Oops... I forgot to mention, tomorrow I am doing my Virtual 5k Obstacle Racing Challenge...Multiple 'obstacles' and running, adding up to a 5k in distance. I will do this at the park near my house tomorrow (Saturday) night. If I can get Clint to go, maybe I'll let him play "Race Photographer" while I struggle!

Belly is doing much better--just water, some Sprite, and crackers, but it is now giving me more constant hunger signals and I am feeling MUCH better (I will spare you all the other detail of how much better I am--trust me it is 'solidly' good), so I am betting I will be A-ok as of tomorrow

GO RACING MANATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSS! Cool

I think I caught up. I'm alive random stranger runner turned out to be piglet Mike. Lovely. He was happy to run at my pace we didnt walk I was slower than yesterday but faster than usual with average pace of 6.58kms. It was nice to talk and run. We will do it again he needs recovery runs and I help him go slower he's been running for a year and is doing a 50km in may. High flying business guy gave it all up last year with a major health scare turned vegan and turned ultra. Wow. Then I took Scooby to puppy school much better. As we were walking to class on the field the previous class were coming out Scooby most excited to see the other puppies and just likes to say hi. One guy with a little dog says to me sarcastically "thanks for that I was trying to avoid your dog" my response was equally sarcastic "well you could be ruder and good luck with that avoiding dogs at dog school"

Had the pleasure of meeting Brie and her husband last night!!!!!! I encourage you all to get to Boston and meet them immediately. They are awesome. Plus, as far as I know, Boston is still standing. See! You can trust us!

I went to the expo yesterday to pick up all of my stuff. My brother got all teary eyed. I guess it never occurred to me that this means something to anyone else but myself. I am SO lucky to have such an amazing group of people who support me and you are all included. Thank you all. I don't say it enough.

So if you want to get on the road to KQing on the cheap (for now) ... two things.

1) Join SBR Utopia. Be up front about your goal and why you're joining the group. Those are the folks, if anybody on BT, who can get you there. They're also blunt.

2) Read EVERYTHING on Slowtwitch. Sure, skim the jackazzery. But read EVERYTHING on there, and if there's anything you don't understand, read more, Google, follow all links until you do, or ask.

In other words, if you can't pay for the best available resources, then use the best available free resources there are. And there they are. Find the folks who did what you want to do, find out what they did and have in common, and do that.

Skrat, listen to MerYanti. She is wise in the ways of the force.

I have two things to add:

  1. Be consistent. Being a good athlete is easy, if it is your genes. Being a disciplined, consistent, well trained athlete is a bigger challenge.
  2. Train your mind. The really good ones have a strong mind. I have had the opportunity to talk with, train with, and race with (although their race and mine are not nearly the same) a few people that I really admire as athletes. People that hold records in RAAM, people that train others to race tri's for a living. There is a strength and focus in their brains that is unequaled by the "regular" athlete.

Of course, I always suggest that you have a good time as well, but that is just me

Thank you Adrienne. We are all living vicariously through you right now and it is awesome to be a tiny little part. I so appreciate all the advice, depth of person, and kindness you have shown. It is neat how little we know about the affect we have on others. Life is a lake and we are pebbles that are thrown into it. You never know who your ripples will touch, but rest assured that those ripples do touch others.

YOU ROCK!!!!! Tear it up, Salty!

And the great news about the two above points is that you can work on them together. Of course mental toughness is multi-dimensional, but the mental strength it takes to get out there every day (while working on your consistency) is significant.

I'm a little disappointed that I didn't hear any news reports about strange occurrences in Boston - you must be serious about this whole race thing!

Having people that support you in life is an amazing blessing and is something that I take for granted too often.  Thanks for the reminder.

Brie and DH - I would like to book an appointment in The Boston Manatee Hotel please.

Salty, your experiences are inspiring and fun to read.  I can't wait for my text updates on the race!

Awesome you have family and friends who care.  I know for me, it meant the world when I hit the finish line last year and my Mom and Son were there.

Will someone please explain "14 hands <arie"... I must have missed that post.

All I can think about is a wine reference?  (14 hands is a fairly popular wine here).

Manatee in a race car!!!!

So djoo get my text??? REALLY comforting, huh?

it was a very delicate and loving HTFU. Thank you love, just what I needed.

1st good laugh I've had all day. It's been a rough one. You're my delicate and loving buttercup. {MELON PRESS}
