Fred D - 2012-04-29 6:11 PM OK, off to BBQ some well-earned burgers for the family. Anyone have any burning questions they want discussed?
Actually in my line of work, 'burning questions' are rarely about good things, but I digress.

Sunday night Martini, Fred?

I've got one: in the IM group I am currently participating in, there is a little discussion about the most advantageous location of your iPad during lactate threshold intervals on the trainer. OK, I am kinda making that up, but just barely. This is of course the classic definition of the current First World Problem meme. For example, my wife and I have been traveling and training so much lately neither of us have been able to do the grocery shopping. So this morning I actually had to eat a 3 month old package of Toast Chee crackers before my recovery ride. But hey, at least they are made by Lance, so they have to be good for us cyclists.... Classic First World Problem.

So, what FWP's are most pressing to YOU as a triathlete?

Good morning all!

I love the FWP discussion.  So many to think of ...

I am super happy to report that I ran with my little sister yesterday in her first half marathon. She did just great - she was in great spirits to around 17k and then started to really flag.  I could see she was slowing down but she was a trooper she didn't stop, she didn't complain and even when i was little mean to her in the last kilometre she just kept going!

The good news is that i ran at a crazy comfortable pace and feel pretty much fine today. That's the joy of being fit, right? My heel is a little stiff today but nothing unmanageable.

What a great sister! Way to work your little sis through the tough part - we all need that kind of "encouragement" every now and a gain. Glad to hear the heel held up; and yes, fitness is a wonderful thing...

60 miles Saturday, 16 miles and a 1 mile run pain free yesterday.

i was exceptionally tired this morning, slept in.

pool and 2 mile run tonight, new shoes and inserts feel good, different but good.

I skipped the Du yesterday, they changed the course to 7, 2 mile loops on the bike, i did not want to risk the dangerous ride and hurt the calf again, so i bailed.

208 on the scale, making progress

Wow - 7x2 mile loops??? That sounds like more like a crit sandwiched in between two runs than a duathlon. I say you made the smart call on pulling the plug. Have you heard how it went off?

Short easy run this morning.  Nothing to write home about.  No biking at all this week as I drove my bike right to the bike shop post race this weekend and I'll pick it up Friday when I head back to Tucson.  I did bring up my mountain bike but no shoes.  lol  I have been wanting new mountain bike shoes, maybe now I have an excuse.  I think I even have spare cleats in my bike bag.

Looks like I have a ton of options for running out here, including a trail run just a mile or so away.  And I think I found what will be my normal bike ride, although there is no shoulder so probably a week day only ride (population really increases here on the weekend).  I have to search out a nice long ride area still but I know they exist, and they will be hilly and hard.  Just the way I like them.

Weight back to 129.  I have been fluctuating quite a bit, so the goal is to stop that and just go down.  I tried that whole exercising before eating thing this morning.  I haven't gotten into trying that yet, even on my short easy workouts.  I believe in the concept just didn't want to try anything new and it is hard to get out of the habit.  Since my life just totally changed with new locations etc etc no time like the present to give it a try.

Wow, I wrote a book there...

That doesn't even sound fun.  Maybe if they made it draft legal.  I think you made a good call on bailing.

a crit with 160 odd racers all going different paces with no drafting, lol.  recipe for disaster in my opinion.   you could be talking speed differences of 15mph between riders.  It would be one thing if there were waves, but a mass start running race is only going to spread the field out by a max of 6-7 mins, that means there are 160 people on a 2 mile loop for half the race.  If i wanted to play dodge the cyclists i woulda went.

i have not heard how it went, i have a feeler out to a couple people that were supposed to race, all the guys i know that were going to do it also bailed because of the change.

I hear someone is giving autographs...... HAHAHHAHA

it is unbelievable what some people have been posting lately.  arrogance??  are you freking kidding me??

Kim - awesome to meet you this weekend!! The race report is posted!

Fred - I'd love your autograph. I'm going to start giving some out after I smoke my field on the swim at a local tri

Rudy - seven 2 mile loops? That's insanity. It sounds disastrous!

Had a good and not so good weekend:

The good - got in a 14km run with my 7 year old son yesterday.  Of course with him pedaling his bike and yelling at me to keep up.  I got my own back telling him to keep up as the last km was into the wind and it was a little tougher on him.  He's got a proper little Trek Discovery jersey that he wears whenever he rides, but he's never done that distance before.  It was a lot of fun having him out there.

The not so good - did an 80km ride on Saturday (km just sound so much longer than miles), and about 5km from home I dropped my chain climbing up a small hill and shifting into the 50 again.  Somehow the chain got jammed between the crank and the frame, and when I final got it loose it tore a piece off my frame.  I freaked.  Once I got home I realized that it was a small platic cover glued to the frame to protect it for exactly this reason, and now I have to figure out how to get it back on and stay on.

The other note from the ride was that I wasn't even close to hitting the target power numbers during the ride, so I wasn't in the best of moods when this all happened.  At least I'm over it now (as long as I can get that cover back on).
