OK, so fess up!  Anyone else stalking the IMWI website waiting for the Athlete's Guide to post??

I am a triathlete, therefore I obsess.

Well up until now I wasn't, but thanks for giving me one more thing to clog my head with anxiety!

Couple reasons to reply: 1. Gets me my 100th post 2. Expend some nervous energy 3. Acknowledge that I too am waiting for the Guide and bib number assignment. Hope all is well with everyone.

I so remember this part of training. One thing that I did forget though... The hyperawareness of any little twinge or cramp or pain in my body. All part of the deal I guess. Day 2 of my taper... 3500 yds in the pool and a nice 45 minute run

Yep....it's officially taper-time. Just finished my final long run of 2.5 hrs this evening. MAN IT FEELS GOOD TO GET THAT DONE!!! Good luck to you all the next few weeks. Now I need to remember to limit calories to match my reduced training.

So in the famous words of AC/DC: "For those about to rock... we salute you"

This is my first IM. Is it worthwhile to drag the spouse to the welcoming banquet or would it be better to find a nice dinner somewhere else? I know the cost of the meal is part of the IM registration for the participants.

If it is your first IM it is worth it for sure for you to go. Not a bad idea to go for participants no matter how many they have done. Although after the first few you hit the point of diminishing returns. If you have not bought a ticket for your spouse in advance it may be tough to get one. In the past they have made people wait until everyone is in the room before selling extra tickets. My wife was pretty bored the year she went because it really did not apply to her so she has opted out of going.

Where do you buy an extra ticket?  I don't recall being given the option or seeing a booth etc. during registration.

Assuming that there are tickets left for sale, I think you can get them on the www.ironmanwisconsin.com website... Link to Active.com and associated fees

Same here.  Lower volume this week, a big weekend, and then no more big days until the big day.  Excited.

I still have a long run (2.5 hours) and a longish bike this weekend, although it's flat, rather than hills, so that will make it seem easier! Then it's tapertown 100%, baby!

Taper started this week according to my coach while we rode 85 miles at 70%.  Ran 2 hours Monday, swam and biked hard last night.  Run hills today.

Tired and hungry.

Question...as I wait for the athlete's guide;

Is there or is there not an official walk through of the transition area with someone from IM explaining what happens when?

And as much as I hate to ask, does someone have the official, no guess work involved, absolute cutoff times along the way?

Hey everyone, I need some recommendations.  This is my last bigger week, and have longer workouts for the weekend.  My problem is...I am doing the Chicago Tri on Sunday (Oly distance).  Will that be enough for a "long" workout, and what do I do on Saturday?

Also, is anyone else having the problem of thinking they need to be doing more right now.  The thought has been lingering that I'm not doing enough.

Yes, this is my first IM

Thanks in advance,

Dan

That thought comes to this newcomer once in a while, especially when I read about people losing toenails and struggling and having all kinds of trouble. I was doing 22 hours a week at the peak.  If that's not enough, screw this.   I'm goingback to half IMs next year anyway...my wife will kill me if I dont...

No "walk through" of transition areas, but you will be able to get a feel for the layout as you drop off your transition bags. Also during the race, there are so many volunteers pointing and directing - it will be very obvious where you are supposed to go.

Cut off times should be the same as last year, in last year's athlete guide.

Swim Cut-Off: Officially closes at 9:20 a.m. Two hours
and twenty minutes after swim start
Bike Cut-Off: Officially closes at 5:30 p.m. Any athlete still on the bike after this time will be disqualified
and removed from the race.
Run Cut-off: Officially closes at 12:00 a.m. Any athlete still on the run after this time will be considered
DNF.

Many thanks.  Are there mid-course cutoffs too?  I heard that here on this page but can't confirm that.  Never heard of them before.

Where is the best place for spectators to be during the bike? Other than Verona. I was thinking Old Sauk or Timber Ln.

There are. There is some sort of a cut off @ mile 19. One of my friends got pulled at mile 19 of the run last year. I don't recall the time, though... maybe 1030? I can do a little research and find out.

EDITED TO ADD: There is a 10:30 cut off. It's either mile 19 or 20 of the run.

Fred Doucette - 2011-08-24 10:04 AM Last big weekend push for me. I have a big bike on sat and then a 17 mile run sun. After that I'm sincerely hoping for a taper as my body is fatigued and so is my mind. I'm getting up to Madison late on Thursday before the race and really can't wait!!

About the same here.  A long ride on Saturday ( actually riding from Wrigley Field to Miller Park to watch Cubs play the Brewers ).  Then last long run on Sunday.

After that, taper and 'sharpening' of the blunt edge of all the volume.  Laughing

I'm fairly certain there is also a time you have to pass through bike special needs (or start the 2nd loop). I saw someone last year as I was heading back onto the "stick" get stopped as she was just trying to start her 2nd loop.

There is also a run cut off to start the 2nd loop but I don't know what that is; wish they would put those in the athlete guide, eh.
