Oh no!  How awful!

Judi - I have to say, I looked through your logs this morning and noticed you've had 4 empty days in the past  2.5 months. You and Ben and Adrienne really do know how to keep after it. I really wish I could get to that type of consistency. You Rock!!!!

Sorry if I left anyone out, but work calls. Time to start my last day before I burn my last 4 vacay days this year. Enjoy the beginning of the week my friends.

Chris, your comments had me thinking...you know, there is no reason you can't have the consistency that Ben, Judi or I have.

I challenge you to doing something - anything, every day in Jan. To start the new year off right. If your cay is crazy and all you can fit in is 10 minutes of stretching, that's fine. But you have to do something, and log it, ever day. Whatdaya say? Who else is in?

Is this Jogo v2? I was brand new to the group when that was going on.

Oh yes! I don't remember her exact rules but same concept. Perhaps we can just call it Jogo V2 and someone else can dig up the rules

I'm in. My goal right now is 5 runs a week and 2 yoga/stretching/strength sessions. I'm really feeling pretty good with this training cycle at the moment. I think I may ramp up a bit more with the non-running parts in a month or so. If we are going to start new in January, I would suggest that we re-introduce it in mid January as well, to help new folks getting into it. And continue pushing each other and ourselves. I could certainly use some accountability, that never hurts.

New folks?!  You might be overly optimistic!

What a crazy circus week (yes, stellarly crazy, way beyond just the usual insanity) ...

The media attention has been CRAZY. We were literally doing interviews until the moment we left Busselton this morning. TV radio newspapers and every online format as well. Most of all, we're super thrilled about the exposure for our work with disabled athletes and sponsorship opportunities.

Especially since the International Paralympics Committee just announced last month that blind males would NOT be in the categories for triathlon in Rio. (Blind females, yes). Bizarro. So one of my guys can't go but we WILL get him to one of the other major international parathlete competitions. Still. We've all worked so hard.

Yup, as Jo said poor Red Robber has probably seen his final day. I'll post pics of him soon. And Stace Face can confirm about the fleas! Eeyuck!

Kingsley and I are recovering. He's got massive infected blisters on his feet (as in, even ones wrapped AROUND his foot coming up through and around the toes!). Some of our stuff is actually even too gross to post pictures of . I have chafing so severe it did require medical attention but that's actually the least of it! Couple of broken ribs on one side, a bruised one on the other (takes talent to do both sides), most of my right side is now swollen and bruised (took a couple days to really color and swell up nicely), the elbow joint has fairly extensive soft tissue damage (but fortunately not fractured) with one of the wounds down to the bone and has been stitched. What I thought was just a knee scrape also has a good bit of flesh missing.

Actually things (and I) are so swollen up now that I gained FIVE KILOS yes 11 lb from my race weigh-in ... and that was with clothes, this time was naked, so it's probably even more.

However, perhaps the yuckiest of all was that I couldn't shower after Ironman until now. My sister nearly died helping me to get my clothes off. So happy to be clean now! (bit of gymnastics in the shower even with waterproof bandages on but so worth it).

I have no idea how NyNy and Hands-Marie managed one-armed! It's nuts!

I'm looking at about a four-to-six week recovery window for the elbow and ribs.

FYI the crash occurred because some azzhole had parked a motorbike at an aid station. As in, where the athletes have to ride alongside the tables to pick things up from the volunteers. So the guy cycling in front of me stopped suddenly, and so I did too, except the road rose up to greet me. Very very quickly and thoroughly it did!

Be nice to yourself during your recovery.

I know all about when the guy in front of you goes down...

Dearest Yanti, you're not supposed to take it literally when blessed with, "May the road rise up to meet you."    Glad you finally made it into the shower--I'll bet that was a huge relief.  Hope you and Kingley heal quickly.  Married life really isn't meant to be so painful!!

Salty, I'm in on the challenge.

Matt, I'm not sure we want to know the details of your 10 min. and I'm not sure pizza or waxing Sedona are listed as "sports" options in the training blog.

Kirsten - prayers and well-wishes sent for your associate, wow, how awful and scary.

Yanti - glad to see you able to post here and give us an update, sorry to hear how mucked up you are again.  Dear woman, please heal quickly and get rid of your non-rent paying tenants! (the fleas)

Dad's appointment today was a mis-schedule.  He was supposed to see Dr. B first, who was then going to pass him along to the appropriate oncologist, but somehow whoever scheduled today's visit missed that memo.  Late afternoon yesterday, Dad called to tell me they cancelled the one for today and are getting him in to see Dr. B on Thursday.  So no update yet, stay tuned on Thursday!

Also, count me in on the 10 minute-a-day challenge in Jan.

So far I've seen the following in on the challenge:

  • Me
  • Chris
  • Matt
  • Melanie
  • TJ
  • Kirsten
  • Ann-Marie
  • Ben?
  • Janyne?
  • Salty?
  • Anybody else?

Once Jan. 1 rolls around and we start the challenge, how does it work (aside from the obvious 10 min. and logging)?

Mel, I hope your dad's appointment goes as well as possible on Thursday!

Yanti, what the heck can anyone say... you're Yanti and it just wouldn't be the same if there wasn't a whole lot of adventure with everything you do!

This whole house crud is almost killing me, but whatever doesn't kill you, or something??

I'm definitely IN for the January challenge, BRING IT ON!

I think in the past it has been a 3/mile or 30 minute minimum but regardless... I think we logged in our activity and someone volunteered to keep track of it all then Janyne included it in the weekly update.

I didn't actually sign in for this, just helping so it runs well for those who do as it is a good idea. I tend to go the other way, needing to slow down or stop at times as getting up to do something is rather instinctive.

Twice a day?

That's doable.  Bricks?  Tougher.

Ahem...

Mel, sorry to hear about the appointment.  That can be discouraging, especially when you're hoping to at least get some more information and get pushed off unexpectedly.  I hope Thursday goes well!

Yanti, what can I say.  You lead a charmed (if not so charmed on the bike) life and experience more than many of us are able to jam in to our lives - good stuff!  On the flip side of that, I'm really sorry for you that you got taken out like that (at all, really, but worse when it's an external thing) and mostly that you have some recovery to deal with.  Bummer, but I know you'll be up and buzzing about in short order!

As for the challenge, I'm going to try for 30' (or a min of 3 mile run).  I'm not suggesting that as a goal for anyone else - just what I want to do.

Matt

I'm the same way, usually (and have to force myself to back off - when I can - when I get that pre-injury premonition) - even if the past few months have been less than ideal from a consistency standpoint.  So, I'm going to take this challenge to use the 30' even on my complete off/rest days to foam roll, stretch, etc., as I don't always pay enough attention to that side of the exercise equation.

That's why the "any activity" caught my eye in particular (all joking about that aside).

Im in too.

Mel - thinking of you and your Dad and sending prayers for some good news at the appointment on Thursday.

Kristen - so sorry to hear about your coworker, praying that there will be some good results for her too.

Yanti - is the really bad chaffing the bit on your back? It was very nasty and blistered on Sunday night, not pretty at all. Did the bit around your neck turn into anything? Kingsley's feet don't surprise me, I bet he's glad now that he didn't just pop them with the nail clippers.

Alright, I'm making the list and will check everybody's logs every week, then will notify Janyne for posting.

As for rules, here are my suggestions:

  1. The challenge starts on 1/1/2015.
  2. Logs will be checked on Thursday nights after 6 p.m. MST, with results posted on Fridays. The first report will be on 1/2/2015.
  3. Results will be reported in the form of "met goal" or "didn't meet goal", not in total time, total distance, or type of activity.  It' not a competition for who did how much of what or for how long.
  4. Goals can be either 10 min./day or something specific like Matt's (30 min. stretching, etc.) or Chris's (5 run days, 2 yoga days).  If you want a specific goal, please post it in the forum or send Mary a PM if you don't want it made public.
  5. Logs will be checked on Thursday nights after 6 p.m. Mountain Standard Time.
  6. If you're sick, note "sick" in your log and the missed/reduced workout won't be counted against you.
  7. If you're injured, note "injured" in your log and it will be considered the same as a sick day.
  8. If you do 2 workouts in one day, each of which satisfies your goal, you get double credit and can use it to take a day off sometime within the same Friday-Thursday week.  Extra workouts don't carry over to the following week.

I waffled on #7.  Another option is that there's no extra credit for extra workouts and you have to do something every day to get credit, regardless of whether you double up.

And.....discuss.

Good thought.  DH had another idea: if you double up, you can only get credit for one adjacent day.  That way, you can't do a 60 min. workout and have the next 5 days off.  I also thought that maybe reporting could be in terms of days met out of 7 (e.g., 5/7 or 7/7) instead of just did or didn't meet goal.

(once we get the rules hashed out, I'll post a recap so y'all don't have to keep track of all the permutations whilst they're being negotiated)

Personally I think no credit for double workouts and reporting as 5/7 or 7/7 works for me.

You would not believe all the heavy hefting and shyte she had to put up with over race weekend! (Heck she had to carry Kingsley) She carried all our transition bags from the hotel to race site for transition check-in! (See attached)

Yeah it was the chafe stuff on my back. It got -- er, with pus -- by the time I got to ED and between that and the deep elbow wound I got put on antibiotics. Just as well since yes, my neck has worsened and gotten gross by now too despite gentle cleaning and papaya cream (every Aussie girl's cure-all for everything and it does usually work!)

Thanks for coordinating this!

Regarding #6 - I agree, if you are sick, you are sick.

#7, however, I may disagree with.  I've spent a ton of time doing PT, rolling, stretching, walking, etc.  I think that with most injuries, you can find 10 minutes of stuff to do.  (ice and stretch, stretch and roll, walk the dog, savasana...)

#8 I have mixed feelings about double credit (think active recovery) but I could be convinced that double credit is a good thing.

Oh, I think that double credit should only be for two separate activities.  Morning run + evening run = double workout.  Brick = double workout.  Run + yoga = double workout.

I agree, reporting should be by days met so a perfect score would be 31.
