Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() bbarr66 - 2008-07-26 6:55 PM I have a stupid question, regarding the cut-off times. The webb site says you must finish the bike 4:30 after the last swim wave. I swim 1.2 miles in around 50min, I am going to assume 1:00hr for starters, which gives me 3:30 for the bike = 16 mph. I know there are waves and I really have more time since I'm not in the last wave. Am I looking at this correctly? Yes, you are reading it correctly. For instance, let's say that the last swim wave goes off at 8 am. That means that the last person that can continue on the run must be in T2 by 12:30. Make sense? |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Where are we meeting for the swim? At the house, or down at the race course? I think I remember Jorge saying 9:30am. Is that right? I'd like to firm up some plans, so rottie and I can work out our carpool plans. Also, for anyone spectating ... I know a couple of us are bringing bikes, for jumping around on the course. We'll probably do a short ride on Friday too. More of an exploratory ride though the area ... see the park, lakeshore, etc. None of that fast stuff. |

Coach ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I originally said 9:30am but aperently that's too early so what about 10-10:30am? I pefer the earliest possible so we can do the swim, also an easy 30-45 min ride, then register, check bikes in and then just have the rest of the day to relax and stay off our feet as much as possible (those racing). Also we can swim where ever, although if they have the swim course ready and let us swim in it, it will be better to do so there. Do you know where do we register; IOW at the race site or somewhere else? If that doesn't work for all then we'll just meet up later on. I know Dan and Robyn are in... Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() If I can get on the road by 7 am, I should be able to pull into the park or to the swim start if it is south this year around 10:00-10:30. I will only do a short swim though, not the whole course if that is where we end up swimming. 30 minute ride sounds good too. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Just so you know, registration doesn't start until 2:00pm, so if we do the swim at 10 or 10:30, we're going to have either wait around at the park, or drive to and from the race site a couple of times. Also, St. Joe is at least 2.5 hour drive from Ann Arbor, and although I don't mind leaving early, I don't want to have to wake up at 4am just to swim at 9 or 10 on the other side of MI.... In addition, I've agreed to meet with the landlord at 10am to get the keys to the BT house. If we schedule the swim at 11, we could just swim from the beach at the BT house, then hang out and only make 1 trip in to register. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh, I should add, our house is right on the bike course, so we'd be able to see what it's like after swimming. If we wanted to swim the course, we could just meet at noon, swim a bit, bike a bit, then pick up packets and register at 2.... |

We'll prob get there around 9:30-10am so we can meet you at the place. We can do the swim wherever I just thought it would be nice to do so at the race site because 1) it is the actual course and 2) an easier way for those not staying at the house to get to, meet/socialize for a bit, etc. just out of curiosity, do they offered a Friday AM swim at the race course last year? MI schedule is shifted due to being at the western edge of the time zone- it stays light out till 10pm, so what's the point of getting up early when the sun doesn't rise till 6:30 anyways? We can start a 3 hour ride at 7pm and still have daylight ![]() I don't know about last year, but I haven't found anything about an official swim for this year. Meeting at 11 at the park sounds good. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We will probably get there around 130-2. No swimmy for me... Is there a house code? How do we get into the house without any keys? |

![]() ![]() |
Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() there's not really an area to put a tent, at least I don't think so, i guess we could set one up on the beach. To answer your question...No. No banner. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Registration/Transition/Expo/Best place to meet up is at Jean Klock Park. (put this into Google: Jean Klock Park Benton Harbor, MI) There is a boardwalk there and you can't miss it. I will be a mere 3 min walk away, so I can meet up when Jorge calls me. I recommend us riding the run route. That way we can see the hill up to the top loop and the Whirlpool Complex. There is also a covered podium area that we can put our bike numbers on and stuff and be out of the sun after we register. Granted, we have until 9 pm, but that is just a hassle. In regards to the swim, there is not an "organized swim" by the RD. The buoy's will not be out, but it's an along the shore swim, so what we did last year was leave from the "finish" swim line and go against the current. Then turn around and head back in to see what the finish will be like visually. Remember the course will either go N or S depending on Current. For those that are bored, I can show you a couple of things that I learned last year after the S/B session. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Friday, August 1 Pre-race Info 11am - Swim: Meet on the West (beach-facing) side of the Gazebo on South End of Expo. This is where body-marking takes place. Noon - Short bike ride: Meet at the volunteer parking lot near the park entrance (gatehouse). This is the grassy lot just North of this year's transition area. This was the T-area in 2007. We'll then be "wheels-up" at 12:10 to ride the run-portion of the course. See the green dot on this map: Steelhead Transition Area 4:30pm - Dinner at Tosi's: I have "preferred seating" for a group of 14 under "Beginner Triathlete." They are not taking reservations due to the weekend event. This is the best italian food in town, and they have early dinner specials. They open for dinner at 4:30 and if we all get there at that time, we shouldn't have a problem. I will be there. 6:30pm - Dinner at Papa Vinos 1332 Hilltop Road St. Joseph, 269-983-9900: This is a confirmed reservation for 12 people under "Beginner Triathlete." PM me if you can make it to a dinner with number attending. I will confirm dinner lists on Thursday morning on the Iron-distance Forum. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Put me down for 2 at Tosi's at 4:30. I will be at the swim at 11, and depending on how hungry I am, I will ride half the run course. At my speed, it would take an hour to ride the run course and I don't want to ride that much the day before. Sounds like you got everything together. Should be enough time to pick up packets, rack the bikes and get to dinner at Tosi's! Thanks! |
