Master 1779 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Kathy-I had the crud before I came up there. Went to another dr. He told me to get out and exercise! Woo Hoo! New meds that will hopefully knock this out. Actually being sick this week hasn't been that bad after all. Nice forced break before my IM training starts on July 1st.

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Is this new...read the bottom of this from IM FL website? CourseSwim: 2.4 milesThe swim portion of Ironman Florida begins on the beach behind the Boardwalk Beach Resort, in the Gulf of Mexico. The course is a 2.4-mile two-loop swim. The first loop is rectangular in nature, with athletes actually exiting the water, and doing a turnaround on the beach. Upon re-entrance, athletes take a diagonal (see swim map) angle before reconnecting with the original portion of the swim course, continuing along the second loop until exiting the water at the completion of the swim. After exiting the water, athletes will run up the beach, running up the entrance steps to the Boardwalk, before continuing on to the transistion area. |

Regular 72 Baltimore, MD | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Seems like the the same course as last year. Maybe the disclaimer is new. Im not holding my breath. I feel like these tropical storms and probably hurricanes are going to change it up down there. Only time will tell. On a good note: I got 2nd in my age group at a Sprint Tri here in MD today! Certainly helps break up the training a bit. |

Champion 8766 Evergreen, Colorado | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Well, June wasn't my best month. Things got a bit out of control in the desert and I spent the whole month feeling quite run down and behind on life. I think I'm almost caught up now....
But my volume definitely suffered. |

My training wasn't great in june. The first week I was out of town for work and sick. The last week I was working crazy hours (finished the week off at well over 50 hours) and was tapering for my half IM (that was last sunday. now I'm easy back into training after the race. Heading off to sweden today for vacation. I will run and swim, but won't get any good bike training in until I get back. I will try to see if we can rent bicycles in stockholm. Also, my swim numbers will be dropping. My coach has dropped one of my swim workouts to give me a full day off on Monday. "Because you know, and I know, you don't need to work on your swim" (quote from my coach ). My swim training is on track for 65-70 minutes unless there are crazy waves on race day he doesn't see the point in spending an extra hour in the pool each week to maybe shave a couple of minutes off my swim time. Hope Catwoman and KathyG heal up quickly and can start training again soon!!! |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread My june was completely pathetic. On the swim side pool closures due to pump issues, and storms.....not much I can do about that, Injuries on the run side although as pathetic as my numbers are the best so far this year. Biking well my life has been gettingint he way of that and everything else. Lets just say I have a lot on my plate right now. Hoping for a better July. |

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Socks will be back with a vengeance! This month was an improvement over last month where I lost a lot of water time due to the tatt. Still not back to usual volume levels but ok. Take away the race this month and I would have had much better volume but the race was just what I needed to get my mojo back (won Clydes in Philly oly by 10 mins). I've got to get back to stretching more regularly. Strength training is losing its grip again too.

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Yeah Jashac. We are all competing with ourselves. Good job with beating 2009 already! Wishing you well with your foot thing. That killed my March-April run numbers. Funnily enough, right before I injured my foot, I said something about how glad I was that I never had a foot injury. Man these things take forever to heal up. I only recently felt functional after close to 4 months of easy foot rehab stuff. |

I'm happy with where my bike and swim are currently at and I'm looking forward to continuing the run mileage increase that I just started on this past week and a half. Bring on July! |

My numbers are also down this month. I've missed workouts this month from traveling, tapering and bronchitis. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread May I was diagnosed with Lymes, recovered slowly from a 70.3, did something to my knee and June 1st I had my knee scoped. Needless to say both months are not normal given illness and injury. I did run 5x60" yesterday and did 5' zone 3 intervals on the bike and thus far my knee is handling it okay. I've done a lot of ows this month and have figured out how to deal with water running. I'm hoping July will be a bit better and I'll be fully recovered so I'll be back to normal training in August.

Elite 3495 SE | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Solid Advice 1. Hills. You can never do too many hills on the bike or the run 2. Don't be afraid of riding long, hard and fast on the bike in training. 3. Make almost all runs build runs( negative split) 4. Race more and race shorter - everything down to a 5K running race should be on the program and helpful 6. Take a year-round approach to training. There really should not be a significant off-season. If you love doing it, it should be something you want to do year-round. 7. Do single sport focus blocks for weeks/months where you focus almost completely on that one sport. 8. Learn to eat/hydrate well on the fly. This really is the fourth event in 1/2 and full IM racing. 9. Find a good group to train with. Ideally people that are better than you that will push you. 10. Don't over think it. Steve Fleck on slowtwitch.com |
