Not really the hamstring, but I don't think it's an IT band either. Feels like a sore muscle as it's the area that cramped up pretty bad after my ride on Saturday. Wanted to spin yesterday, but opted for full rest instead. Will likely hop on the bike and do some ridiculously easy miles on very flat terrain after work. I did manage to climb almost 42k feet over 8 days last week. The last ride on Saturday was the azz kicker as it was super hot and I was getting dangerously close to heat exhaustion. Needless to say the next few days will be focused on recovery, then hopefully a few short but hard rides, hopefully in good shape for Mauna Loa next Saturday. My leg started hurting just reading about climbing 42K in 8 days. Then I reminded myself you measure things with that funny imperial system and it didn't seem so bad... Well the guy that had the highest total for the challenge worldwide was at something like 67k of elevation gain...in meters. I looked at his rides, I think I would have shot myself. He was doing like 70 repeats of a 500 foot climb on the last day. Knee is feeling a lot better today. It was sore throughout yesterday so I didn't get to spin, but it feels about 80-90% right now. I saw some of the rides that guy was doing. Craziness! Turns out my 20k TT is Thursday and not today. They posted the wrong date on the FB page.. |

Elite 7783 PEI, Canada | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia ~~~~ Permanently OPEN!! Originally posted by Fred D Ok I posted on ST but not much response yet. If I focused in the off season on swimming, what would be the best bang for the buck. Online swim coach? Swim camp? I don't think I have any resources in town that are obvious. Thoughts? The suggestion of getting a good video of your swim is a good one. Something above and below water from lots of angles is perfect. What is your masters group like, are they good solid workouts? Are there people there to push you hard so that you finish a set and just hang off the end of the wall completely spent, unable to speak because your only focus is breathing? |

I think the swim video option is a great one as well if you don't have a local coach. There are a few good (based on some reviews) sites that let you submit video and they'll break it all down for you and tell you what to focus on, etc. The big thing is getting the angles they want, and ensuring you have repeatability each time you submit video to them. |

I did this a number of weeks ago and it's a serious PITA and I can't upload to BT anymore through my Garmin (or TP for that matter, but I add those ones manually). Anyone have suggestions? I use Garmin Express but I don't have a device that uses the ant agent. For TP, you can set it up to automatically push from GC to TP and BT is working on the same. Ron says it's almost ready. For now, you could do the automatic sync to TP and then you can do an import from TP to BT. Still a PITA until they get the sync to BT going too. Thanks for that - unfortunately, I think it's only for Premium members. Mmm, there is a comment in the post from Ray saying it works with the Free version. I can't find anything else that confirms that though.... Well shucks - it did work. I didn't think it was setup properly because the TP site never asked for my GC login information, so I'm stumped as to how that all happened (maybe because I was logged into GC when I did it). Either way, it synced my ride from last night right away which was great. Now, I really hope BT can do the same because I do like having my logs here so people can see what I've been up to when I ask training/volume questions. I read another link from Ray though that said Garmin were going to charge sites and apps $5K to be able to use the API, so I'm guessing this one is costing BT. |

This mere mortal can only dream - for Pro cyclists it goes to show what a lifetime on a bike can do for you. Still hard to believe a guy like Rogers just managed his first stage win after a decade of riding the TDF. |

Subject: RE: SBR Utopia ~~~~ Permanently OPEN!! Originally posted by marcag Crazy numbers http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/news/articles/2014/07/tour-de-fran... Yup...actually, a better comparison is the one day classics. I've seen power files where guys that don't even finish in the lead pack are throwing down 340w AP for 3.5 hours of a 6.5 hour race. |

Does anyone know how much Rogers weighs? 73kg / 160lbs according to the Tinkoff-Saxo team page. |

Another banner day in TT... Either this or the GoPro would be a great start. Will your pool let you take video while you swim? Mine won't - although if I explained why and did it first thing when they open up they probably would. |

Subject: RE: SBR Utopia ~~~~ Permanently OPEN!! Soooo, without getting into too much detail, I've been out of training since the SOS trial run Sunday, and likely 2-4 more days. Won't get too graphic but we have so many docs here, I am sure they understand, urgent care, staph and a scalpel. Have to stay out of the water for a bit as a result, and the location makes riding or running... inconvenient. Will have to miss the first race of '14, our local 2 mile pier to pier swim Sunday. That's always a good shirt to wear. Hopefully will be good to go in 10 days in Milwaukee. Not ideal the week before nationals, but hey I was never going to worlds anyway.... Going to play by ear and see how it goes. Edited by ChrisM 2014-07-30 11:06 PM |

Master 5557 , California | Subject: RE: SBR Utopia ~~~~ Permanently OPEN!! I was getting down on myself a bit about the Whistler race. I knew the run was a long shot, but I was mostly disappointed by the bike. I hit my target power numbers almost perfectly but on that day it was still too high. Well, I went back through some old log entries and found a pic I had posted to myself from golden cheetah. It's a chart of power for rides before and after my PE:
I think I'm around 215 FTP at the moment, so it's coming back. Slowly. I'm hoping to get back around 250 this offseason. Edited by spudone 2014-07-31 1:46 AM |

Shane suggested a Go Pro camera under water from someone else to get views. Another banner day in TT... Hehe. The way some things just fly by people can be entertaining. I've improved kicking, core and body position noticeably from awhile ago. Swimming ability has not improved (just thinking freestyle here). I've had several points where I was faster than now, at least consistently training faster. None of these things have mattered if they I haven't tied them to front end improvement, namely around the catch. Sheila T's explanation of the Pareto Principle seems so very true, and so very lost on some. |
