from Nathan.  I tried to find a pic of the one I have but they changed the style.  It's nice because it's not a full-on vest yet it offers 360* reflectiveness and it's not hot or cumbersome.  Well, I'm of course happier when I don't need to wear it (summer/daytime) but I feel very good wearing it when I need to (night/winter).

Edited to add my true favorite piece of gear: Swiftwick socks.  Especially love the winter weight (can't remember the model name), warm without bulky.  Ugh, I can't believe I'm talking about cold weather stuff!

OK, I'm nervously excited.  I am planning on trying a new Masters swim program at a local college...so lotsa new stuff to go with that: 1)swimming WITH people 2)swimming a real, planned workout 3)being pokey and therefore intimidated by the fast kids and points 1 and 2!  Yet despite these things, I will give it a try - I'm hoping the accountability and structure will help.  I'm planning on riding there with my friend (accountability).  Price isn't that bad, especially compared to what I typically pay at HARC (which I am currently between plans right now and haven't paid for the new season yet) and considering I'm getting guidance, too.  Monday is the day...if all goes well, I will return Friday!

Awesome!

Not that you are asking for advice, but I am going to give it to you anyway. Even if it doesn't "go well" the first time, give it a few sessions. Especially if you don't like it because you feel you are slow. That is even more reason to stick with it.

I speak from experience with my running group.

I got to the standing, but not leg straight, in this pose today. I think the whole class was in giggles trying to do it. Laughing

Oh, and I think "eating crow" comes from a yoga pose where you try to balance, but end up on your face.Tongue out

Very cool! All of those points will do nothing but help you. I'm jealous that you have something so close you can ride to it. I think closest to me would be at least 2hr ride/45min drive.

Good luck

Where in COJ?

Think I actually have more stuff than what's on the list. Maybe quite a bit more. But it seems like less in person as the way things are listed makes it seem like more than it is.

Sorry, by ride I meant drive/carpool.  But it is not terribly far, maybe a 25 minute drive.  Bad word choice, my apology, and I beg forgiveness from all my English teachers/professors...

Very nice! The organization of it might seem a bit intimidating at first, but you'll get the hang of it. The lanes will be matched up by speed. I swam in the beginner lane the first time there and really didn't notice the fast lane right next to us once we got going. We were occupied with what we were doing and everything else was background. We have some newer swimmers in there now, and I'm not sure they're at 2:00/100. They're staying with it and getting it done though.

I speak from experience with my running group.

As the slowest person in the morning Masters I can tell you that while it's not fun to be lapped.....if you are making consistent improvements in stroke technique while doing group training that it is worth it.  When I swim with the morning group I am ALWAYS lapped by the entire group......and that coach and I don't communicate so well--but as long as there are efforts to correct the stroke I continue to go (not lately cause marathon training usually happens at dawn).

I am almost always the only person in the evening Masters class.  She puts up a work out (and I love her workouts) but doesn't give as much specific stroke feedback.  Just sits ad asks where I'm at.  I still feel like I have benefitted from going to her class.

Keep at it, there is always something we can learn from the coach.

What are these arm warmers you speak of? Best recent gear find is the free Strava app. I ended up on the phone with my LBS today, talking trash about segments with the owner. This forces me to push, which makes me better.

Shoes are the thing for me. I really like my PI iso Transitions. Comfortable, fit well, no extra crap.
