In no particular order:

Amazing Grace (with or without bagpipes)

A Mighty Fortress is Our God

Star Spangled Banner

Pachebel's Cannon in D (yeah, I know it's not a song)

Ghost - Indigo Girls

Time to Say Goodbye - Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli

I'll probably thing of some more as soon as I post this.

I'm also a fan of Amazing Grace, especially by bagpipes.....seems like in my family's Irish tradition, everyone has this played at their gravesite.

Danny Boy also makes me cry.

tmwelshy - 2005-12-15 1:49 PM I'm so depressed....

Maybe the lyrics to this hopeful song will give you a lift:

ALLELUIA
(Julia Fordham)

ALLELU
ALLEUIA
I MADE IT THROUGH
THE DAY WITHOUT YOU
JUST A DAY
ANOTHER DAY
BUT I'M ON MY WAY

    FOR A HUSHED SWEET MOMENT
    EVERYTHING MADE SENSE
    AND ALL MY MISPLACED JUDGEMENTS
    WERE AWASH WITH INNOCENCE
    FOR A HUSHED SWEET MOMENT
IT FELT LIKE TIME STOOD STILL
I ONLY KNOW I LOVE YOU
    AND THAT I ALWAYS WILL

BY THE SHORE
NEAR THE HARBOR
A DISTANT LIGHT
SHINES ON THE WATER
JUST A LIGHT
OH DISTANT LIGHT
GUIDE ME THROUGH THE NIGHT

    CHORUS

AN ALLELUIA CHORUS
RANG OUT ACROSS THE WAVES
I HAVE NOT GONE THE DISTANCE
BUT I AM ON MY WAY

Thanks Renee - I feel much better....

Going to bed....

With the lights gone dim

Love has left my soul

Silence my only friend

Shut out the world

With its pain and hurt

Wondering at the cost

Of this pointless dirt

Giving up my energy

To the falling leaves

Wondering at the weight of pain

Wondering how I ever breathed

Such sad songs

For this cold winter

Want to shut it all out

And find my lost center

Post some happy lyrics

Or some funny jokes

My head can't split any further

Still it tears and hurts

-ME

Joke or not...it's kinda thought provoking, and stupid as it may sound, I like the imagery even though it's a bit dark...sounds like alot of my poetry in HS before the close encounter with a sharp object. Wow, bad memories of being a teenager! Makes me really glad I found myself after that!

Just for you, Thomas:

Heartburn, by Rufus Wainwright (sung like a ballad)

Is this heartbreak or is this heartburn?
Have I been played or do I need a rolaid?
Gotta learn the difference 'tween I love ya
The difference 'tween I love ya and the symptoms of ebola

Is this heartbreak or is this heartburn?
Can I be spared from being so dramatic?
Gotta learn the difference 'tween I love ya
The difference 'tween I love ya and that derailed rollercoaster

Gonna rain down on my sunny Sunday shoes
Guess best I get some galoshes

Let me tell you that this song's useful
Yes this song's useful when you're really drunk
And you gotta learn the difference 'tween I love ya
The difference 'tween I love ya and whatever.

In all seriousness, Rod Stewart's "Forever Young" brings me to tears. It was played at the funeral of my nephew, who took his own life at age 14.

What a horrible thing to happen. I can't imagine the stress placed on a 14 year old to make him do such a thing. I'm sorry for your family's loss.

Tears for Fears - Mad World

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
And their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tommorow, no tommorow

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very

Mad world, mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very

Mad world, mad world

Disclaimer: There is no crying on BT.

tmwelshy,
I was fortunate enough to see JT play Fire and Rain live a few years ago. He played by himself, the band had gone offstage, and it was one of the most touching moments of my life so far.

RedCorvette,
Pachelbel's Canon is one of the songs that makes me smile the most. That will probably be my wedding song, when the day comes.

As for me, alot of classical music really gets to me. My favorites are Vivaldi's Four Seasons and Rachmaninov's Second - Adagio sostenuto. Of course, Bethoven's Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata get to me also.

My uncle's funeral was on the 4th of July a few years ago. He was a veteran and an all around great guy. They played Taps at the very end.
There wasn't a single dry eye in that jam-packed church.

Doesn't really make me cry, just makes me quiet.

Elsewhere - Sarah McLaughlan

I love the time
and inbetween
the calm inside me in the space
where I can breathe

I believe there is a distance
I have wandered to touch upon the years of
reaching out
and reaching in
holding out
holding in.

I believe
this is heaven
to no one else but me
and I'll defend it as long as
I can be
left here to linger
in silence
if I
choose to
would you
try to
understand.

I know this love
is passing time
passing through like liquid
I am drunk in my desire
but I love the way you smile at me
I love the way your hands reach out and
hold me near..

I believe..

I believe
this is heaven
to no one else but me
and I'll defend it as long as
I can be
left here to linger
in silence
if I
choose to
would you
try to
understand.

Oh the quiet child
awaits the day
when she can break free
the mold that clings like desperation.

Mother
can't you see I've got to
live my life the way I feel is
right for me
might not be right for you but it's
right for me..

I believe...

I believe
this is heaven
to no one else but me
and I'll defend it as long as
I can be
left here to linger
in silence
if I
choose to
would you
try to
understand it.

I would
like to
linger
here in
silence
if I
choose to
would you
try to
understand...

1.  You've got a friend.... by james taylor.   I did my first marathon with Team in Training running in honor of a good friend of mine who had been recently diagnosed with Lymphoma.  Since she was a big James Taylor fan, I bought her the Greatest Hits CD and gave it to her with a t-shirt and my bib from the Marathon.   She immediately went over and played the CD, this song first, came back and gave me a huge hug, then told me that I was her hero.  She died a year later.  Needless to say...this song gets me everytime I hear it.

2.  Taps.....Being in the military, I have been to too many funerals for friends.  This songs gives me chills everytime I hear it, just knowing that another military member has given their life for us.

I thought of another one on my drive home: has anyone heard Bobby McFerrin's version of Psalm 23? He dedicates it to his mother. I can no longer read or hear that psalm without thinking of my parents and hearing his crystal clear voice. It's another sob with love/joy kindofa song.
