Looks like the mat is working for Fred - 51:42 for Fred's first 10k - he keeps that up he is going to kill it!

Sneaking in here with the IM race going on. Finished the 10k swim. Total time was 2:59, and that included 5 surf entries and exits. Due to a slightly long course coupled with my tendency to swim to the left ( and thus out to sea) my total garmin distance was 6.85 miles. 10k split was 2:39. 2d AG, probably would have 1st if I could swim straight. I am REALLY glad that 2 hour training swims are done. Shoulders are on fire. Happy with the pace and effort. 1:28/100

Wow - that is an ironman of a swim, Chris - awesome job! Lots of long stuff going on today - that really is a heck of an accomplishment.

so it looks like they did pull that first mat from splits - it has disappeared fromthe tracker completely. Probably a good call by WTC to deal with the tech problem that way. I swear I did see Fred's 10k there for a while though.

I read on ST that the first timing mat on the run isn't working. So don't be alarmed if we don't see splits there and on second loop when we expect them.

Fred, start the run slow

Come on Jen!

Strongly thinking about doing the MyAthlete Live thing.  That would drive my wife nuts...

yeah - that second mat is definitely not working - Fred should have crossed it a while ago if my math is right. If everything is OK he should have less than an hour to go to the finish.

I have used the myathlete service 3 times and I has been great, even worked pretty well in Lake Placid where cell service on the course is pretty spotty. In LP the only real complaint was that the cellular network did no have the capacity to handle all the people surfing the web during the race. That was not a problem of MyAthletive - just a problem of the local cell service being overwhelmed. Folks at home were able to get. Instant updates and then text message them to our spectators in LP.

Anyone watching finish....Fred finished!!!

Such a gentlemen letting other guy go in front of him. My guess is family was on the right side of chute as we watch athletes come in as he stopped there.

I just turned on video feed and he finished within 3 minutes

FANTASTIC! The dude had to run pretty much dead-even splits the whole way! Now that is the way to race an IM Fred - congratulations!

The tracker is back up - Fred went 10:45:46 - that is crazy fast no matter how you slice it.

Jen is through the first half of the marathon with a 2:18:07 run - that is solid!

Arend and Jen just have a little training-day run to finish - they gotta have it in the bag.

Those folks coming across the finish line to beat 11 hours are great - I loved the guy who couldn't stop pointing at the clock.

And Mike Reilly's French is hysterical.

Hey no problem on the updates - I woke up in the middle of the night with my back in full-on lock-down mode due to spasms. I couldn't even get out of bed. Never experienced that before in my life, so I was worried about enough to be at Urgent Care when they opened. I got a steroid shot in the and am jacked up on anti-inflamatories and muscle relaxers. Not exactly the way my regular doc would have treated it, but at least I am somewhat mobile now. At least IMMT was going on - it is giving me something to do all day. And its raining, so I have that going for me as well...

450 competitors over the line already, which is a huge number. But MR just announced that the oldest competitor just missed the bike cutoff by 6 minutes - that stinks.

Just some quick math based on splits - If Arend is steady on the run for the second half, he should finish any time now. Jen is looking at 13:07ish. Hang in there you two!

Edited - Arend just got a split at the 32k mark - if it is correct he actually picked up the pace a bit, which if he held that for the final 10k he would be in already....? Come on, Tracker!

Way to go Fred - fantastic job, especially considering what you dealt with this year.

Rusty - hope the back feels better for you by tomorrow.

Congrats Fred.  Can't tell you how proud I am to be a member of this group.  Having followed your journey from last year going into Wisconsin, and everything this year...I think you've proved to yourself, your family, and certainly me...that you are a champion.

Hey guys, I'm back in my hotel room!  I think I finished around 11:47.  I was in a world of hurt the last 8k or so but I'm done!  Pretty happy with that swim split.

Awesome job Arend.  That swim split was unreal.  Great job of pacing the bike and run too.  I figure the last 8k should hurt...I mean...it's Ironman after all.

Congratulations Arend - what an awesome day! Absolutely killer swim - and yes, i will admit that I cannot wait to hear about that final 8k, especially if the tracker is anywhere close to accurate. That must have been some serious HTFU. But in the mean time, congratulations, Ironman!
