Just did my first 100 mile bike ride and feel pretty confident about the bike portion now. Nutrition worked well and fee great after a few minutes off the bike.

But are you healthy?  That's more than a lot of people can say.

Bib # 1406.  Got a couple of tough weeks coming up with 16, 18 on run and a few 85+ on bike.  Just came off Augusta where I felt like I nailed at least swim / bike / and nutrition (for me anyway).  PR'd that distance by 40 minutes over last HIM (still slow).  Run still not where I want it.  Mentally, I think I'm in the right zone up until the run.  Confidence is getting to the right point.  Then we'll just get through it.

Heard the horrible stories about having crash / illness couple weeks from the event.  Currently have three around me with bad upper respiratory infections.  Trying not to breath and stay slathered in hand sanitizer.

I've been having trouble the last couple months with rear spokes popping on my wheel.  Four down and it looks like the nipples are corroded from being "inside" the faring (real design 60's).  Was told it was due to humidity in my area.  Just rented some wheels from RaceDay to take that out of the equation.  Can't take chances on race day.

Tough day today. Still in recovery (body wise not schedule) and had a 100 mile ride on tap.  Well 9 miles into the ride I had a flat, no problem, at least it didn't happen in Augusta.  Fixed the flat and went to put it on the bike then BANG, tire blew.  Even blew the tire off the rim.  Borrowed a tube then came back to the car.  Drove home, put my new tires on, that I was saving for IMFL, then headed back out. I was actually going to change them tomorrow but didn't want to risk it before a long ride.

Long story short I ended up getting in my 104 miles but it took 5:45 min.  It was a real mental challenge to finish but probably just what I needed.  Out there by myself, not really wanting to ride, windy, blah, blah, blah.  If I can get through today, I know I can though the 112 in 5 short weeks!

So sometimes the bad days are actually good days in disguise   I wouldn't have picked today but I needed that mental challenge.

enjoy,

Duane

wow, i needed to hear that....i had a 100 miler planned today set for 5AM start....long story short I got called in for a last minute volunteer deal (which is always really cool) because my friend couldn't get off of work, once i knocked that out my mom was at the house and wanted to visit etc etc we had some tree branch bending wind action going on down here and my brain kept telling me just swap todays ride out with tomorrows workout.....anyway I ended up riding the 100 leaving outta here at 11:30AM (i hate heading out that late on the weekend) and hadn't eaten anything since last night and the wind sucked bad and it took me wayyyyyy longer than you my friend, but you know what? my longest ride prior to this one had been 90 and my nutrition worked out really well for the 1st time on a ride that was longer than 56 miles so yeah maybe it was good after all

you guys are awesome..man and with wind and all,,i need to read both of your comments to give me a little and a lot of reality...i road my 101 on the trainer...I think i lost my mind around 70 something.  I've had to do all my rides this way due to time restraints with working a 2nd shift.  I am sure the power I have obtained on the trainer will translate me well to the road again soon,,ah  , yea,,give me some of that wind.. I used to live in NW Ohio and thats all we had up there..

Chris Dill - #1164.  Can't wait!  Other than the swim, I don't know if I am undertrained, but know for a fact that I am not overtrained and for the first time ever, I actually am injury free!

I so needed to hear that!!!!! My 18 miler this past week was really bad and REALLY slow, felt down about the whole day till I read this today. The postitive about the whole thing is that I did push through all the GI trouble and finished the 18 miles!!!

How was your September everyone?

I had some solid bike training. After slacking on swimming much of the summer, I ramped up my swimming pretty quickly and developed shoulder pain which ortho says is an impingement...best choice is to take off 6 weeks what's bothering it, instead choose to get steroid shot. Pain decreased a lot over few days. Did 10' swim yesterday and shoulder is sore today. Now it will be balancing swim training and keeping shoulder okay.

My run volume is really walking. I have done a few 30" runs this week and knee handled it okay. I had symvisc injection in my knee this week and it seems to have helped. Yesterday I walked 8 miles.

My goals are vastly different than in the past. Get to starting line able to participate and have fun November 5th.

September's totals:
Bike:41h 34m 16s  - 681.23 Mi
Run:7h 54m 03s  - 26.15 Mi

Tough month for training.  Between some business travel, a sprint then the following week a 70.3 I ended up with a few days off for travel and recovery. Made up for it already this month   Managed a couple of 100+ mile rides though.

Not too shabby as I was away 2 weekend in sept.  Getting my swim mojo back and have a clean place to swim that doesn't make me sick.  Running is finally getting there although still undertrained.   Took a bunch of skin off my foot unfortunatley yesterday but managed to get my century done today despite the blister carnage (pics in my album

I decided to focus on super hilly rides so pretty low mileage on the bike this month (I ride based on time).  Run was decent and eventually I'll get my act together with regard to the swim.

Your biking is super solid.  I know the plan is to walk the marathon but I think you're going to come off the bike feeling really good and be able to have a solid marathon (even walking it).

I'm fairly happy with where I am.  Had a good couple of races in September with Nation's Tri for pure speed and ChesapeakeMan Aquavelo for the confidence of actually doing the 2.4miles swim and 112 bike.  This month, probably like everyone else, I've got a couple of big weeks including two more 5hr/1hr bricks and then it is the gradual three week taper.

Hope everyone is staying healthy !

Adrian
