Originally posted by powerman Well that was a big kick in junk. Holy crap. First night was a big hoot. And, the morphine drip wasn't that fun. We'll, it went great. It was benign. They got all of it out, and they only had to cut two vertebrae. Right now I have some serious deficits from surgery. My left leg is numb. But that will get better. Hopefully it won't take long. Thank you very much for all the prayers and good wishes along the way.

I don't know how I missed all those updates along the way but I'm happy to read they got it out and it was benign! Now on to healing. What is the prognosis after removing the vertebrae?

They just remove the little knoby part. Laminea. The thoracic spine is much more stable than the lumbar, so there should not be any problems at all. Hopefully I get discharged today. I have a plane ticket after all

So I got home last night around 2:30 am. It was a really long day. All I was dreaming of was laying in my new memory foam mattress... No relief there. It is what it I guess. I'll just happy when I can go without a device.. This has been much much bigger than I had hoped. Now I just need to watch some motivational video.

Being home is often the best therapy.  I think you'll notice big improvements.

Wishing you all the best, and glad the news was good.

Get lots of rest, don't do too much too soon.

So... this thread I think has served it's purpose.

I went to my doc today. It's been a week and a day since surgery. Stitches are out. My doc says I'm doing great. There is no telling when the numbness in my lower body will go away, but there has not been one doctor that does not expect a full recovery from that. They said they get concerned when motor function and body positioning is deficient... sensations not so much. And they cut 4 vertebrae, not two. Misunderstanding, but who cares... it's done.

Doc says, get up, start walking, protein does a body good. I'm still on pain meds, but the worst is behind me. Sorry no good pics, just stitches. I wanted one of the tumor.. but no dice.Smile

To each and everyone that took the time to reply, I sincerely thank you. It really did help in the bad times to focus on all my friends wishing me well. A couple of my friends had me in prayer chains by people I didn't even know. It's pretty cool to have people that take the time to care. And this whole thing has reminded me that asking for help is a good thing.

Thank you again.

... now it's time to put my big girl pants on and HTFU!

Damn fine question Josh. My Pike's Peak Accent is toast. I was still holding out hope I could do it late Aug... but I don't see it. And If I do really bad, I will nt make the cut off for next year and be out.

I'm going to sign up for my local Fall Series. I went to go sign up for A half in December I did two years ago, but registration is not open yet. There is a Xterra half that is going to be local end of September... that may be possible....

So glad to hear that the recovery is going well. Take your time with the recovery...do it right. Work hard, but not TOO hard. The races will be there when you're ready!

All the best,
ErinWo
